Chapter 259 Two Weeks of Movement
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
It had been 2 weeks since I started making moves to attract people to the frontier settlement, and I was inside a carriage.
Not just any carriage, but a proper one with the Count Atmiras family crest on it.
I was heading to the estate of Viscount Hedmar in Denarl with Zora to negotiate about the new road.
In these two weeks, I can mention a few things that happened. First, I got permission from His Majesty to open a new road.
If Viscount Hedmar shows any hesitation about connecting the road, it would mean criticizing the permission granted by His Majesty.
Viscount Hedmar would hate that, so at this point, it’s almost certain that the road will be opened.
So, what I need to discuss this time is the process of opening the road and what happens afterward.
Next, I made a move in Arafem as planned, sending gifts to His Majesty and 2 nobles famous for their gourmet tastes, and it was generally well-received.
His Majesty seemed to find it very interesting, and I think that’s why I got the road-opening permission so easily.
Duke Clement also had a very positive reaction and placed an order right away.
It was quite a large amount, so it probably includes not just what he’ll eat but also ingredients for the chef to create new dishes.
Narsht-san seemed to have been put on the spot before, and I feel bad for the chefs at Duke Clement’s place, but if it goes well, Duke Clement will definitely throw a party, which would be great publicity for other nobles, so I hope they keep pushing through.
Lastly, about Marquis Rubal, since His Majesty has given a stamp of approval, the public response has been positive, but since there hasn’t been an order from Arafem, the actual evaluation might be a bit iffy.
This is something I expected. As Narsht-san said, I never thought that a foodie would fully embrace Arafem, which is tricky to handle as an ingredient, just because of its taste.
I thought Duke Clement, who loves flashy and new things, might bite, but there was also a chance we wouldn’t get a good reaction from either side, so all in all, it’s a decent outcome.
While I was thinking about this, bouncing around in the carriage, Zora, who had been quiet the whole time, suddenly spoke up.
”Hey, are we really going to negotiate just the two of us?”
”Yeah, why? What’s up with that?”
Diana, who’s driving, is technically with us as my attendant, so it’s actually 3 of us, but I wonder what’s bothering Zora.
”Since we’re negotiating with nobles, I thought dad would show up, so I was a bit nervous.”
”Oh, so that’s why you’ve been so quiet today? I thought you were just──.”
”‘Just what’? What do you mean?”
I was about to say she was nervous about meeting Viscount Hedmar, but Zora shot me a sharp look, and I couldn’t say more.
”…Hmph, whatever. But does this mean I’ve been pushed to negotiate on my own?”
”No, I said I’d go negotiate directly this time.”
”Wait, you?”
I couldn’t help but chuckle at Zora’s surprised face.
I guess she never thought I’d say I’d go negotiate myself after always saying I wanted to avoid nobles.
”What’s gotten into you?”
”Well, first off, Dad is already working on bringing a priest to the frontier settlement, so I felt bad leaving Viscount Hedmar to him. And the main reason is…”
”What is it?”
”Because I was told, ‘I’m looking forward to it’.”
”What’s that supposed to mean? I don’t get it at all.”
Zora looked at me, urging me to explain more clearly, so I replied:
”I’m going to confirm things.”
