Volume 2 Chapter 49 Project

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

While I was at the Third Medical Magic Laboratory, news arrived regarding His Majesty the King’s personal expedition. They stated that a Medical Mage unit would be dispatched from the Academy to join the forces.

”Departure is in three days. It is going to become quite busy with preparations from here on out. I apologize, but I simply do not have the luxury of overseeing her (Kenze). You must protect her. Well, I suspect the First and Second laboratories have their hands full as well.”

I was informed by the refreshingly handsome professor that he could no longer supervise the Amazoness slave Kenze.

It is a pity, but it cannot be helped.

I took Kenze and departed his laboratory.

The arcade was vastly different from when I had visited Professor Karl’s laboratory earlier; it was teeming not only with administrative staff but with researchers in white coats rushing back and forth.

Now then, what shall I do?

”Are you still thinkin’ of killin’ me? “

I asked Kenze as we walked, noting that the sharp edge in her demeanor had dulled somewhat.

”You killed my comrade back then”

Come to think of it, during the initial skirmish with her group, I had delivered the finishing blow to one of Kenze’s companions.

So, the motive to kill me still lingered.

I wondered if a truce was possible. Since Professor Karl could no longer look after her, there was a high risk she would be seized by the First or Second laboratories if I left her in my quarters.

Yet, taking her along during a time of war provided the perfect cover for a former intelligence operative to stage an escape.

”You’re a real piece of work”

 ”You should just kill me”

She gives an irresponsible response to my sigh-like words.

”Don’t be daft. If I could do that, I would’ve finished it already.”

 ”You’re the daft one”

I was annoyed, so I utilized Mana Drain to a degree that would incapacitate her without rendering her unconscious.

She began screaming about me being a coward, but I paid her no mind.

Having no other options, I returned to my quarters, locked her in a cage, and proceeded to the laboratory, where I found Henrietta-san, Marie, and Romy waiting.

”Don’t you lot have classes? “

”Classes were canned on account of the war, lad”

Apparently, they had gone to the lecture hall for the Magical Law session, only to find it had been called off.

”Aren’t you off to the war then? “

”Well, if they had a need for me, I assume they would have said so, but currently, there is nothing”

Magical aircraft might be viable for scouting, but their stability remains insufficient for active combat.

”What of the Amazoness slave? “

Since Henrietta-san asked, I explained the situation: that the First and Second Medical Magic laboratories had been pressuring me for vivisection experiments since morning, that I had been aided by Professor Karl in the Third, and that despite initial approval to leave her there, the war had rendered the arrangement void.

 ”(Poor girl)”

 ”How dreadful”

”So, what is the plan now? “

That was the core issue. With the war—or rather, His Majesty the King’s expedition—the Academy and the state would likely fall into chaos, and Kenze remained completely unmanageable.

”What are you doin’ about headin’ home? “

”I suspect heading down the Danube River will be impossible”

If the military mobilized from the Royal Capital toward Straba Province, they would utilize the Danube River from Besanburg(the seat of the Viscounty of Bizan) and Obernbach(a trading city).

Consequently, the shortcut along the river would be restricted.

”We have no choice but to take the western route, trekking up the Danube and then ascending the Seiren River”

”In that case, would you care to stop by my family’s estate on your return? “

Henrietta-san’s family home is in the Viscount Jacquot territory.

I heard it was slightly west of the Danube, so it should be feasible.

”Why is Larry headin’ to Henrietta-san’s family home? “

I hadn’t broken the news of the marriage to Marie yet.

For some reason, her words were a bit sharp.

”I decided that marrying Henrietta-san would be the most prudent choice for our future”

 ”Hoh, is that so? “

Marie slammed her hand against the workbench and rose.

”I thought you were a better lad than this. Buyin’ an Amazoness, and now talkin’ of bigamy…”

She continued to mutter under her breath.

”I feel sick, so I’m headin’ home”

She didn’t even cast a glance at me as she exited.

 ”You’re the worst”

Even Romy added that to me and followed Marie out of the room.

Had I truly committed such a grievous error?

I looked at Henrietta-san, who averted her gaze, looking quite uncomfortable.

 Is that the case?

 Surely I couldn’t abandon her.

Besides, I found Marie’s hostility toward Henrietta-san, whose emotional wounds from Professor Pauman were far from healed, to be entirely uncalled for.

Though, I suppose the fault may lie with me.

Silence settled over the laboratory after they departed.

 ”Are you certain? “

 ”About what”

 ”About Marie”

”There is little I can do. Anything I say to Marie at this juncture would be futile.”

 ”That may be, but”

 Did she feel burdened?

If only Marie and Nico hadn’t insisted on handling everything themselves…….

 ”Larry・Fee・Getys-san”

Just as my headache began to throb, someone knocked and called my name.

I stepped out to find an administrative officer from the Academy carrying a wax-sealed missive.

 ”From whom? “

”It is from Lieutenant Colonel Helbert”

 ”Am I being summoned? “

Henrietta-san looked at me, her expression fraught with worry.

I broke the seal and retrieved the letter.

 ===

To whom it may concern, I trust you are aware that His Majesty the King will be conducting a personal expedition due to the rebellion in Straba Province.

Accordingly, we will prepare a carriage this evening on 7/23, so please go to the Arsenal Bureau and wait there.

 Sincerely,

Royal Army General Staff, Lieutenant Colonel Helbert Augen Sigmund

 ===

 General Staff?

”It does not explicitly order me to join the front, merely to standby at the Arsenal Bureau”

”Then, might you be deployed to the battlefield? “

”Even if I were, I am a military subordinate, not a militiaman. I doubt I will be thrust onto the front lines.”

 Or so I hoped.

Yet, the mission remained entirely opaque.

The airplane constructed in the Old Master’s village used bamboo splints; it couldn’t withstand the thrust of the magic motor and disintegrated during every other test flight.

That said, we lacked synthetic materials like plastics or foams.

”They are coming for me this evening, so I shall begin preparations”

 ”And the Amazoness? “

”I have no choice but to take her. There is no one else to manage her.”

 I hurried with my tasks.

I had given half of the six potent magic magnets (bamboo) I’d recovered at the village to the Arsenal Bureau, but I kept one for my own use.

Additionally, I packed Mana Diodes fashioned from waste Amber and prototypes of Mana NPN Transistors.

They hadn’t undergone stress testing, but their function was verified.

I had been struggling with Mana capacitors, but I was currently recording data while testing various configurations.

My patience for such tedious work was lacking, but Marie possessed a remarkable aptitude for it, despite her personality.

The most stable configuration currently used Amber for the poles and copper as the insulator.

We still needed to finalize the specifications by fine-tuning the surface area and thickness.

 Marie was a true savior.

I intended to test an amplification circuit at the Arsenal Bureau that, theoretically, wouldn’t require a capacitor, so I took only the transistors.

If it worked, my Golem control range would double.

Furthermore, if I modulated it on a high frequency….

The possibilities were endless, provided we finished the grunt work Marie was currently shouldering.

Henrietta-san’s Switched Reluctance Motor was nearly complete as well; I hoped to discuss the magic ship prototype with the Bureau director to get the jump on Professor Pauman.

”I am departing now. I do not know what awaits, but I shall contact you if this drags on. Please give my regards to Marie and Romy”

 ”Understood”

I longed to embrace and kiss her, but my hands were occupied with Kenze’s restraints.

We simply leaned in and brushed our lips together.

”In times like these, should I offer wishes for your safety?”

”It is merely a standby order. I am not entering the field, and I am not going with that mindset.”

 Still.

In these circumstances, shouldn’t the slave be the one carrying the baggage?

Yet, I was the one hauling the heavy crates as I boarded the pitch-black military carriage.

”Couldn’t you have found a more suitable cage”

The Arsenal Bureau possessed no holding cells, only the crude trap I had designed to capture wild boar—the type with a spring-loaded lattice door triggered by bait.

”Consider yourself fortunate that you have enough room to stretch out”

The enclosure was barely longer than her frame and just high enough for her to sit without hitting the top.

Moreover, it was located in my quarters.

I was grateful to even have this much, given the wartime mobilization.

Even upon arrival, I could not locate Director Captain Aslan Gar or Second Lieutenant Sabrina.

”I apologize, the staff is currently unavailable. Please simply wait in your room”

A non-commissioned officer said, looking apologetic as he assembled the cage.

 ”Understood. I have one request”

I requested a human-sized Golem, some Luminous Magic Iron, and a specialized cutting saw.

”I believe I can accommodate that”

 Now then, let us begin.

Thanks to Kenze, this was the first chance I’d had to tinker in a while.

First, I had purchased every cylinder-type stethoscope from the shop before departing the Academy.

I applied glue to a parchment membrane and affixed a sliver of magic magnet (bamboo) to the center.

A coil of magic thread around it.

I pressed the stethoscope to my ear and connected a Mana pressure gauge to the magic thread extending from the coil.

Then, I turned my focus toward the synchronized Golem and directed it to move its arm.

The needle on the pressure gauge flickered.

 Success!

I had captured the control Mana in the circuit, just as predicted.

 Now…….

 ”Hey”

”Quiet, I am in the middle of something important.”

 ”Hey”

”What is it? You are being a nuisance.”

 ”I’m hungry.”

Chapter illustration

Kenze was clutching the iron bars of the cage.

It occurred to me that the Arsenal Bureau had grown unusually quiet; I had been so engrossed in my work that I’d forgotten to eat.

”My apologies. I will fetch us something as soon as I finish this.”

 ”Hey, knock it off already.”

 Damn it.

I had said I’d finish this part, but I had accidentally continued further.

”Oh, apologies. I am coming now.”

I organized the Luminous Magic Iron segments and rose from my seat.

The Dining Hall was straight to the right.

In the darkness after lights out, I proceeded, relying on a portable low-wattage lamp.

Naturally, the Dining Hall was closed, and it had even been carefully locked up.

With no other choice, I wandered for a while, but the sections where noises could be heard were locked and inaccessible.

 ”Food?” I asked.

”The Dining Hall was locked tight,” she muttered.1

 ”And?”

 ”I just came back.”

”Haa, what are you doin’? It might be fun for you, but put yourself in my shoes, the hell!” Kenze snapped.

”My bad. I’ll get some first thing tomorrow morning, so just bear with it.”

”Tomorrow morning? What am I supposed to do if I die of hunger?”

”Didn’t you say ‘kill me’ or something earlier today? You won’t die from missing a single meal.”

”That and this are different. Food, food, food!”

 This girl is annoying.

 Ah.

Come to think of it, I had bought a souvenir for Second Lieutenant Sabrina.

I rummaged through my bag and found a cookie in a bag.

 ”Is this okay?”

”What the hell is that? Anything is fine, let me eat!”

 ”You’re a greedy one, aren’t you? Here.”

When I placed a few cookies on the palm she reached out from the cage, she ate them as if stuffing her cheeks.

”Is it because you have so much muscle that you’re so hungry?”

”That’s unrelated. The egg has dropped into the uterus, and it is takin’ the nutrients.”

”Eh, isn’t it a full moon night?”

”There’s no reason it has to be that way. Let’s do it tomorrow night, the hell!”

That’s quite a statement from someone whose life is currently in my hands.

”If we do it, will you lay an egg?”

”From what I’ve heard, it seems it is laid in about an hour.”

”What, you’ve never laid one before?”

”There are those who lay them without doin’ it, but I have never laid one.”

”Then, do you build a nest or something? What about the materials?”

”I want a jar with clean water in it.”

She indicated a size of about thirty centimeters in height with her hand.

”And, what happens if we don’t do it?”

 ”My body will absorb it.”

I had heard that sometimes, even in humans, one twin is absorbed into the uterus.

”A jar of about this size with clean water in it is all you need, right?”

”That’s right. The moisture in my mouth was taken by the cookie. Water!”

She is a Slave with so many demands.

The well was next to the Dining Hall from earlier.

Kenze drank the water and then lay down and fell asleep.

I also worked on my project for a while, but I went to bed just as the sky was beginning to turn white.

 ”Oi!”

”What is it? Let me sleep a little longer.”

 ”Oi!”

”Is it food again? I’ll bring some, so let me sleep a little longer.”

 ”No, there is a guest.”

When I sat up, I could indeed hear knocking.

 ”It’s open.”

I was sleeping in my clothes, so it was not a problem.

”Excuse me, the Chief is calling for you.”

It was the non-commissioned officer who had brought me the Luminous Magic Iron and such yesterday.

”Come back quickly. I need to take a crap,” Kenze muttered.

She is a very unsexy female slave.

When I followed the non-commissioned officer to the Chief’s office, the Chief and Second Lieutenant Sabrina were waiting.

”Good morning,” I said, offering a salute.

 ”Good work,” the Chief replied.

The Chief seemed to be acting important, so I looked at his rank insignia and saw that he had been promoted from Captain to Major.

 ”Have you been promoted, sir?”

 ”Indeed. A necessary advancement.”

He was grinning so much it hurt to watch.

Well, he is a Dwarf, but he’s getting on in years.

”Let’s get straight to the point. How long will it take to put that ‘airplane’ thing into actual combat?”

 As I thought, it’s that.

”There are three primary issues. First, because it’s built with bamboo strips, the airframe cannot keep up with the thrust of the motor and will disintegrate in mid-air. Second, there is a risk that it will be imitated if it crashes, so it is necessary to install a self-destruct device. Third, it won’t be useful for reconnaissance unless I can increase its operational range and altitude.”

”Understood. Proceed with the necessary countermeasures,” the Major directed.

When I explained all the countermeasures, he asked about the necessary personnel, materials, and time, so I asked about the personnel and expertise they could provide, and answered one and a half months.

”Can’t you somehow do it in half that time?”

”Are you attempting to synchronize with the current campaign?”

”His Majesty is expecting it. The next battlefield is mountainous. Reconnaissance from the sky would provide a decisive advantage.”

Who talked about the unfinished airplane?

That was a troublesome thing for them to do.

”How long do you expect the campaign to last?”

”His Majesty estimates three months; the Lieutenant Colonel suggests six.”

I don’t know the finances of this country, but I wonder how much the war costs will be if the Royal Army is engaged for six months.

Soldiers are full-time, so even if they increase, it would only be double, but the amount of money spent on logistics is no joke.

”If the war lasts for half a year, won’t the national treasury suffer?”

”The treasury is currently solvent, though long-term costs are uncertain. Furthermore, there are reports of Mercenaries from the Empire of Rus entering Kiridal territory.”

 ”A two-front war?”

”Affirmative. Therefore, we may strike the capital, Sophis.”

It seems the mountainous region is just a sideshow; they plan to swallow the whole of Kiridal.

”Understood. We require the airplanes operational as soon as possible.”

So that’s how it is, this is going to be tough.

Certainly, if you use airplanes for reconnaissance in mountainous terrain, you can be at an overwhelming advantage.

If I’m not careful, Barsheni Village might be exposed to the ravages of war.

Ed and Rudy are students, but it wouldn’t be strange if they were called up in some cases.

I have to do my best.

”Considering the deployment, what is the required number of units?”

”Ten, including reserves, should be sufficient.”

 That sounds rather vague.

”Regarding flight tests, I will conduct them here, as the Old Master’s village is too distant.”

 ”Proceed.”

 The answer I expected.

 Then shall we begin?

”Second Lieutenant Sabrina, provide him with full assistance.”

 ”Understood, sir,” she replied.

She finished the conversation with a standing salute.

”Sir, could you authorize a team dedicated exclusively to this project?”

 ”Exclusively? Is that required?”

”Yes. It is a complex undertaking.”

”Understood. We will convene in one hour in the Dining Hall.”

I asked them to prepare the airplane I had here and a blackboard, and then I went back to my room.

”I thought I was gonna leak, the hell!”

I took Kenze to the men’s restroom to let her relieve herself.

Of course, there were male Soldiers there, so they were startled, but it couldn’t be helped.

There was no way I could go into the women’s restroom.

 That day, five people gathered.

Among them was a metal specialist in his forties who was involved with ball bearings, but the others were young, in their twenties.

I accepted it positively, thinking that their minds would be flexible.

However, they completely looked down on me, a teenager.

The gaze that seemed to say they were only following orders because Second Lieutenant Sabrina was there was painful.

”I will show you the prototype I am about to build.”

I showed them the airplane made of bamboo strips, attached a string to the tail, and flew it indoors.

Since no one other than myself and Second Lieutenant Sabrina had ever seen a rickety airplane flying by spinning a Bamboo dragonfly propeller, they were quite surprised.

 The hook is secure.

The gazes that were looking down on me softened a little.

From there, while disassembling the rickety airplane, I explained how it flies.

However, I don’t know anything about aerodynamics, so I only talked about the lift of the wings.

Everything else is trial and error.

 And the prerequisites.

 The period is three weeks.

The number to be built is ten.

Control at twice the distance of regular Golems.

”Now, I will list the work.”

By this time, they had started to think positively little by little, and things I hadn’t expected started to come up.

”Next, I will make a time table.”

I had them make a Gantt chart of when to start and finish the work we had identified.

By doing this, I can make them voluntarily work overtime on things that couldn’t be done in time.

Finally, I had them divide into two groups with Second Lieutenant Sabrina joining in, to do a small group discussion on whether there were any flaws and how to divide the people.

With this, the backbone of the project was completed.

As soon as they started moving, I had forgotten Kenze’s meal.

”You, you didn’t bring my meal on purpose, did ya, the hell?”

”Nothing of the sort. The meeting just dragged on.”

This conversation has reached the point where you can’t tell who is the slave.

However, I can’t be sayin’ things like that.

The project had begun, and after I ate my meal, I headed to the woodwork room with the metal specialist to choose the materials for the propellers and airframe.

Of the remaining four, two went to consult with the military academy’s explosives specialist about the self-destruct device, and two were working on making the motor.

I received their individual reports quite some time after having dinner.

 ”You’re late,” Kenze muttered.

When I brought dinner, the jar she had requested was ready.

 ”What are ya gonna do?”

 ”What?”

”Are ya gonna do it through the cage? I don’t mind, though.”

Come to think of it, Professor Karl said it might be okay to take away her consciousness and do it.

 ”Shall we do it outside?”

”I would be happier with that.”

”Hey, is it okay if I take away your consciousness?”

 ”That would not be fun.”

 Well, I suppose so.

Whether I do it through the cage or outside, if it comes down to it, I have to take away her consciousness, so if she says outside is better, that’s fine too.

Kenze took off her tunic inside the cage, and when she came out, I put a collar on her just in case.

Even so, she has a sexy body.

When I pulled that body close and overlapped our lips, a scent I had never smelled before dominated my nasal cavity.

 ”Fufu, it’s gettin’ big.”

She grabbed me over my underwear.

”I have no expectations; your friend was a premature ejaculator, after all.”

”Hmph, don’t put me in the same category as Rudy.”

When I wrapped her breasts with my hands, they were firm, or rather, too firm.

Is it because the mammary glands are developed, just as the professor said?

”Don’t rub too hard; they are painful because they are swollen in preparation for breast milk.”

 ”Oh, right.”

I answered that way, but it had been since Teressa that I had dealt with breast milk.

When I strongly sucked on the n**ple that was half-inverted, lukewarm liquid flowed into my mouth.

 Her reaction was also good.

After confirming each other’s bodies while standing, I took her to the bed and started again from a kiss.

When I reached for her lower abdomen, her clitoris was surprisingly large, and when I pinched it, she raised her voice and mucus overflowed.

 ”Put it in.”

”Please put it in, say that.”

 ”You pervert, the hell!”

She is a troublesome one; for now, I proceeded ahead and slowly inserted my finger.

 Wow.

It was truly as narrow as the rumors said.

Just like a Virgin, it would be impossible if it wasn’t one finger at a time.

Not like Rudy, but I might accidentally e**culate prematurely.

However, I’m starting to lose my self-control too.

Changing our positions, I opened Kenze’s knees to the left and right.

In the moonlight leaking in, her naked body stood out.

 Now then.

 I’ll take it.
