Volume 4 Chapter 58 Patience Is a virtue—wait and See, Wait and Smoke

”If we’re going to the sea…”

 Tifi muttered, furrowing her brow.

It’s quite a distance from this town to the sea.

If we’re going by carriage, it’ll take a few days.

”If it’s the river, though, there’s one much closer.”

Lifia added. The town’s river has boats, though not as many as the sea.

”No, we don’t need to go that far.”

 ”Then what are we doing?”

Yomi tilted her head, looking puzzled.

 ”Dungeon.”

 ”…?”

 All eyes turned to me.

”Remember? The ship. On the fifth floor.”

 ”Ah! That ship!”

 Lifia snapped her fingers.

Yeah, the dungeon’s 5th floor, ‘Seafloor of Shadow Waves’… a mysterious, underwater world.

A massive sunken pirate ship lay there. It was probably a pirate ship. When we found it, it had turned into a creepy ghost ship with skeletons lurking inside.

And we had explored that ship, clearing out monsters.

 ”Wait… that pirate ship?”

”It was a ghost ship, right?”

Yomi and Tifi both remembered, their faces twisting in unease. They probably didn’t like the idea of using that creepy ghost ship.

”That old wreck… can it be fixed?”

 ”I don’t know, but it’s worth trying.”

If we can fix that sunken ship and turn it into a ‘Love Hotel’ motel… we’ll see if it’s possible. If we can fix it and use it, we could use that for any other transport too.

”Also, I think that ship itself might still be useful.”

”Useful? That thing… can it even move?”

”Who knows. But if it can be fixed and controlled…”

 ”Now that’s a dream!”

Kéa’s eyes sparkled as she spoke.

”But… you’re sure there won’t be any ghosts, right?”

 Yomi sounded worried.

”It was just skeletons before. If we fix it, those should be gone.”

 ”I hope so…”

Anyway, our next destination is clear. If that sunken ship on dungeon 5th floor can be repaired, we’ll use it.

I can’t believe we can sail that big ship ourselves, just a bunch of amateurs. But with the power of the ‘Love Hotel’ and the dungeon-made ship’s traits, we might just pull it off.

”If we can figure out how to make it move, there’s no better way to travel the seas. And in the ‘Seafloor of Shadow Waves,’ it’ll really shine. Our dungeon runs will be smoother than ever.”

* * *

We made our way back to the dungeon.

Our destination: the 5th Floor, ‘Seafloor of Shadow Waves,’ and the sunken ship along the way.

It’s a bit of a backtrack, but no big deal. If we can really use that pirate ship, it’ll save us time and effort for a big payoff.

We got attacked by monsters on the way, but they were no match for us now. No sweat, we’ve reached our target.

There we stood, in front of the sunken ship.

Rotten wood. Rusty anchor. A half-collapsed mast. Before us was a ship, silent as a grave, like time had stopped.

Last time we were here, skeleton pirates roamed the deck. We took down the skeleton captain in his cabin and silenced this vessel.

”I don’t sense any skeletons or strong monsters inside,” Lifia reported, using her detection magic. They seemed to be gone now.

It looks like the skeletons haven’t come back to life. Small fish are just swimming around, quietly making this wreck their home.

”I see, so that’s how it is,”

Rozmiaque murmured, gazing at the sunken schooner. His voice held a hint of wonder as he looked at the ship’s shadow on the seabed.

”So this is what you’d call a mid-point, huh?”

According to him, there’s a special area called the mid-point in each floor. Strong monsters guard rare magic tools there.

The ‘Spirit-Seekers’ Compass’ I got here must be one of those treasures.

”But doesn’t that give an huge advantage to the adventurers who clear these areas first?”

Rozmiaque nodded quietly to my question.

”Yes. It’s the way of this world.”

His voice was flat, like he was stating a fact.

”Dungeons are said to be like judgment arenas scattered across the world.”

Most of the magic tools left in places like the Midway or Protector’s Hall hold powers beyond human comprehension. Some have used them to build nations… others have destroyed them.

”It’s true that those who can’t access magic tools from places like the Midway or Protector’s Hall are at a disadvantage. But those who overcome that disadvantage… they’re the ones who rule the age.”

Is that really how it works?

So, am I the one who will rule this age?

The compass I found here is powerful, no doubt. With it, I’ll never get lost in a dungeon. And I could grab all the treasure chests for myself. It’s huge power.

But I can’t carry a whole nation on my back… and I don’t want to destroy any kingdom.

”Well, it doesn’t matter to me.”

As long as I can protect my wives, that’s enough.

 ”Let’s get to work.”

 ”Yes!”

Lifia and the others smiled and agreed.

We moved to the stern of the pirate ship.

I concentrated, and “Motel” appeared. A shutter appeared behind the ship, like it was rising from the sandy sea floor.

But this time, something was completely different.

The size was off the charts.

The opening of the shutter was so wide and tall that the entire ship could fit inside.

And there was even room at the top, enough to fit the mast too.

I opened the menu and tapped the ‘Open’ button.

With a quiet mechanical hum, the massive shutter slowly began to rise. And the inside came into view.

It was a spacious parking area… no, a ship maintenance dock.

The depth was more than enough. This pirate ship could fit comfortably.

”Alright, just like I hoped!” I couldn’t help but punch the air in victory.

This motel had expansion features after all… and it even worked for ships.

 ”It’s huge…!”

 ”Incredible!”

Everyone gasped in awe. They stared with wide eyes, their heads tilted back as they looked up at the ceiling, utterly stunned.

But this is where the real show starts.

We’ve got to somehow squeeze this giant sunken ship into the motel. Of course, there’s no way it’s got any moving power of its own after being underwater for so long.
