Volume 3 Chapter 15-2 Searching for Materials for the Sword, Stirring Emotions

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The Mirage Brown Snail is a giant caterpillar with a shell that has an optical camouflage function.

The shell reflects its surroundings, making it look like it’s turned invisible.

Since the shell is invisible, its body looks like a giant slug when it comes out.

It moves slowly, but it’s deadly if you let your guard down.

When the Mirage Brown Snail senses an adventurer, it hides in its shell and conceals itself.

Then it spits out toxic mucus at its unsuspecting prey.

This mucus is incredibly sticky, and once an adventurer is immobilized, they’re done for.

”Getting the material is such a hassle.”

 I muttered with narrowed eyes.

Until now, when defeating the Mirage Brown Snail, I never aimed to collect materials.

I usually just used Lifia’s wind magic to destroy the shell from a distance and clean up.

It’s an easy and safe method.

 But this time is different.

The request from Bess requires bringing back the shell in perfect condition.

It can’t be broken or missing, and it’s no good if it’s turned to bits.

”The body inside is visible, right? Then, I’ll handle it.”

 Kéa steps forward.

”Be careful, that mucus is trouble if it touches you.”

The Mirage Brown Snail’s mucus is notorious among adventurers.

Even though it can be cured with a potion, we want to avoid Kéa getting hurt.

”I can avoid it. Besides, this is a job for my sword, and I really want to do it!”

 Her eyes are determined.

With Kéa’s dynamic vision and physical ability, she has a good chance of dodging the mucus.

 ”Got it. Be careful.”

 ”Understood!”

Kéa moves forward with a light step towards the place Lifia indicated.

There’s no sign of unease or hesitation in her posture.

 In fact, she seems confident.

After a while, the space ripples and distorts.

The Mirage Brown Snail’s optical camouflage fails, revealing the giant caterpillar’s body.

In that moment, the Mirage Brown Snail shoots mucus at Kéa.

 ”I can see it!”

 Kéa just barely avoided it.

Then, she closed the distance instantly, and her sharp twin swords cut through the body of the Mirage Brown Snail perfectly.

The snail was cut in half, lying on the ground.

It twitched for a while, but soon it stopped.

 ”I did it!”

Kéa managed to take it down brilliantly.

There was not a single wasted movement, proving her true skill with that strike.

”That was an amazing move, Kéa.”

”Thanks to Milord! I will work even harder!”

I praised her from the heart.

Kéa flushed a bit shyly, but proudly stood tall.

The shell of the Mirage Brown Snail was left completely intact, without a scratch.

Thanks to Kéa’s wonderful sword skills.

”Alright, let’s move on to the next step.”

We carefully carried that shell toward the nearby lake.

This is not just any lake.

It is the Acid Gel, a monster that disguises itself as slime.

To the eye, it looks like beautiful water, but touch it, and the acidic liquid will dissolve anything instantly; it’s a dangerous area.

But this time, it will be useful.

When we arrived, we pulled the shell of the Mirage Brown Snail to the edge of the lake.

Then, we carefully tossed the shell into the water.

From the shell dropped into the lake, a faint fizzing sound echoed.

The surface of the lake bubbled gently, showing the snail’s body gradually dissolving in the acid.

After a while, only the shell should remain.

This was the adventurer’s knowledge that Gaedaf taught me.

We decided to wait for it in the Love Hotel room.

The Love Hotel room was comfortable.

To recover from our adventures, we took hot showers, enjoyed cold drinks, and had a relaxing time.

A cozy rest that ordinary adventurers could never have.

After our break, we returned to the lake.

At the edge of the lake, the shell of the Mirage Brown Snail was waiting.

The Acid Gel had digested the insides and spat out the shell.

 ”Wow… it’s so beautiful!”

 Lifia exclaimed in awe.

Kéa also looked into the shell with sparkling eyes.

The leftover shell shimmered like a gem, reflecting light in a rainbow of colors.

The task for Beckus is done without a hitch.

I’m so curious to see what kind of sword this shell will turn into.

 My excitement is growing.

* * *

”You’re early. I thought it would take longer.”

A few days later, when I visited old man Beckus’s workshop, he said that with a surprised look.

In truth, I could have returned even sooner, but I adjusted my time to hide the existence of the Love Hotel.

”Well, well. Did you get the materials properly?”

 ”Of course. Here you go.”

I handed over the carefully wrapped package.

The first was the horn of a Sword Deer.

A pair of magnificent horns that shine like metal and are as sharp as blades.

The second was the shell of a Mirage Brown Snail.

The huge shell, about a meter in diameter, was beautifully glowing in iridescent colors.

”Oh, indeed, such a beautiful Status. And to prepare this in such a short time. Gaedaf’s introduction was not for nothing.”

Old man Beckus took the Mirage Brown Snail shell and the Sword Deer horn with admiration, examining them closely.

His narrowed eyes showed his satisfaction with the quality of the materials.

”As expected from dungeon-bred materials. This luster, and this hardness… seems like it’ll be a good job.”

The old man snickered and turned his gaze to us.

”But first, let’s see the little lady in action. To make a sword, it’s best to know the habits and fighting style of its wielder.”

We followed the old man’s words and moved to a spacious area at the back of the workshop.

It seemed to be used as a place for trial cuts and forging, with wood and metal debris piled up haphazardly.

Kéa casually gripped 2 swords, took a deep breath, and got into position.

 ”Let’s begin.”

With her shout, her sword swings started.

Her movements were designed for real combat, yet they had a beautiful, dance-like quality.

The swords in her hands cut through the air swiftly, making a soft whooshing sound each time, conveying her focus and skill.

 ”Hmph, hmm, hmm. Good rhythm.”

The old man crossed his arms and watched, letting out a voice of admiration… but his eyes were only focused on Kéa’s chest.

I wondered if this really would help with the sword.

A bit doubtful about the old man, I decided to stay quiet so I wouldn’t disturb Kéa’s focus.

”Alright, that’s enough! I’ve seen the best!”

The old man nodded with satisfaction and clapped his hands loudly.

 Then he grinned and declared.

”With this, I can make the best swords. Expect 2 that are perfect for you, little lady!”

Kéa’s eyes sparkled as she bowed deeply at his words.

 ”Thank you very much!”

I was a little amazed, but I chose to believe that this old man would really make great swords.

Kéa would soon have the best sword.

Looking forward to the sword’s completion, we left the workshop.

Then, a few days later, we got a message that the swords were finished.
