Volume 2 Chapter 54 Reincarnation

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Henrietta-san’s funeral was held three days after her passing. It took place at the common cemetery on the north side of the Royal Capital, a joint ceremony for a total of six individuals—students, researchers, and staff—who had lost their lives at the Academy that same day.

Among those in attendance were Henrietta-san’s parents, who had rushed over to celebrate the news of her marriage after receiving her letter. Their daughter, having passed her prime, had finally reported her engagement. The handmade pure white wedding dress they had brought with such joy became her burial shroud. The design was a Gothic Lolita style, reflecting her own tastes.

My chest tightened as I looked at her, lying in the coffin in her funeral makeup.

If only Kenze and I hadn’t left the Dining Hall at that moment. If only we had simply stayed put at the Arsenal Bureau. I had forced us to go, and in the end, I had only succeeded in getting Henrietta-san killed.

No matter how much I regret it, she will never come back.

”Are you lost in those foolish thoughts again?”

Pamela, now without a master, nudges me. As I sort through Henrietta-san’s belongings, unable to stop my tears, this Elf Mage scolds me time and time again, insisting that Henrietta-san’s death was inevitable and not my fault. She was Henrietta-san’s slave, and after discussions with her parents, it was decided—with the deceased’s own wishes in mind—that I would take her in. Usually, she wears white Gothic Lolita, but today she is dressed in black.

Only her parents, myself, Pamela, and Romy are here to attend for Henrietta-san. Marie is hospitalized, recovering from childbirth. Kenze remains unable to leave the side of the child confined to the urn.

When Henrietta-san died, it seems two of Darina’s classmates who were gathered there were killed on the spot. To prevent rebellion, that former Principal reportedly had the students brought out from the group one by one, stripped of their shirts, and then beheaded. They were both from the Duke’s territory, close friends, and were buried side-by-side. Darina is attending the service near their graves.

Though it is August, the air here is not particularly hot. The humidity is low, leaving one only slightly damp with sweat.

After listening to the pastor’s sermon for about an hour out in the open, we sang hymns, lowered the casket into the pre-dug hole ourselves, and covered it with a token amount of dirt. Following another short sermon and one more hymn, the funeral ended.

The contractors would take care of the rest, I was told.

The funeral and tombstone costs amounted to one gold coin. At the request of her parents, and in order to enter my current surname onto the gravestone, I filed both the marriage registration and the death certificate simultaneously.

 August 6th, Continental Calendar 4001

Henrietta Schmidt Getys, Human, Age 26

Former Research Student at the Royal Magic Academy

 Origin: Viscount Jacquot Territory, Ulrich

That is all that is carved into the tombstone.

”My grandfather was the author of Legend of the Sky Heroes, the Rhein von Schmidt. He adored Henrietta when she was small. She must have loved it; ever since she was a child, she always said she wanted to become a famous writer herself.”

Until my father-in-law told me that, I had known nothing of the sort.

In a world without movable type, I had no idea the work had become such a bestseller through handwritten copies. I have read it myself, and my sister-in-law especially loves it. If only Henrietta-san were alive to see how happy that would have made her.

They told me to come visit whenever I am nearby, as they have come to think of me as a son, and the next morning, they returned home to Ulrich.

The rebellion in the Royal Capital triggered by Marquis Harritz was suppressed in a single day. The sequence of events was as follows:

On the morning of the incident, a band of about five hundred armed men broke through the eastern checkpoint on the outer rim of the Royal Capital. They advanced while setting fire to and looting the surrounding houses, reaching the ports in the southern and southeastern sectors before nightfall.

Early that morning, the Crown Prince had entered the Kingdom Office accompanied by Marquis Harritz. Conflict broke out between the Kingdom Office guards and the private soldiers of Marquis Harritz and his allied nobles. By the morning, the numerically superior noble faction had occupied key departments, and by evening, they held effective control of the Kingdom Office.

 However.

At nightfall, Golems suddenly destroyed the room containing the Crown Prince and Marquis Harritz from the outside. They then proceeded to harass the terrified group, effectively chasing them out of the castle. It was a sadistic act, characteristic of Major Sonya.

As if in response, three thousand troops from the Third Division, stationed north of the castle, began to move. Some of them entered the Kingdom Office, ousted the noble faction’s guards, and defeated the forces that had occupied important surrounding facilities.

The armed groups that had occupied the harbor and the noble faction members inside the Kingdom Office attempted to flee by ship, but many were capsized and destroyed by the Golems of the Magic Armored Division. Approximately one-third of the soldiers drowned.

The death toll among the noble faction, including Marquis Harritz’s guards, exceeded three hundred, and four hundred were captured. The Crown Prince was secured and imprisoned before he could escape the Kingdom Office. Marquis Harritz and eight other nobles were also detained.

The death toll in the Royal Capital, including civilians, reached eighty-five, with over one hundred and fifty homes completely or partially destroyed.

The rebellion in Straba Province saw the arrival of aircraft and pilots, breaking the stalemate, but it was not until September that a declaration of suppression was issued, as some rebels had entered the mines to hold their ground.

By the way, the castle in the Marquis Harritz territory was taken by Lieutenant Michel Debritz, the son of the Bours from Strock Village. He seized it in a single day alongside the Fourth Company of the former Golems Battalion—his wife (Christina Meinecke Debritz)’s old unit. The castle had been defended by Eric von Harritz, a Colonel in the Royal Army and the father of the Marquis who had abducted Nico. In the subsequent trial, he was sentenced to death, and his son was sold into slavery.

And so, I remained in a state of depression. Even though Henrietta-san’s funeral was over and I had returned to the Arsenal Bureau, I had no will to do anything and spent my days sleeping.

Seeing this, the Chief of the Arsenal Bureau ordered me to go to the “Old Master’s Village.” I was to take Kenze and Pamela with me.

Although both are officially slaves, their attitudes are hardly that of slaves.

”You are so pathetic. It is because you keep wallowing in this, isn’t it?”

 Pamela nudges me.

”Don’t say such things to him. He’s just an idiot.”

That was their response when I told them the “Old Master’s Village” was deep in the mountains. Usually, I would have yelled at them for being annoying, but right now, I didn’t even have the energy for that.

It took half a day to reach the village, where Master Sergei greeted us.

”Ho, so this girl is the rumored Amazoness?”

His eyes lit up the moment he saw Kenze. She was wearing an erotic poncho, and her physique was perhaps enticing, but if I recall, the Master had a wife and daughter. I’d hate to see the chaos if he tried anything.

”How about it? Care to train with me? I’d like to spar as well.”

 (That muscle-brained fool—that’s what he’s interested in?)

”Well then, starting tomorrow morning, we follow the usual routine. Larry-kun.”

Does that mean a 5:00 AM wake-up call? Straightening the bedding, roll call, cleaning, emptying the latrines, then a fast-paced run starting at 6:00? Do I have to make breakfast with the prepared ingredients and have everything cleaned up by 8:30?

I could just leave the bedding, cleaning, latrines, and cooking to the two slaves, right?

That line of reasoning didn’t quite get through to the muscle-brained Master.

In the end, however, it was for the best. Being forced to move my body brought my energy back, day by day. It seems I hadn’t been suffering from clinical depression after all.

By the third day, I began testing the signal transmission of Mana in the form of radio waves. If I could succeed, I wouldn’t just be able to fly planes within a narrow five-hundred-meter radius, but for kilometers—as long as the Amber held out. In my head, I was already envisioning the possibility of two-way communication, like a walkie-talkie.

A week later, while I was watching the daily “entertainment”—a sparring match between the Master and Kenze—a man approached. Their abilities were evenly matched, and it was gripping to watch. The speed of their punches and kicks was clearly different from anyone else’s, and their forms were subtly unique. People would even take breaks from farm work just to watch them.

”Ho, so that child is the Amazoness, is she?”

I turned to see a nasty-looking old man who, at first glance, might pass for a kindly grandfather.

 (Damn. The Fourth Sage.)

 ”Why are you here?”

”No need to be so cold. I’ve come because I wanted to consult with you on something.”

(Consult? This could only mean bad news.)

”That’s right. I brought this along. If you’re in that body, you should be able to handle a high-proof drink.”

The Fourth Sage pulled out a small earthen pot—the kind you’d see a drunken samurai carrying in a period drama.

 ”What is it?”

”Three-year-old barley shochu. Tell me, isn’t this extremely rare in this world?”

In the first place, distilled liquor shouldn’t be aged like wine. Still, I had been craving something with a higher alcohol content.

 ”Well… thank you.”

As I reached out, he deftly pulled it back.

”But first, will you hear me out?”

 ”Fine. If it’s just listening.”

 ”Excellent. Let’s talk outside.”

Even if not to the extent of Japan, the midsummer sun is harsh here. We stepped into the Dining Hall of the quarters where we were staying.

 ”Ho, silver tumblers. Quite luxurious.”

Finding the guest tumblers used for ale, the old man grabbed two and poured a little of the barley shochu into each.

 ”Cheers.”

I took a small sip. Whether it was delicious or smelled of barley didn’t matter; what I really wanted was ice.

”So? It brings back memories, doesn’t it?”

 ”Yes, I suppose.”

(What is this old man plotting?)

”You look guarded. I’ll be frank.”

 I appreciate that.

”You know that I’m trying to build a navy, right?”

I had heard of it, so I nodded.

”The thing is, I need a power source for the warships.”

”It’s impossible. Small boats are one thing, but there is no technology here to prevent seawater from leaking through the screw shaft on a large vessel,” I said, cutting the Fourth Sage off as I took another sip of shochu.

”I’ve lived in this world longer than you, so I’m well aware of that.”

 ”Then what is it?”

”You were from Hyogo Prefecture, weren’t you? If so, you must know about the Yamato 1 on display at Meriken Park in Kobe, right?”

”Yes, though it’s been removed now. It used superconducting propulsion, right? Don’t tell me you want me to build that.”

 ”Removed? That’s a shame.”

 (That’s what he’s focused on?)

”No, well, I can only think of sail-powered warships in this world, but I was wondering if there wasn’t some kind of ‘booster’ to give us an edge over other nations.”

”Can’t you use oars, like a galley?”

”If we did that, we’d have to carry enough food for the rowers. We couldn’t sail for months at a time, could we?”

(Just how far are you planning to go to war?)

”With electromagnetic induction, there are no moving parts, so there’s little risk of it breaking, right?”

”How do you plan to generate enough Mana to move a ship? That’s not the same thing as powering Golems, is it?”

 ”You’re making capacitors, right?”

He wore a look of smug triumph.

”Then surely you can make a high-capacity capacitor, too? Like I said earlier, you need one for the booster.”

A high-capacity capacitor—a device for storing static electricity, much like a standard capacitor. The difference, unlike a battery, is its ability to discharge a massive amount of energy rapidly. It’s the kind of thing used in hybrid vehicles back home.

”Small capacitors and high-capacity ones require different materials, you know.”

”But you can make them, right? You’ve already managed the small ones.”

I mean, I had thought it would be nice to have, and certainly, I’d planned to make one eventually, but the way he was pushing it felt intrusive.

”I have other things on my plate. It’ll be a while.”

”Fair enough. Just have it ready by the time you go to New Continent.”

This old guy… was he still dead-set on sending me to New Continent? Give it a rest and get senile already.

I reflexively downed the barley shochu1 in my tumbler.

”That’s a fine way to drink. Come on, another.”

The old man poured, the liquid gurgling into the glass.

”This is exactly why I recommended you.”

 ”Recommended? Me?”

I hoped it wasn’t one of those bizarre ‘Special Recommendations.’

”It was the day before yesterday—no, three days ago. I met with the Academy President. Recommended you for the position of Fire Safety Officer for the fourth floor, where your Laboratory is located.”

I had no idea what he was talking about. Do you need a recommendation to be a fire safety officer?

”And with that, you’ll be taking on teaching duties starting in September.”

I must be drunk. Nothing this old geezer says is making sense.

”Professor Pauman passed away, so the floor oversight is vacant. Your Laboratory is on that floor, after all.”

Oh, so that’s it. If it’s for that, I guess it makes sense.

 Wait. No.

”You said something about ‘teaching duties’?”

”Indeed. You’re a Fire Safety Officer with the status of Associate Professor. We can’t just scrap the Simple-type Magic Tool lecture, can we? That’s why you’re taking the course.”

”Teaching… you mean I have to lecture?”

”I’m not sure how else one would interpret that.”

This old man is definitely jerking me around. I grabbed the shochu and took another sharp gulp.

 ”I’m a student, for god’s sake.”

”Until the day before yesterday, yes. Come on, let me pour you another.”

What? Again with the incomprehensible nonsense.

”You skipped every single class, didn’t you? You were expelled for poor academic conduct.”

”Expelled? I’ve already been held back a year, so I just stopped going. Besides, the Arsenal Bureau has been keeping me busy. Expelling me? That’s the height of Academy arrogance.”

I’m a little buzzed. This stuff is strong.

”Well, you didn’t attend, so it was inevitable. The judgment of poor conduct holds. But don’t worry—you’ve been hired by the Academy as a Professor.”

 ”Hired? Pre-sh-ooor…”

”Exactly. You’re a member of the working world now. By the way, are you drunk? You’re slurring your words.”

”Not drunk. When did I become a salaryman?”

”I told you, you were expelled two days ago, so you started yesterday. Didn’t you hear? The faculty board will deliberate on your professorship at the end of August, but you’re still young. Associate Professor, I expect. Oh, and Professor Hoffman on the third floor retired too. We’re reviewing Amanda Möller as his replacement. Apparently, she’s a total beauty, but she’s a married woman, so hands off.”

”Women? I’m done with them. Selfish, noisy, they die on you in a heartbeat. Bastards.”

 ”Yeah, you’re definitely wasted.”

As my consciousness faded into a blur, I remember Sage setting down the shochu bottle and heading out of the Dining Hall.

”Are you drunk in the middle of the day, you idiot?”

”He’s a lost cause. We’ll have to carry him to his room.”

Kenze and Pamela’s voices floated toward me, and they hauled me off to my quarters.

”Hey, Kenze… sounds like I got kicked out of the Academy.”

 ”You’re a moron, that’s why.”

She’s always so blunt. A true Amazoness.

”Dammit, don’t call me a moron. As punishment, let me fuck you.”

I grabbed her from behind, kneading her breasts. She didn’t resist.

 ”Fool. Pamela is watching.”

 Is she embarrassed?

”Pamela? Alright, Pamela, let’s do this together. Come here.”

”Oh? You don’t mind? It’s been decades since I’ve been with a man.”

”Can you even do it, being this drunk? You’re completely limp down there.”

”Leave it to me. I’ll stimulate him from the inside. A man will get hard no matter what.”

”Stop! Don’t stick your finger in my anus!”

(Exercise + Alcohol + Sex => My consciousness connects to the body I had in my previous life. Even with the connection, that body is occupied by the Larry who was in this world, so I can’t control it.)

’What, you still playing eroge? You’re married now, right?’

’Hey, you, why didn’t you come sooner?’

He seemed annoyed the moment I arrived.

’Well, you got married, so I thought it would be bad to interfere.’

’That may be, but come here for a second.’

Even if he says ‘come here,’ you are using this body, so I can’t operate it. Larry, in my body, quietly opened the bedroom door.

There lay his wife in the double bed, and next to it, a crib. Larry peeked inside.

’So cute. Your child, or… wait, is it mine? What’s the name?’

’Idiot, she’s my daughter. Her name is Cocoa, after the love in my heart. She was two months premature, so she’s still small. Never mind that. Just wait a second.’

When I touched the baby’s hand with my finger, she grabbed back unconsciously.

 ’Wait, what? What’s going on?’

Is the baby surprised? And in Telepathy, this consciousness is…

 ’Henrietta-san?’

An incredibly hot sensation welled up inside me.

’Is that you, Larry? No way, really?’

’Thank god, your consciousness remained. You reincarnated into the world I came from.’

’It’s not “thank god” at all!’

Someone really has to spoil a touching moment.

’This woman is parasitizing my daughter, you know. Just like you used to.’

’Well, maybe, but she’s a precious person to me.’

’I don’t care about that. Just like you and me, I hope my daughter doesn’t end up going to where you are. If your woman takes over my daughter’s body, that would be the worst.’

 ’Well, who’s to say?’

’”Who’s to say,” my ass. Do something about it. Look what you’ve done to my daughter. Besides, I heard Henrietta is a Gothic Lolita pervert.’

Henrietta-san seemed to say, “My, how terrible,” but she didn’t deny it.

’But hey, she’s the great-granddaughter of Rhein von Schmidt, who wrote “Legend of the Sky Heroes.” She has the potential to become a famous Light Novel writer in the future. Just overlook it.’

’How would I know? A high school girl forced to reincarnate into an R18 world, ignoring the all-ages rating, is probably the limit of it, right?’

 That might actually be possible.

’Anyway, do something about it. I don’t want my daughter to follow in my footsteps. Use summoning or whatever, and take responsibility for your woman.’

Even if he says that to me…

 ”What’s wrong, dear?”

”I just wanted to see Cocoa’s face for a moment.”

”My, what a doting father you are.”

As they talked, the baby woke up, and Henrietta-san’s consciousness faded away.

 ’Well, I’m going back, then.’

 ’Do something about it, seriously.’

I can’t promise that, even if he says so. But I was reunited with Henrietta-san. She had reincarnated.

Henrietta-san’s original body died and was buried. Which means she can’t return to the original body.

My consciousness and Larry’s swapped bodies and we are living in our respective worlds, but it means we can’t do that.

Cocoa, or his daughter, can’t swap bodies with Henrietta-san. That’s a problem, isn’t it?

When I woke up, it was completely dark all around.

The next day, while eating breakfast, I asked the long-lived Pamela about summoning.

”It’s a legend, but I believe there is a ritual for summoning.”

”Do you not know? You really have no common sense.”

Kenze seems to know about it, too.

”Where should I go to get summoned?”

”More importantly, why are you asking about summoning?”

I told Pamela and Kenze that I had reincarnated from another world, and that Henrietta was parasitizing a child in the world I used to live in.

”I see. I would like to meet Henrietta as well, but only an Androgynos can perform the summoning.”

Androgynos. I’ve heard of it. I heard about it from Bours-san during the Militia drilling. It means an intersex person.

”Where can I go to meet an Androgynos?”

”According to tradition, they live in the Al Island Chain, which is a one-month voyage by ship southeast of this continent where the main branch of the Amazoness resides. From there, it’s another month east by ship.”

”I heard it’s two months by ship to the southeast from the eastern tip of the continent, and you can only go when the summer waves are calm.”

From Kenze and Pamela’s stories, it seems that the Androgynos tribe lives on far-off islands and they perform summoning regularly.

So, I have to go on a sea voyage.

The face of the Fourth Sage suddenly came to mind. Come to think of it, he said to experiment with moving a ship using a magnetic field of Mana.

I’ll use that ship to go to the Androgynos islands.

I can’t help but feel that this is a path laid out by someone. But there is no other way.

 I thought.

With this, I will end the second chapter, “Student Life,” of “I’m Serious Even After Reincarnating into Another World (Temp).” It became a long story of fifty-three episodes, much longer than planned. Thank you for staying with me this far.

After taking a break for about a month, I plan to post the next third chapter. By the way, it is planned to be completed in five chapters, and the period is planned to be about a year. If you don’t mind, please continue to join me.

* * *

There are no cicadas chirping in the summer here. In the bright, scorching sunlight, five shadows drink tea in the shade of a tree.

 ”It’s hot, isn’t it?”

”Truly, it’s hard on us old folks.”

”I feel like I’m going to melt just like this.”

Then, a young female Soldier came to deliver a letter.

 ”From whom is it?”

”Look, it’s from that boy who crossed the river with us during the Haritz turmoil.”

 ”Ho, so that lad survived.”

The old woman who received it broke the wax seal and opened it inside.

Dear Elders, I hope you are all well during this late summer season.

During the recent turmoil, thank you for protecting me through your selfless work.

Thanks to you, I was able to become a father to a daughter in that place.

A first son was also born in the countryside, and I have decided to live with self-awareness as a father of two children from now on.

Therefore, I have written this letter to express my gratitude.

I really appreciate your great help at that time, and thank you very much.

Hot days continue, but please do not push yourselves and take care of your health.

 Sincerely,

To all the veteran members of the Magic Armored Division Magic cannon squad,

 September 1st, Continental Calendar 4001

Royal Magic Academy Associate Professor Larry Fee Getys

”If he calls us ‘Elders’, I might just fall for him.”

”What is that old hag getting all worked up for?”

”It’s all dried up down there, she couldn’t even fit a finger in.”

”Ho, a father of two at that young age? He had a cute face, but he was getting things done.”

”No, no, he had quite the lecherous look on his face.”

”That boy is sure to have trouble with women.”

”Ho, ‘take care of your health’, he says.”

”And after we narrowly avoided death again, too.”

”I would have been satisfied dying on the battlefield, but young people don’t understand that.”

For a short while after that,

the old hags’ laughter gently wrapped around the wind-rustling shade of the summer trees.

Notes:

• Henrietta – Late wife of Larry and deceased Royal Magic Academy research student whose displaced consciousness became a parasite inside her daughter’s body. Eager for Larry’s return, she was the former owner of the slave Pamela, who uses her distinct scent and traits to identify mana sensitivity. Known for her degenerate or perverted nature, she died post-rebellion but remains a central point of reference.

• Kenze – An exceptionally powerful Amazoness slave, former intelligence officer, and protagonist’s companion, she has short dark hair and a muscular physique. Direct, foul-mouthed, and stoic, she shares a bed with Pamela and maintains a complex romantic relationship with Larry, whom she once tried to kill but now protects. Wearing a white blouse and slit skirt, she follows Larry to raise her offspring.

• Pamela – A sharp-tongued Elven Mage with distinctive pointed ears, she wears white Gothic Lolita fashion with a lace bonnet-like cap. Formerly Henrietta’s slave, she became Larry’s companion and worker as an inheritance keepsake. Intensely curious, she loyally charges Amber for Larry and makes “night-visits” to investigate mana potential.

• Marie – Larry’s blunt, sharp-tongued wife is a Magic Academy student and lab employee from the protagonist’s hometown. Currently on maternity leave at the postpartum rest facility she manages, she is the mother of their daughter, Ange. Despite her marriage, she shares a close, affectionate relationship with the protagonist, who previously loved her and assigned her a separate task.

• Romy – A student researcher at the Academy under Larry’s care, she lacks raw ability but is brought along by the protagonist for a research task, appearing as their companion at a funeral. Within the laboratory group, her name is on blueprints for Mana-charging designs. She noticeably reacts to Larry’s stutter, reflecting her relationships with her mentor and peers.

• Mar – A battle‑hardened veteran, clad in worn armor, uses door panels as shields and captures enemy crossbows; Larry’s comrade who teases him about his sister‑in‑law’s pampering, known as Martin to his companion Edmond.

• Harritz – A territory associated with the protagonist’s classmates.

• Marquis – An elderly nobleman with a volatile temper. His face turns beet-red when insulted, and he is quick to abandon formal deliberation in favor of a violent resolution via duel.

• Ho – Ho, a comrade of the protagonist. A member of the military unit that defended Garao Village and was slaughtered alongside Marx-san.

• Major – A commanding military officer with a sadistic inclination toward interrogation. She orchestrates the sessions and utilizes Telepathy to coordinate with her subordinates.

Equal in age to Rosa, this cynical, pragmatic dueling champion balances intense administrative and Arsenal Bureau duties with secret magical development, designing circuits and drones. Debt-ridden and isolated, he masks his anxiety with an abrasive wit, protects his partners, and maintains an unconventional household estate while consistently annoyed by the protagonist’s attempts to contact him.
