Chapter 74 The Saintess’s Irreverent Choice and the Church’s New D✱✱do Business

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”Saintess, was that alright?”

The question came from Archbishop Trantestar, directed toward the only woman in the waiting room—a space specifically prepared for the “Inquisitors” within a corner of the Canaria Cathedral.

”It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s not actually that dangerous, is it? Besides, seeing Mork-san¹ totally freaking out, and then seeing old man Soy having so much fun? That was hilarious.”

The answer was delivered by the woman who had settled the verdict of the “Ddo-Buddy Trial” with a single, decisive command: Saintess Loire-Rose. White hair, white skin, blue eyes. Since she wasn’t scheduled to meet anyone outside her inner circle from this point on, she no longer bothered to hide her face.

If she would only keep silent, she would be revered as a true Saintess. Seeing her utterly unrepentant demeanor, Trantestar gently scolded her, his eyebrows drooping.

”His Eminence the Cardinal only wants to keep you away from evil things, you know. Even if the possibility is small.”

”I know that! But come on, if you keep saying stuff like that, I’d never be able to leave my room for my entire life! Anyway, back when Incubi and Succubi were running wild, maybe, but nowadays? Expecting me to live only for ‘Prayer’ and ‘Training’? That’s totally insane. When am I even supposed to show the results of that ridiculous ‘Training,’ anyway?” Loire-Rose steamed, finally letting out her daily frustrations. She understood. Mork wasn’t a bad man; he was just a traditionalist with a head full of old rules, clinging too tightly to an ideal vision of a Saintess.

Ugh, which, fine, is still super annoying. But she also knew that despite his rigidity, he was doing his best to put up with things and grant her wishes. He was truly worried about her well-being.

They were just tragically incompatible, though. She really wished he’d give up already. The moment someone like her was chosen to be the Saintess, the old-era Saintess he dreamed of ceased to exist.

Faced with this explosion of discontent, Trantestar simply offered a troubled, wordless smile. Such a shifty guy, Loire-Rose thought, as always.

”Hah, well, whatever. Even if I told Tresta-san, you probably wouldn’t get it anyway. The only one who really understands how I feel is probably Cec-chan.”

Trantestar still offered no reply. Loire-Rose puffed out her cheeks at his silence, wishing Queen Cecile would hurry up and arrive to pick her up. She was scheduled to stay at the Royal Palace again tonight.

Cecile was just like her—burdened by her surroundings and prevented from having an ordinary life. Loire-Rose felt an especially deep kinship with her.

She was looking forward to the pajama party, and now that the “Tremble-Ddo-Buddy” was acquitted, Cecile wouldn’t have to keep secrets about the magic shop’s goods. Cecile’s complexion had been so much better than when they last met. Loire-Rose grinned to herself, planning to get to the bottom of the reason why.

”Still, putting a vibrator into a ddo—how did they even come up with that?”

”Indeed. And to think it would produce such an effect…”

As Loire-Rose changed the subject, Trantestar immediately jumped onto the new topic. In truth, he had been tremendously surprised when he read the technical paper.

”To think the problems of the Beastmen would be solved so easily.”

”If our pioneering predecessors who struggled with this heard of it, they would surely be so astonished they’d fall over.”

Since ancient times, the Church of Demon-Subjugation² had clashed with this issue. The Beastmen’s extraordinary physical abilities were invaluable in vanquishing ‘Evil,’ but they were desperately incompatible with the Church’s teachings. A Church that preached abstinence could not easily accept a race whose monthly urges drove them into a sexual frenzy.

No matter how hard they preached, the Beastmen were unmoved, and even the regular devotees had complaints. Though the concept of ‘venting’ one’s sexual desire was hard to accept at the time, leaning instead towards suppression, the Beastmen suffered for far too long.

”Maybe the Church can change, too…”

”I wish it would turn into: ‘Abstinence is old news! Now it’s the Era of Expression!’ or something.”

”Heh. Unfortunately, that won’t change for the common folk. And I suspect the Saintess’s role won’t change either.”

 ”Tsk.”

When she voiced her disappointment—what’s wrong with dreaming a little?—Trantestar began to offer that same faint smile again. Loire-Rose sighed deeply and directed a cold, critical look at him.

”So, did you just come to lecture me and make small talk, Tresta-san?”

”No, actually. Since we’re here, I was hoping to sell this item as a training tool in the monasteries across the land. Furthermore, I’m considering whether the monasteries could get involved in the manufacturing, and I was hoping to receive your permission.”

”That’s not something I should be giving permission for, is it…?”

”Oh, no, no. When convincing others around, having the Saintess’s permission makes a tremendous difference.”

Trantestar said this with his usual quiet smile. It was highly suspicious, but it wasn’t a disadvantage to the Church, and it didn’t matter to her whether she granted permission or not. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to hear him out.

 ”What’s in it for me?”

”I’ll help you get out the next time you wish to leave the cathedral.”

”Hmm, not bad. Also, send me a variety of that store’s products. I don’t really get it, but ddos come in different types, right?”

”Yes, of course. It would be an even greater boon if you were to promote them in the Holy Capital.”

That, in turn, would make Cardinal Mork extremely busy. He’s kind of pitiful, so maybe I’ll go easy on him, Loire-Rose mused inwardly. But Trantestar had played this very well. Was he, in fact, the one who gained the most from this whole affair?

”Tresta-san, maybe you should have become a merchant instead of a priest?”

”Hehehe, that’s harsh. I like to think I’m doing this for the Church, though.”

”Making money is for the Church?”

”No, it’s something far more valuable than just making a few coins.”

 ”Huh.”

Oh well, Loire-Rose accepted. He was probably saying they could win over the ‘Tremble-Ddo-Buddy’ fans. The Beastmen, and Queen Cecile, the sovereign of a nation. She wasn’t interested in politics, but it was certainly best to get along with them.

”You really think about the most complicated, annoying things, don’t you?”

”And the Saintess lives too much by her instincts.”

It was an insulting thing to say, but it was also true, and the man was often rude to everyone, so she didn’t mind.

That night, however, she would find herself lying in bed, delighting in the thought: “It’s great that I have someone who thinks about all those complicated things for me!”

 Summary:

The rebellious Saintess Loire-Rose challenges the conservative Archbishop Trantestar after the Ddo-Buddy trial. She mocks the Church’s outdated rules and demands a variety of adult toys for her own personal study. Trantestar, a master manipulator, successfully co-opts the Saintess’s power to legitimize the sale of the ‘Tremble-Ddo-Buddy’ as a ‘training tool’ for monasteries, strategically gaining favor with the Beastmen and Queen Cecile. The chapter ends on the Saintess’s anticipation of her pajama party with the Queen and her surprising appreciation for Trantestar’s scheming.

 —

 Character Insight:

Loire-Rose, despite her divine role and appearance, is deeply human, easily bored, and focused on her personal freedom and pleasure. She sees Queen Cecile as a kindred spirit. Trantestar is revealed to be a calculating and pragmatic agent of change within the Church, using the Saintess as a tool for political and commercial gain while maintaining a façade of polite piety.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

This chapter establishes the immediate, real-world impact of the ‘Tremble-Ddo-Buddy’—it’s not just a novelty, but a political tool that resolves the long-standing conflict between the Church’s abstinence-focused teachings and the Beastmen’s monthly sexual urges. This signals a major shift in the Church’s future, orchestrated by the seemingly harmless Archbishop.

 —

 T/L:

¹ Mork-san: Loire-Rose uses the casual ‘-san’ suffix even when referring to the powerful Cardinal Mork, showing her irreverent attitude towards hierarchy.

² Church of Demon-Subjugation: This is the name of the main religious institution, whose primary focus is fighting ‘Evil’ (Demons, etc.). This makes their historical struggle with the Beastmen’s ‘unholy’ urges a significant point of internal conflict.

• Trantestar – The middle-aged man Archbishop of Canarias and the initiator of the current trial. He is an alleged ally of Kento but remains suspiciously neutral.

• Mork – A central figure in the ‘Inquisition.’ Acts panicked and constantly looks sideways, seemingly pressured by the masked Inquisitor. He represents the rigid, fear-based opposition to the protagonist’s products.

• Loire-Rose – The current Saintess, possessing a divine appearance yet a modern, playful, and irreverent attitude that clashes with Church tradition. She has white hair, pale skin, blue eyes, and wears clergy robes.

• Cecile – A high-ranking, powerful woman in the capital who possesses the authority to regulate business and commerce, particularly concerning moral or public order issues. She is currently investigating Kento’s shop, ‘Harvest.’ Have long golden hair, elegant, and wearing expensive white dress with gold accesories.
