Volume 4 Chapter 64 Bombardment And Away
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
We finished getting ready for the rematch.
As the huge sea serpent, the Guardian, got ready to fight again, we set up our team perfectly.
First, we used the ‘Love Hotel’ card key to create many warp points around the battlefield. If we registered in advance, the whole ship could escape into the motel.
Our plan was to hit and run. We would attack from far away and retreat before the sea serpent could counterattack.
By attacking and then pulling back over and over, we would confuse it and slowly make it weaker. That was our strategy this time.
The key to this plan was our new weapon, the magic cannon.
It was a big cannon on the front of the ship, powered by my magic. By focusing strong magic power into one point, this cannon could break through even its tough scales and defenses.
The Brownie sailors helped with the cannon and the ship’s movement.
They did many jobs, like controlling the sails and rudder, aiming and reloading the cannon, helping us, and keeping watch.
This time, we had 5 more Brownies than last time, making a total of 15.
Summoning Brownies uses a lot of Yomi’s magic power. Keeping them also uses a little magic, so having more of them is risky.
But we already solved that problem.
Rozmiaque finally grew Ambrosia successfully.
Ambrosia is famous as a cure-all, but the juice from its fruit also restores magic power.
If we bottle it and store it in the Love Hotel’s fridge, it gets registered, and we can refill it endlessly inside the Love Hotel using magic power.
With this, Yomi, Lifia, and I don’t have to worry about running out of magic power anymore.
We’re all set. Now we just need to act.
This time, we will win.
After beating the Guardian Sea Serpent, we’ll move to the next floor.
* * *
Above, the water’s surface sparkled in the sunlight. I heard the soft sound of waves.
Around the ship, small fish swam as if they were dancing.
And yet, breathing was no problem.
This is a strange space under the water that isn’t really water. It’s the 5th floor of the dungeon, called ‘Seafloor of Shadow Waves.’
Our pirate ship is moving through this underwater sea.
Ahead, in our line of sight, there’s an underwater tower. It’s the path to the next floor.
And in front of that tower, there’s a huge creature coiled and sleeping.
Its blue scales reflect the sunlight, and its golden mane sways with the waves. It’s a sea serpent. To move forward, we need to defeat it.
The ship reaches the target point.
The pirate ship, sliding through the water, slowly stops and quietly points its front toward the sea serpent.
The magic cannon on the deck gathers magic power while making low rumbling sounds.
The Brownie sailor acting as the gunner sends a signal.
The gun is fully charged. The barrel shines with magic power, ready to fire.
Everything is ready. All that’s left is for me to give the command to shoot.
But, at that moment.
The huge creature coiled on the seabed starts to move slowly. Its long, sharp neck lifts slightly, and its giant head turns toward us. Then, the sea serpent opens its eyes.
Its blue eyes, glowing like water, look at us with icy coldness.
Its eyes are filled with clear purpose and caution.
Did it sense we were about to attack?
But we can’t stop now.
”Alright, fire!”
I give the signal to start the battle.
At the same time as my command, a huge flash bursts from the gun’s muzzle.
With a loud roar, the magic cannon’s shot flies through the water like a giant spear of light.
The sea serpent roars.
The next moment, its shape wavers in the water, and a distorted layer of light appears around it. It’s a clear barrier made of high-pressure water and air.
Last time, that barrier bent and blocked Yomi’s laser magic.
But this time, it’s different.
With this magic cannon, if I focus super-strong magic power into one point, I should be able to break through even that barrier.
When the flash hits the defense, the light explodes, and water swirls violently.
The next instant, cracks appear in the clear barrier, and the shot hits the sea serpent’s body directly.
A direct hit.
Its blue scales shatter, and silver pieces scatter in the water.
Blood stains the area as the sea serpent writhes and screams.
Alright, it’s working!
I clench my fist.
”Prepare the next shot!”
At the same time as my command, the Brownie gunner quickly starts reloading the magic cannon.
I focus on the golden compass I’m holding and pour magic power into it.
The magic power moves from the compass to the ship, and from the ship to the magic cannon.
The magic cannon is very powerful, and its range is perfect.
But because of its power, it can’t fire repeatedly. Each shot needs time to charge, like this one.
Of course, the sea serpent won’t miss this chance.
A roar echoes.
Vibrations run through the water, swirling water and air around the sea serpent.
From within that swirl, many sharks appear. These are the sea serpent’s summoned creatures.
But something is different compared to last time. They’re smaller. The sharks that appeared are clearly smaller than before, by about one or two sizes. Why?
”Water attack, coming!”
Lifia’s voice echoes on the deck.
”Evade!”
We react immediately.
The sea serpent opens its mouth and roars again.
Along with that roar, a strong water current races straight at us.
It’s like a dragon’s breath made of water. Last time, it probably didn’t reach us.
But if it’s serious, it can reach us even at this distance.
But we expected this.
Lifia uses wind magic to send wind to the sail.
The sail suddenly fills, and the ship speeds up instantly.
Just in time, the ship avoids the direct hit of the water flow.
The attack brushes past right behind the ship, stirring up sand from the seabed.
Maybe because of the distance, the power is weaker than before.
The shockwave’s aftereffects are barely felt.
But the real problem wasn’t that.
”Sharks are coming!”
Kéa’s voice rises.
Before we realize it, small sharks are rushing in, carried by that water flow.
The sharks were made smaller so they could be carried here by the water current.
They’re truly strong. They have the intelligence to read our actions and respond.
But even they can’t handle the ‘Love Hotel’ ability.
We evade while fighting off the sharks.
Lifia keeps sending wind magic to the sail, maintaining the ship’s speed.
Behind her, Yomi casts light magic. Sharp beams of light streak ahead, hitting the attacking sharks one after another.
Rozmiaque calmly chants magic.
Suddenly, trees grow out of the sandy seabed, and the extending vines tangle the sharks’ movements.
As for Kéa, she jumps and runs as if using the sharks’ backs as stepping stones, cutting them down with sword flashes. With a lively, dancing motion, she slashes through enemy after enemy.
I also draw my pistol and aim at the sharks.
This ‘Magic Bullet Shooter’ doesn’t need aiming. It automatically tracks the targeted prey and destroys it.
Six rounds of ammunition. Once they’re used up, I hand the gun to the Brownie soldier beside me and let him reload.
During that time, I switch to my sword and face the approaching sharks. The blade cuts through the water, taking down the enemies.
Meanwhile, Lifia and Rozmiaque’s voices overlap.
”Master! This time, there’s a barrage of shots!”
”There’s no escape!”
Looking, I see the sea serpent has already released its breath to block the ship’s path.
Terrible bullets, made of compressed water and air, rush forward one after another. No room to escape left or right.
We’re cornered.
”Motel!”
In response to my shout, a Brownie raises a golden card key.
The next moment, a magic circle like a shutter appears at the ship’s front and opens.
It’s the entrance to the motel. But at this speed, if we rush in, we’ll crash into the inside.
Still, we can’t stop.
”Charge straight in! Rozmiaque, hold it!”
”Understood! Ssloualbo, Tendril Cage!”
Rozmiaque chants.
The next moment, vines from a magic tree weave and extend inside the motel.
Several thick, flexible vines seem to have their own will, reading the ship’s path and quickly spreading into a net shape.
Green cushions overlap multiple times, serving as a buffer to catch the runaway pirate ship.
”Everyone, hold on!”
In response to my shout, everyone reflexively grabs columns and ropes.
At that moment, the ship crashes into the motel’s interior.
The shockwave hits.
The ship shakes, and the mast groans.
