Chapter 90 Hanna’s Anomaly

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

After returning to the inn and enjoying Ms. Hanna’s cooking, Kazumi was making tea for us.

 ──Crash!

 ”Ms. Hanna?!”

Martina’s voice echoed as she helped with the dishes. I rushed to the kitchen and saw Ms. Hanna leaning against the sink, looking unsteady.

Martina was supporting her and talking to her.

 ”Are you… okay?”

 ”I’m… fine… just a little dizzy…”

”Let’s get you to bed. I’ll help you. Can you walk?”

Liz and I helped Ms. Hanna to the bedroom.

”Are you okay? Should we call Papa?”

Rena placed her hand on Ms. Hanna’s forehead to check for a fever.

”…You might have a slight fever. Just wait a moment.”

She stood up and used ‘Telepathy’ to contact Mr. Rudolf. Dorothy brought a basin of water and a towel to Kazumi.

Kazumi quickly soaked the towel, wrung it out, and placed it on Ms. Hanna’s forehead.

”It definitely seems like she has a fever. ──Ms. Hanna, you didn’t eat much for dinner, did you?”

 ”…I didn’t have much of an appetite… I’m sorry.”

 Ms. Hanna answered Kazumi slowly.

 ”…Maybe she’s just tired. A lot has happened in a short time…”

Liz said with a worried look.

”…I hope she didn’t catch some weird illness from the goblin nest.”

I thought Ms. Hanna looked a bit pale too.

For now, I left Ms. Hanna with Kazumi and the others and headed to the kitchen.

Martina was cleaning up a broken plate, so I helped her.

 ”Ms. Hanna, are you okay?”

”Yeah. They said I have a bit of a fever… I’m a little worried. But it seems Rena called Mr. Rudolf.”

I answered Martina to reassure her.

* * *

”…You’re fine, it’s not a strange illness. It’s probably just the 8th week.”

Mr. Rudolf smiled as he buttoned up Ms. Hanna’s shirt.

”Congratulations! There’s a baby in your belly. Since it’s early in the pregnancy, you should take it easy.”

 ”A baby…?”

Ms. Hanna looked complicated while smiling at Mr. Rudolf.

 ”…What should I do… without him… alone…”

Ms. Hanna closed her eyes and whispered softly.

”Thank you very much, Mr. Rudolf.”

Liz bowed her head, and Kazumi took out her wallet to pay for the visit.

”Kazumi, it’s okay. Can you bring her to the clinic tomorrow? I want to do a proper check-up.”

Mr. Rudolf stopped Kazumi from paying and gave her instructions. Liz and Kazumi nodded in agreement.

”Anyway, make sure she stays warm and gets some good rest tonight.”

With that, Mr. Rudolf left the room.

* * *

”It seems she was worried earlier, but now she’s asleep.”

Kazumi and Rena came out of the bedroom.

 ”Worried?”

I asked without thinking. This baby could be a keepsake of her late husband.

”…She’s still struggling to accept her late husband and Kai-chan (カイちゃん), so she’s not sure if she can welcome a new life.”

Rena sat down at the table with us.

”Plus, she’s not confident about giving birth and raising the baby alone…”

Kazumi said and then disappeared into the kitchen, saying, “I’ll make some tea.”

”I wonder if we can help her in any way…”

”But we’ve never given birth or raised a baby, so we don’t know how much we can really help Ms. Hanna.”

 Liz murmured, and Martina replied.

”…That’s true. Plus, we have our own mission to ‘clear the dungeon’… so we might end up leaving Ms. Hanna alone a lot.”

 Dorothy’s point was valid.

”…But this baby is a precious memory of her husband. I really want to help her have it…”

Kazumi returned with the tea on a tray.

”But… it’s up to Ms. Hanna to decide.”

They sat down at the table, and everyone was silent, only sipping their tea.

That night, they couldn’t leave Ms. Hanna alone, so they took turns going to the hot springs to relax. Liz, Dorothy, and Martina offered to sleep in Ms. Hanna’s room to keep an eye on her, so Hiroya, Kazumi, and Rena decided to sleep in the adjacent room, which they had decided to use as a bedroom.

”I wonder if Ms. Hanna will have an abortion…”

Kazumi, who had changed into her pajamas, sat on the bed looking worried.

”Rena hopes she decides to keep the baby…”

Rena, also in her pajamas, responded.

”We can’t really say much, but…” I said

 ””What?””

”Well, I think we can try to help ease Ms. Hanna’s burden.”

 ”Like what?”

”First, we can make sure she doesn’t have to worry about financial struggles. We know she doesn’t like taking money, but we also know that without it, her future life would be difficult. So, we’ll continue to give her a ‘salary’ to help her out.”

 The girls nodded in agreement.

”So, maybe we should just stop the whole employer-helper relationship and become a family instead.”

Hiroya suggested. Kazumi clapped her hands.

”Even though we’ve only been living together for two weeks, I can’t imagine life without Ms. Hanna. And when we’re not out on adventures during her pregnancy, we can do our best to take care of the housework to ease her burden.”

”That shouldn’t be a problem. We were doing it all ourselves before we started relying on Ms. Hanna.”

”The issue is whether Ms. Hanna will agree to this. She might see her presence as valuable because she takes care of us.”

Rena looked thoughtful, her arms crossed.

”We can try to convince her that it’s because we’re family now. We’ll make her understand, even if we have to push a little.”

 The girls nodded.

”Ms. Hanna is still young, so maybe she’ll find a good partner soon. I know she won’t forget about her husband and Kai, but until then, let’s all be the baby’s ‘papa.’ We’ll earn money, help Ms. Hanna, and maintain a safe and comfortable home for her.”

”Yes, it all depends on whether Ms. Hanna accepts us as family. I hope she does…”

”I wonder what it will be like being a papa to the baby… the baby will be so cute!”

Rena looked dreamy as she put her hands together.

”When we’re out on adventures, do you think someone should stay behind at the house?”

 Hiroya asked.

”I don’t think Ms. Hanna would like that. She might feel like she’s causing us to miss out on important dungeon quests.”

 Kazumi said.

”You’re right. Maybe we can ask Dad to help out. After all, with me not being home as much, the maids should have more time on their hands. We can ask them to look after Ms. Hanna under the pretext of ‘taking care of my needs’ while I’m away.”

”Alright, so tomorrow, Rena and I will take Ms. Hanna to the clinic, and Hiroya and Kazumi can go to the lord to make the request.”

 ”Sounds like a plan!”

”Yeah, and we’ll try to convince Ms. Hanna to keep the baby.”

With a decision made, Hiroya got into bed.

 ”Goodnight, Hiroya.”

 The girls said in unison.

Kazumi and Rena snuggled in on either side of Hiroya, their warmth surrounding him. Hiroya felt comforted by their presence and drifted off to sleep.
