Volume 4 Chapter 30-2 The Power of Hair and Woven Light
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”But…”
”?”
”At first, hearing it was 1.85 billion for just hair was enough to make me dizzy…”
”Ahaha…”
A cold sweat trickles down my back.
Guess everyone’s thinking the same thing.
As we talk, Yomi suddenly looks up.
”Hey.”
”Huh?”
”Just out of curiosity, what exactly’s my role? What do you expect from me?”
She throws the question at me.
I can tell she’s weighing her choices for spellbooks.
”Well…”
I start to think.
What do I actually expect from Yomi?
”Whether it’s offense or support, either would really help us out. Ideally, I just want you to fill in the gaps we’re missing.”
Yomi’s already shown her worth with ‘The Magic of Light Trajectories.’
She even dealt the final blow against a fierce enemy on the 5th floor of the dungeon, ‘Seafloor of Shadow Waves.’
But I can’t deny there were foes she couldn’t overcome.
My sword, Lifia’s Spirit Magic, Kéa’s dual-wielding skills.
And Yomi’s light magic.
Each has its strengths, but none are perfect.
If we can add Yomi’s new magic into the mix, our battles should stabilize.
”Sorry if that sounds vague.”
”No, it’s actually helpful.”
Yomi smiles gently and turns her gaze back to the spellbook.
”Alright then, it’s settled. I’m going with this one.”
With that, Yomi picks up a spellbook.
Its cover is beige.
It’s the 1.5 billion Aurum spellbook, ‘The Book of Weaving Radiance.’
* * *
Beneath our feet lies a sandy expanse.
Above us, the sunlight sparkles off the waves.
We were heading to the 5th floor of the dungeon, ‘Seafloor of Shadow Waves.’
Here, we planned to test out the effects of the new spellbook.
A few days after receiving the new spellbook at Count’s manor, Yomi had already finished reading it.
Thanks to her skills, she understood its contents fully.
And today, we’ll finally see that power in action.
”I’m ready whenever you are.”
Yomi stands ready, spellbooks in both hands.
In one hand, she holds her familiar ‘The Magic of Light Trajectories’; in the other, she’s opened the newly acquired ‘Mana Weave Codex’.
It’s a spectacular display of dual spellbook wielding.
”Are you really planning to combine them with light magic?”
I ask, surprised.
”Copying you, maybe?”
”There’s no way! The magic from ‘Mana Weave Codex’ shines brightest when it’s mixed with other spells!”
Kéa plays the fool, and Yomi swiftly retorts.
Just then, Lifia detects something lurking nearby.
”A swarm of demon sardines is approaching from the front!”
Shadows ripple ominously in the water ahead of us.
A massive surge of black and silver creatures rolls in like a wave.
Thousands of demon sardines swarm toward us.
”Leave it to me!”
Yomi begins to weave her incantation with fervor.
Pages of her spellbook flutter, and a bluish-white light erupts forth.
We all hold our breath at the emergence of new magic.
”Altair Ray!!”
As Yomi completes her chant, a beam of pure white light bursts from ‘The Magic of Light Trajectories’.
A sharp, singular beam surges straight toward the swarm of demon sardines.
This magic was something she’d used before.
But then, in the very next instant…
”Mana Weave!”
With the other spellbook raised high, Yomi manipulates the light as if it has a mind of its own.
The light unravels into thin threads, intertwining and expanding like a net.
”Wow…!”
I can’t help but gasp in awe.
The luminous web ensnares the demon sardines, immobilizing them one by one.
It was as if an invisible hand deftly captured the enemies.
”Incredible… you’ve woven the magic together into a new technique!”
Lifia’s eyes gleam with excitement.
”Yes, the power of ‘Mana Weave Codex’ lets me integrate everything into a seamless weapon!”
Yomi smiles proudly, basking in our admiration.
”A regular magician might only think to use their skills for something as mundane as weaving cloth. But me?..”
”I can weave magic itself into it.”
”That’s right!”
Yomi beams with pride, a triumphant smile spreading across her face.
Indeed, an ordinary magician might only ever understand a limited number of spellbooks in their lifetime.
But with Yomi’s skills, once she’s deciphered them, she can grasp their secrets.
Though limited by the time she holds them, this ability is truly unmatched by anyone else.
The captured demon sardines struggle desperately, but the threads of light refuse to yield.
The net tightens with a decisive *snap*.
”And that’s a wrap! Altair Ray!”
A dazzling flash races through the gaps in the net of light.
Squashed tightly together, the cluster of demon sardines is engulfed.
Right at the center, Yomi’s beam pierces through.
In the next instant, the group of demon sardines loses power in a flash.
Most likely, she pierced the individual commanding the flock.
”Lifia, how’s that?”
”…Looks like we hit the boss.”
”Impressive, Yomi!”
She puffs up her chest and laughs in satisfaction as I marvel at her skill.
”Heh, of course! This is the application of ‘Arcane Sewing Codex’!”
”I see. By weaving magic, you elevated a simple beam of light into a binding spell?”
Combining magics to create new techniques… what an intriguing concept.
A beam of light magic that doesn’t just stop at offense, but extends to binding and defense.
It greatly expands our tactical options.
The Seafloor of Shadow Waves is shrouded in Silence, yet eerie shadows flicker ominously.
In this dungeon teeming with unknown threats, I wonder just how far Yomi’s new power will take us.
I can’t wait to find out.
