About a week has passed since Sir Mihail and his group tried to escape the Royal Capital through the canal passage, but it’s still unclear if they succeeded. The reason is that the day after their escape, a big wooden board was nailed to the front gate of the mansion, sealing it off, so there’s no way to confirm any information.
Sir Mihail was worried that his family might have been cut off from their home, but then a messenger from Ms. Claudel visited at night and told me that the escape was successful.
She also mentioned that things were going to get more dangerous in the Royal Capital, so it would be best for the family to evacuate to Ilman if possible.
Indeed, with the mansion closed, I’m out of a job, so I can see why that might be a good idea.
However, Ms. Akari has started helping with Mr. Panarail’s dictionary project, and it wouldn’t feel right to just leave without notice, so I decided to consult the Royal Museum about our future.
”Given the current situation, your family’s well-being takes priority over the dictionary, right? It can’t be helped. Well, it will take some time, but we can still make progress with letters and such…”
Mr. Panarail looked disappointed.
If only we had the internet, working from home would be a breeze.
”Oh, by the way, Mr. Yuuta. I almost forgot to tell you in all this commotion, but about that smartphone… the passcode has been unlocked! Good thing it happened before the battery died!”
”Really? Is that so?”
It’s about the smartphone belonging to Mr. Sontsu, whom Mr. Tethyrkan met before.
Mr. Panarail called over some nearby curators to bring it over.
”Look. The icons are showing, right?”
Sure enough, with this, the apps can run, but probably in Chinese… I can’t really understand it.
But this is probably… yes, it’s definitely an image gallery. The icon designs aren’t much different from Japanese ones.
As I flipped through the photos, I wondered where they were taken. Skyscrapers, ports… oh, there’s an airplane flying low over the town. Could it be Hong Kong? While explaining this to Mr. Panarail and the others, I stumbled upon an unbelievable photo.
This is… a gate? Maybe Mr. Sontsu stumbled upon it and just walked in out of curiosity?
Looking closer, I saw that next to the photo was a video, so I hit play right away…!
Ah… it’s an Elf… the one that communicated with me telepathically is on screen.
Unfortunately, I can’t understand what it’s saying, but it definitely looks like Mr. Sontsu is talking to that Elf.
”Oh man, that’s it! The one who teleported us to this world!”
When I showed the video to Mr. Panarail and the others, no one knew that guy directly, but someone mentioned that it looked like a uniform from a military joint research lab.
We’re connected!
We definitely teleported to the world where that guy is!
If we can just catch him, the way back will open up!
I was so overwhelmed that I started crying.
Then, the person who mentioned the military uniform said they had a friend who used to work at the military joint research lab and offered to ask them.
So grateful!
But I wasn’t sure if my phone battery would last until we got to that person, and since it was museum property, I thought it might be wrong to just take it out.
”How about drawing a sketch of it?”
Mr. Panarail suggested.
Right… I wonder if Ellulu could do it?
She’s always sketching and drawing.
That night, I told everyone that we might have found a clue to get back. Since the upper residence was closed and I was out of a job, I suggested moving to Ilman.
”It’s a shame that we finally got the work process sorted for the dictionary job, but it’s true that things are pretty chaotic in town, and with Sir Mihail’s situation, it would be a problem if Yuuta got arrested, so I’m on board with going to Ilman. I’ll keep working with Mr. Panarail through letters for a while.”
Ms. Akari agreed to go to Ilman, but Ellulu and Melon wanted to continue school, so everyone agreed to live apart until this royal mess calmed down.
”Just doing the sketch is a piece of cake, a piece of cake!”
So, it was decided that Ellulu would draw the portrait for me.
The next day, I went to the museum with Ellulu to get that Elf’s portrait done from a video on my phone, and we also discussed the arrangements for meeting with someone who had quit the Military Joint Research Institute.
That person seems to be in the Royal Capital, and the museum staff would check the schedule for us, but I can’t head to Ilman until that meeting is over. Still, I wanted to evacuate Ms. Akari and Karin as soon as possible, so I consulted Mr. Agohige at the merchant guild.
”Oh, I also heard from Ms. Sharlin. She said the fighting during the escape was totally underwhelming. Apparently, more than half of it was handled by Lady Beyond… But the next time I can see her will be when I head to Tokura Village.”
Mr. Agohige whispered to me quietly.
Ms. Humari handed me some documents.
”Okay, please fill this out. We need to submit a list of people entering and leaving the Royal Capital. So, please write down Ms. Akari and Karin’s names here. My Ilman shipment will leave in 4 days.”
