Chapter 269-2 Marquis and the Party
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Oh, hello?”
”We came here to enjoy the food. Let’s just do as they do.”
”Yeah, I suppose so.”
Ignoring both color and balance, Marquis Rubal grabs whatever he feels like eating and returns to his designated table.
Marquis Rubal’s plate becomes a small mountain; just looking at it makes your stomach rumble.
On the other hand, the lady has neatly arranged her food, though this is more out of a sense of propriety than anything else, and she discreetly has 3 small plates of sweets.
”Well, let’s eat then.”
”Yes.”
Just as he picks up his knife and fork, Marquis Rubal glances around.
While cutlery is set for each table, very few people cut their food into bite-sized pieces and eat it elegantly.
Most people fork their food onto their knives and bite into it, and some even drink soup directly from the cup without using a spoon.
No one seems to mind.
Marquis Rubal follows suit, setting down his knife and stabbing a piece of meat with his fork.
He opens his mouth wide and takes a large bite.
It’s a popular meat dish in the kingdom.
The sauce is omitted, and the meat is seasoned with just a minimum of spices and salt to bring out its flavor.
The first bite explodes with the savory meat and a well-balanced blend of spices.
However, because he piled it on haphazardly, the flavors of other dishes have muddled.
If he saw someone doing this at a normal party, he would definitely reprimand them…
”Hmm… Delicious.”
Despite the fact that the flavors of the dish have been compromised, Marquis Rubal smiles and declares it delicious.
He knows he would never accept such a thing under normal circumstances, yet he finds himself strangely content.
It wasn’t just Marquis Rubal who felt this way; all the other guests seemed equally satisfied, their faces lit up with smiles as they enjoyed the food wholeheartedly.
For Duke Clement, food is a way to satisfy the “eyes.” For Marquis Rubal, it’s a way to satisfy the “tongue.” And for the majority, it’s a way to satisfy the “stomach.”
The basis of it all was those 3 things, and he believed nothing else was necessary, thought Marquis Rubal.
”I see, his heart filled with a dish…”
Marquis Rubal muttered softly, realizing the true nature of what he had felt.
When had he last eaten something and felt joy instead of just “delicious?”
Marquis Rubal took the food into his mouth not to savor it, but to enjoy it, rediscovering a feeling he had long forgotten.
Even though the flavors were transferred, Narsht’s cooking was undeniably exquisite.
By the time all the food on the plate was gone, Marquis Rubal’s belly was completely full and heavy, rubbing his distended stomach.
”Phew…when was the last time I ate this much?”
”That’s right, I don’t eat this much even from morning till now.”
As they continued talking about how there wouldn’t be much room left for dessert, a woman emerged from the depths of the building, carrying a silver tray.
”The fried food is ready!”
”Fried food, you say?”
Fried food wouldn’t be served at a party; everyone would be too focused on conversation, and the food would get cold.
That’s why the focus was on dishes that could be enjoyed even when cold, and dishes like fried chicken were rarely served.
However, this was Shiown, a gathering that was anything but ordinary.
At the mention of more fried food, a crowd surged forward with their plates, gathering around the steaming, freshly cooked dish.
All the fried food would be devoured before it could even cool down.
”Ugh…”
Marquis Rubal let out a small grunt, clutching his stomach.
His belly was full, but his heart yearned for more.
He knew eating more would lead to regret later, but with that understanding, Marquis Rubal stood up and plunged into the crowd vying for the fried food.
”Ufu fu, oh my.”
A few minutes later, the wife saw her husband return, proudly displaying his spoils on a plate, and she couldn’t help but smile genuinely.
