Volume 1 Chapter 27 Return

The next day, I was questioned directly by Sir Mihail. I thought I told the truth, but of course, it wasn’t accepted. They made up a story that I tried to force myself on Lady Beyond when she came to check on me in the middle of the night.
I feel so stupid for thinking these two were good people.
After the questioning was done, Sir Mihail sent everyone away and said to me.
”Mr. Yuuta. I will file a complaint with the Royal Military. You’re definitely getting fired, and if things go badly, you could even face the death penalty. But you’re still young, and you might have acted out of a moment of confusion. Beyond is beautiful, after all. So, while the crime won’t disappear, I can tell the Military that there were some mistakes on our side too, which might help reduce your punishment.”
Damn, he’s trying to be nice at a time like this.
As I cursed him in my head, Sir Mihail continued.
”Mr. Yuuta. Please sit on that couch.”
I followed Sir Mihail’s instructions and sat on the big sofa in the corner of the room.
Sir Mihail came over with a whip in his hand.
I thought, oh no, am I going to get hit?
But the next moment, Sir Mihail plopped down next to me and said.
”Mr. Yuuta. Do you not like whip play?”
”Huh?”
”It’s like the saying, ‘If you have a heart, I have a heart too.’ Why not get to know me better, not just Beyond? If you do, I can help you as much as I can, even if I can’t make last night completely disappear.”
Saying that, Sir Mihail reached for my groin and whispered.
”Even if you get fired from the Military, you can still live as my valet (yōna).”
Wait, does that mean… is he suggesting something gay?
Sir Mihail started to grab me.
”No, no! Help me, Akari!”
I screamed.
At that moment, the door swung open, and Lady Beyond rushed into the room.
Oh, this is the complete opposite of last night… In front of me, Lady Beyond shouted.
”Surprise, success──────!”
The next moment, Sir Mihail burst out laughing.
Huh? Surprise? Wait, what does that mean…
”Sorry, Mr. Yuuta. I was just playing a trick on you. But since we’re cooperating, we should have some fun too!”
While I was still in shock, Lady Beyond spoke to me.
”Don’t worry, Mr. Yuuta. We were asked by Mr. Agohige to help you!”
Oh, I see. The person Mr. Agohige mentioned was Sir Mihail and his wife.
After that, we moved to the reception area, and Sir Mihail explained what happened.
”When I first got a letter from Mr. Jin, I was surprised. But when I stopped by here on my way to Tokura Village, I was even more shocked when he seriously told me you were someone worth paying attention to. I couldn’t believe Mr. Jin cared so much about someone.”
Sir Mihail and Mr. Agohige have been friends for over 30 years, crossing species and social classes. Lady Beyond added more details to explain.
”I’ve known my husband for over a hundred years, but you know how it is, sometimes you just get tired of the same old thing? I wanted to breathe some fresh air, so over ten years ago, I joined Mr. Jin’s Caravan for a while as an adventurer. That’s when I met ShaSha the dark elf. She was quite famous in the Royal Capital, but she got arrested for something and ended up on probation, so Mr. Jin’s merchant guild took her in. At first, she acted like a wild dog. Then one day, ShaSha bowed deeply to me and said, ‘Please take care of Yuuta.’ After seeing that, who wouldn’t want to help?”
I see, so that’s how it was… I really have been helped by so many people in this world.
”Anyway, Mr. Yuuta. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you get properly discharged from the military. Now, about what comes next, how about working at my family’s upper residence in the Royal Capital? It’s mostly physical labor, and I think the pay will be lower than in the military, but most of the other workers are Beastfolk, so you should be able to manage.”
The upper residence is a place that connects Sir Mihail’s territory with the Royal Capital. He stays there when he goes to the Royal Capital. I think I’ve seen something like that in a historical drama from my world.
”That sounds great! I would love to do that. But, Sir Mihail, I can’t thank you enough for doing this for a human like me.”
”Honestly, I don’t really care that you’re human… but I do have my own reasons. You know someone in the royal guard, right?”
That must be about Puruun.
”As local lords, we need to keep an eye on royal family news. A lot might happen soon… but this isn’t really about that. I just want to use any connections I have. This is also Mr. Jin’s advice.”
”Okay. I haven’t talked to her recently, and I’m still a newbie, so I don’t know how much help I can be, but I will do my best to repay your kindness.”
”Yeah, I’m counting on you… and Mr. Yuuta, seriously, if you want, you can be my valet. That thing you showed earlier was quite impressive…”
”Oh my, dear! Then I’ll surround Mr. Yuuta with swallows.”
”You two are so immoral. Elves are supposed to be monogamous, right?”
”Haha. But elves live many times longer than humans, so if we don’t enjoy different things, life gets boring! You’re always welcome if you feel like it.”
So, I stayed with Sir Mihail while waiting for news from the military. I talked to him and his wife about my world, the gate, and everything since I got here. They seemed to enjoy listening, probably because they were a bit bored.
A month later, I finally got my discharge notice from the military, and 2 weeks after that, I safely arrived in the Royal Capital. But by then, there were only 2 months left until Ms. Akari and Melon arrived.
I really needed to hurry and get ready. I thought I should report what happened in Ilman, so I headed to the merchant guild.
”Did it go well? I couldn’t tell you before, but my dad was planning to ask Sir Mihail from the start.”
Ms. Humari said happily.
”And what about Puruun?”
”Well, she’s still out of touch. I’m getting really frustrated, so I reached out to some military contacts, but right now, we have no news about the royal guard… Actually, it seems like the Fourth Princess has fled. Some say she ran away because she didn’t want to be arranged for marriage. They say she headed south. Well, the royal family’s drama doesn’t really concern us commoners, but I think that’s why the royal guard is being super strict now.”
Phew, I can’t really count on Puruun. Well, my freedom has increased, and I can get ready to welcome Ms. Akari and the others, but I really wonder if Puruun is going to be okay.
