Volume 4 Chapter 24 The Money Grind Returns
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I went to several magic gear shops looking for a spellbook Yomi could use, but in the end, I didn’t find anything close to what I hoped for.
”Maybe useful spellbooks just aren’t available on the market at all,”
Tifi guessed the reason.
Simply because they’re rare, take a long time to master, so one person hangs on to them for ages, and even if they don’t need them anymore, they pass them to family, not strangers.
It’s probably something like that.
”Makes sense.”
I didn’t expect to find one easily, but now another problem hit me.
The price of spellbooks.
Even low-level spellbooks go for hundreds of thousands to a million Aurum.
For high-level ones, the cheapest start at ten million Aurum, and some can cost hundreds of millions.
”That’s insanely expensive.”
I instinctively pressed my hand to my forehead.
”Lifia, how much cash do we have?”
”About 5.82 million Aurum,”
Lifia answered immediately.
As expected of my household’s accountant.
Dependable as hell.
Still, that’s nowhere near enough to buy a high-level spellbook.
Thanks to our ‘Love Hotel,’ we don’t need much money.
We rarely have to use cash.
We never even made an effort to earn cash on purpose.
That’s why I totally forgot how little money we actually had.
”Should we focus on making money first instead of hunting spellbooks?”
I crossed my arms, thinking.
But earning money for something that’s not even on the market might be pointless.
Would it be faster to hide in a dungeon and farm treasure chest drops?
No, wait──weren’t we trying to get spellbooks to beat dungeons in the first place?
My thoughts went in endless circles.
Come to think of it, Yomi’s ‘The Magic of Light Trajectories’ has to be a high-level spellbook too.
If we sold it, it’d probably fetch a huge sum.
I looked over at the spellbook in Yomi’s hands, thinking about that.
”W-We’re not selling this one, got it?”
Yomi noticed my gaze and clutched the spellbook tight to her chest.
She looked like a kid protecting a precious stuffed toy, and I couldn’t help but smirk.
”No selling, no selling.”
Shrugging with a wry smile, he pondered the situation.
Selling the spellbook would be putting the cart before the horse.
”If it’s about money, then I guess the quickest way would be to sell the items Mr. Taro’s ability produces as treasures found in a dungeon.”
Tifi suggested this as I was worrying.
”But…”
Huh?
”You might not get much money if you sell to the guild.”
”Why not?”
True, I’ve never sold anything made in the ‘Love Hotel’ to the guild before.
”The guild has a set standard price for loot. Even if it’s high-quality, it’s rare for them to buy it for more than the market value.”
”I see…”
So no matter how high-quality the items I make with my ability are, they won’t fetch a high price if I sell them through the guild.
”Then, what if we sell them privately?”
Lifia made a suggestion.
”For instance, if you sell to nobles or wealthy merchants, there’s a higher chance of getting a good price.”
If I deal directly, there’s room for price negotiation.
With the quality of the items from the ‘Love Hotel’, I could sell them for a high price.
But in that case, I’d need to find a buyer who can pay a high price.
But how do I find a buyer?
I’m just a Bronze Rank adventurer.
I don’t have the status to deal with rich people.
* * *
”That’s where I come in?”
”Yeah, sorry for always relying on you.”
”Don’t worry about it.”
Gaedaf, a Gold Rank adventurer, gives a reassuring smile.
His rugged, well-trained physique exudes a wild charm.
Despite his unshaven face, there’s no sense of discomfort.
He’s a good guy, as always.
Right now, I’m in a tavern with him.
It’s a high-end tavern where we’ve exchanged information before.
The refined and interesting atmosphere allows for discreet conversations.
That’s why I asked him to introduce me to a buyer for dungeon items.
”If that’s the case, instead of a buyer… how about I introduce you to a place to sell?”
”A place to sell? Like a market?”
”No, an auction.”
An auction!
There’s that option too.
”There will be fees, but you’ll still make plenty even after that.”
”I see, so there’s a chance to get a high price then.”
”Besides, they might even put up the thing Taro’s been eyeing.”
Ah, if it’s a high-end auction, there’s a chance they might auction off a senior spellbook, huh?
It’s not just spellbooks; there might be other useful stuff for us too.
”It’s scheduled for next week. There are conditions to participate, but I can get you an introduction.”
As expected of a Gold Rank adventurer.
”Sorry, I’m in your debt. I’ll be sure to──”
”Don’t worry about it. And as for this matter, no need for thanks.”
”Huh?”
Gaedaf gives a sly grin.
”If the stuff from the guy I introduce sells, a cut of the sales comes back to the introducer.”
”I see.”
He must think there’s enough benefit in introducing me.
”Don’t put up anything shitty, okay? If it does well, the organizers will look favorably on it, and it’ll lead to more opportunities.”
”And that means more kickback for Gaedaf, right?”
”That’s the idea.”
