Chapter 571 The Banquet of “Ddo-Buddy” ③
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”So, Rose and Marian have already left for the Holy City?” I asked.
’Indeed. To think the “Holy Figure” and a Church sister would march right through our Empire…’ Carley sighed, her voice heavy.

We spoke in the catacombs of the Canarias Great Cathedral. My companion was my beloved Ancient Elf, Carley, who should have been at the Wielope Empire’s palace.
I used a “Sacred Relic” kept by the Church of Demon-Subjugation: the Heavenly Ear, Heavenly Eye, Heavenly God Window1. It let me talk to people far away, like a video call. “Holy Figure” Loire-Rose had given me permission as a reward for stopping the Succubi.
Normally, no commoner could use it, or even know it existed. But Rose thought my bond with Carley would help the Kingdom of Canaria and the Wielope Empire get along, and bring peace to the Northern Continent.
In fact, Rose, Marian, and the Clergymen hunting the remaining Succubi could travel freely in the Empire thanks to Carley’s single word.
”So, how’s the purge? Last time, you said they’d search every corner around the capital…” I asked.
’Yes, they wiped out the pack trying to nest nearby,’ Carley said, calm and steady. ‘They sent a few groups to check if any ran north, east, or west… but I doubt it’s needed.’
Their last talk was a few days ago. Back then, they hadn’t even found the nest. Now they’d cleaned up the Succubi around the capital in under a week.
”Huh, fast. Not that I doubt them, but is it safe to move so quick?” I scratched my head.
’It should be fine,’ Carley said, a hint of a chuckle in her voice. ‘I didn’t see it, but I hear the “Holy Figure” and that sister were terrifyingly good.’
”Ah… Yeah, I can picture it…” I muttered.
’Indeed… They wore “traditional Succubi-hunting clothes” — just thin strings and see-through fabric, barely covering anything. They used themselves as bait to lure the Incubi,’ Carley said, her calm voice never wavering. ‘Their charm was so strong, some soldiers thought they saw a haze in the air. In the end, the men with them collapsed from nosebleeds…’
…I worried about what else those soldiers might have leaked. Even if it was just nosebleeds, it was bad. Seeing trained soldiers like that made me worried for the Empire.
”Is that… really okay?” I asked, a drop of sweat on my forehead.
’Well, it won’t kill them,’ Carley said smoothly. ‘More importantly, when they spotted a Succubus, they fought like demons. Without even using “Holy Arts,” they just ripped them apart and threw them aside2. They tore through the enemy with godlike ferocity.’
…When she said “ripped apart and threw aside,” I wondered if she meant a specific part of the Incubi. No, I’d assume it was a metaphor. If not, I’d have trouble looking Rose and Marian in the eye next time.
’Oh, the “Ddo-Buddy” units you gave us also helped draw the Succubi out,’ Carley added.
”Oh, good. I meant it as a joke, but I’m glad it worked,” I said, rubbing my neck.
’Quite,’ Carley agreed, amusement in her eyes. ‘They say the sight of grown, half-naked men running through the fields, clutching a “Ddo-Buddy” in each hand, was hideous. But the tactic worked perfectly.’
Whether the monsters were drawn to the men or the toys was a mystery. But since it worked, it was a win.
Carley then explained more strange strategies the Church used. My main takeaway: “I’m very glad I wasn’t there.” Still, it showed how desperate people once were against the Succubi.
Every luring method was something no sane mind could think up, let alone do. Hanging underwear stained with bodily fluids from a tree was just one example.
In the current vanguard, they’d also tied a “Ddo-Buddy” to a chain and swung it like a morning star, or thrown it into the woods to fish for monsters…
’To think these techniques survived hundreds of years since the Succubi went extinct here… The pity is they lack anyone as strong as the “Holy Figure” or Marian. But given how long ago that was for mortals, they’re doing well…’ Carley mused.
”Wow. Even the great Lyra admits they’re worth something?” I teased.
’…I never hated that kind of person,’ Carley said, adjusting herself. ‘Their methods look insane to me, but the only thing I truly hate is the corruption in the Church’s leaders.’
Despite her defensive words, I could tell she saw the Church differently now. She recognized that no matter how crazy their methods, some people truly followed their beliefs for peace.
This event would likely change the Empire’s view too. The Emperor could hardly hate the Church after it saved his country. Maybe the Church and Empire would start to get along.
As I thought this, Archbishop Trantestar, standing guard nearby, gave a small signal: time was almost up. A closely guarded “Holy Relic” wasn’t something he could use forever.
”Sorry, looks like we’re almost out of time. I wanted to ask one more thing — how are you feeling? Are you okay?” I asked softly.
’Ah, we did get carried away chatting,’ Carley murmured, her formal tone softening. ‘Yes, I’m fine. My morning sickness is gone, and my appetite is back.’
”I see, that’s a relief. Your belly must be showing by now…” I smiled.
’Heh, are you that eager to see the seed you planted in me?’ Carley teased, her cheeks red.
”…Don’t tease me. I’m really worried about you, you know?” I said, blushing.
’I know. I was just hiding my embarrassment. Forgive me,’ Carley said softly.
She leaned back with a soft smile, showing me her belly, now bigger than when I’d last seen her. It was a shame I couldn’t reach out and touch it or press my cheek against it — but just seeing her was a blessing. The way she stroked her own stomach filled me with warmth. And on her left hand… a ring caught the light, gleaming on her ring finger.
”…You’re still wearing the ring,” I said, my eyes warm.
’Of course. I never take it off,’ Carley said, looking down at it with deep love. ‘”Whenever you look at this ring, remember I’m telling you I love you”… that’s what you said, right? Every night before sleep, I press my lips to it.’
”Just a kiss?” I grinned.
’…Well, no. Lately, I put it in its proper place, then put that “Nip-Clit-Sucker” device you gave me over it… Goodness, don’t make me say more,’ Carley murmured, turning deep red.
Right. My beloved Ancient Elf was in wonderful spirits. My worries about her delivery would only grow, but I planned to keep in touch like this.
After a few sweet words, they ended the call. As it cut off, the Archbishop walked over, looking completely tired. Even a man of his endless calm couldn’t keep his usual smirk after hearing all that.
”Sorry to keep you waiting, Archbishop,” I said.
”Oh, I don’t mind… But seeing you two get along so well is beautiful,” the Archbishop replied calmly.
”Thanks. So, aside from Carley’s words — does the Church agree? Can we say the Succubi crisis is ending?” I asked.
”Yes, indeed… For now, everything is going smoothly,” the Archbishop said. “The Holy City has sent forces, and they’ve already killed many Succubi in the nearby lands.”
”Are you planning to trap them from both sides?” I asked.
”That is the plan,” the Archbishop said. “Her ‘Holy Eminence’ and her vanguard will enter the Holy City. The forces there now will rotate out to hunt the rest across different regions. Creatures like Succubi aren’t easy to wipe out completely.”
I nodded. They would keep cycling through territories to burn every last nest. With more coming from the Southern Continent, the Church was putting all its strength into this.
”Beyond that, as long as we don’t meet any seasoned veterans, we should be fine,” the Archbishop added.
”Seasoned veterans?” I repeated.
”Yes. People with the titles ‘Succubi King’ or ‘Succubus Queen.’ Those are the ones to watch out for,” the Archbishop warned.
No matter how I looked at it, those words felt like a bad sign. But for now, I just nodded.
