Volume 3 Chapter 44 National Revival
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”If I keep having s*x like this, won’t I end up a vegetable before I’m twenty?”
I thought this, coming out of the ‘Sage Time,’ looking at Pamela and Kenze sleeping in front of me with their legs sprawled out.
I glanced over and saw Elena wrapped in a blanket, peeking at me through a gap.
”She was watchin’ us, was she?” I muttered to myself.
Utterly drained, stripped of the energy to think or even move a muscle, I just collapsed face-down on the carpet right next to the two naked women and fell asleep.
”Kyaaa!”
A young woman’s scream made me open my eyes, and I saw Merchant’s employees in maid outfits running out of the room with looks of utter shock.
”So noisy…” I groaned.
When I tried to shift over, I realized something.
The carpet was drenched in the fluid we’d been leaking.
Most of it was likely incontinence rather than the women’s climax, with my own murky discharge drying into it.
The maids came back, stomping, bringing people with them, and towels were hurled at us.
”Just what do you think you’re doing? Do you have any idea how much this carpet costs? Why couldn’t you do it in the bedroom? This is why you savages—” the head maid barked, her voice sharp with disdain.
Some nerve.
Admittedly, hand-woven carpets were eye-wateringly expensive in my past life, but is it the same here?
I had no choice. I used the tossed-at-me towel to cover myself and headed to the bedroom, where the Instructor and Olga were sleeping naked in the same bed.
We just thought we shouldn’t disturb those two.
Maybe we overdid it.
Elena, having been kicked out too, entered the bedroom with bloodshot eyes, staring at us as she crawled into the empty bed.
”I have brought hot water; please use this to wipe yourselves down,” she whispered, her voice weary.
No matter how reckless we were, they were at least treating us as guests.
”What happened?”
Kenze, despite being from the warrior tribe of the Amazoness, was rubbing her eyes, oblivious to the situation as she asked no one in particular.
”Here, y’all best use this to wipe off,” I said, my voice heavy with exhaustion.
I tossed her a towel soaked in hot water and wrung out, and Pamela reached out, saying, “I reckon I need one too.”
I couldn’t help it; I wrung out another one and handed it over.
”You’re actually pretty good at it, aren’t you? That spirited… ‘business’ earlier,” I remarked with a dry chuckle.
Because there was nowhere to do it while traveling, we’d only been doing it from behind.
I’d just let myself go, but doing something as idiotic as that really does feel like it’ll rot your brain. I’ll restrain myself from now on.
And then, around 9:00 AM.
”Could you please, finally, get up? I need to clear the breakfast service,” the maid sighed, looking thoroughly fed up.
It seems we’re just getting scolded by the inn staff.
I got dressed and sat at the dining table to find white flour bread, sausage soup, and sauerkraut.
It felt somewhat like we were entering the Schweilitz food culture sphere, which brought back a wave of nostalgia.
Then, the elderly maid who had been overseeing the carpet removal approached us.
”I have something to convey to everyone,” she announced, her tone stiff and bureaucratic.
”Director Mailer of the Military Police has issued an order: to avoid unnecessary confusion, you are not to leave the inn. Furthermore, by messenger from the Royal Capital’s forward base, Marshal Yan and Chief of Staff Helbert are scheduled to arrive here this afternoon, and they wish to hold a meeting with FeeGrand Duke immediately upon arrival. Please be in formal attire once lunch is over.”
”Yes, yes,” I replied, feeling like a kid getting talked down to.
”A single ‘yes’ will suffice,” she snapped.
What is this, am I some underperforming junior high student?
Fine, whatever. But I asked this middle-aged lady about what kind of person this Marshal Yan was.
”Her father was a former General of Larland who fought bravely against the Empire of Rus until the very end. When the Rus management of Larland collapsed, she gathered her allies and established a stronghold in the south, and she holds the most power among all the warlords.”
”If her father was a former General of the old Larland, is she still young?”
”No, I believe she is over fifty.”
However, she has no successor.
”I hear that often. We don’t know why either. I have heard rumors that it was the dying wish of her father, the former General, but that is only a rumor.”
Perhaps the lack of a successor is the cause.
The Instructor and Kenze started sparring, moving the furniture aside, so I joined in.
Off to the side, Pamela and Elena were having a mana-flow sparring session.
”Really now, stop moving the furniture on your own,” the maid scolded, popping her head back in.
I had no choice but to put it back and lounge around until Thomas showed up.
”How is Maria?”
”She has calmed down, but her hatred for Larry has not ceased,” Thomas said, his face grim.
Right, I killed her father.
Though it was actually Thomas who pulled the trigger.
”So, what will Thomas do from here?”
”I’ve decided to discuss it when that middle-aged man Helbert arrives today,” he noted firmly.
That’s probably all he can do.
After that, we talked about what we should do.
”Shouldn’t Thomas just return to the Grand Principality and handle agricultural instruction or militia drilling?”
”Then what about the job I was doing here? Will you do it?”
He handles military administrative work, especially regarding rewards and punishments.
I know from my past life that I’m not suited for personnel matters like that.
”Impossible. That kind of work…” I muttered, shaking my head.
”Then I stay here. I wonder what will happen to me.”
”It’s already decided that you’ll go to the New Continent when spring comes,” Kenze said bluntly.
”Ah, the old Fourth Sage didn’t give up, huh?”
That’s something I’ve been hearing for two years.
”Are we going on that black ship?”
”Probably,” she replied with a shrug.
My heart feels heavy.
If it’s the same as my past life, I suppose that place will have syphilis or something.
But I can’t exactly take anyone with me.
Months of celibacy—I hate it.
Since we were at it, Thomas ate with us, and after waiting about four hours for the party to arrive, just as we were completely drained, the maid came to say, “They have arrived.”
I stood up, feeling like I had no choice, just as a knight in full plate armor marched into the inn and stopped in front of the room.
”Pardon the intrusion,” a voice grated out—neither male nor female, but dangerous.
Clanking armor sounds followed, and first, a knight wearing a crimson mantle entered, followed by about ten others in full plate armor, and finally, that middle-aged man Helbert with a nonchalant expression.
The maids followed, moving the unnecessary furniture to create space.
The mantled knight stood in the center, and the knights lined up behind her.
I stood in a similar fashion, with Thomas, Kenze, Pamela, and the Instructor lining up, with Olga and her daughter behind them.
The mantled knight took off her helmet.
A granny with salt-and-pepper short hair emerged.
”Didn’t think I’d be a woman, did you? I am the second-generation General Yan Curie. My real name is Maya, but I took my father’s name and go by Marshal Yan. Are you the Grand Duke Fee?”
She was a bit blunt, and she requested a handshake in a rude manner.
She had a chainmail glove covered by a plate gauntlet.
”Forgive me, but I cannot have a skin-to-skin handshake unless I remove the armor,” I said, remaining perfectly polite.
I don’t mind. If the other person is Level 3 or higher, I risk unwanted mind-reading.
That’s why Henrietta-san wore gloves with her Gothic Lolita outfit.
”Nice to meet you, Marshal Curie. It is an honor to meet you.”
”Maya”—a name I hadn’t heard from anyone.
I didn’t know if I could really call her Marshal Yan, so I used her surname.
”Likewise, I have finally met the hero who led savages to annihilate two hundred Heavy Cavalry soldiers.”
”May I sit?” she asked, already moving.
”My apologies, please, sit down.”
Before I could finish the sentence, the granny sat diagonally on a three-person sofa, crossed her legs, leaned back against the armrest, propped her chin on her hand, smiled at me, and the full-plate knights behind her instantly formed two lines.
That’s an intense presence.
I sat on a single-seater sofa, and the middle-aged man Helbert plopped down on the single seat to my right.
”Now, I shall convey the war situation to the Grand Duke,” Helbert announced.
”The old Kingdom of Larland Royal Capital will be occupied in a few days. If we welcome the Queen to the captured Royal Capital, half the country will follow. After that, once we strike down the Silesia warlord nesting in the old Marquis of Silesia territory, there will be no one left to oppose us,” the granny interrupted, her voice booming.
What a free-spirited granny.
”And how about Rus? Is it likely to split? Once we unify Larland, shall we go and get our revenge?”
At those words, the knights behind her raised a war cry.
”The Second Imperial Capital, Moscow, was devastated, and the national power has been halved. Aid to the plundered villages is lagging, and there seems to be interference from places like Turku, but Frontier Count Pugachev has stated that he will support the Emperor to the end, and I believe order will be restored eventually.”
”Hoh, that little fatty, eh?”
It seems this granny speaks as if she has met the Frontier Count.
”So, what will your country do?”
”It is still a newly formed country; we must build our strength from here on,” I replied coolly.
”If you talk about such half-hearted things, I will occupy you before Rus.”
What an outrageous thing for this granny to say.
”Then, I must make sure to nip such buds in the bud while I still can.”
When I said this and leaned forward in my seat, preparing to stand up, the knights behind the granny all grasped their sword grips in unison.
”Are you serious?”
”If you are serious about occupying my country.”
The smile vanished from the granny’s face, and she aimed a sharp gaze at me.
”With this difference in numbers?”
”Coming into this small room in full plate, carrying longswords—there is no way my people will lose to such fools.”
The granny’s gaze kept shifting back and forth behind me.
Does she want to fight?
”Now, now, Marshal, Larry,” Helbert pleaded, trying to intervene in a panic, but a smile returned to the granny’s face.
”Even if you can win here, you know I have an army of ten thousand, don’t you?”
”How much are these leaderless rabble really worth? And we have the former king’s bloodline, Thiele, in our grasp. Do you truly think that force would dare defy us, even at the cost of being branded as rebels?”
”Our unity is not so brittle as that!”
The knight behind me shouted, and a chorus of “That’s right!” echoed his sentiment.
”Well then, let us put that to the test.”
As I stood up, without breaking eye contact with Granny, I sensed a presence to my right.
”Oh my, oh my. You know, you’re surprisingly persistent, kid.”
A chill raced down my spine.
I slowly turned my gaze away from Granny and looked back.
Why is Sonya | Major here?
”Oh, don’t mind me. I’m not taking sides with either of you. Right, Helbert-chan?”
She stood behind Helbert Lieutenant Colonel, kneading his shoulders with a wide, beaming smile.
The man on the receiving end wore an indescribable expression. Well, I suppose that’s inevitable.
But still, I haven’t known you long enough to swallow your words whole.
”Oh? Have you been frozen in place by the arrival of a single Elf Mage?”
That hag, she’s really saying it—this is a dangerous, lethal Elf Mage she’s talking about.
But the old woman, looking triumphant, straightened up and then bent at the waist.
”Magic Armored Division, Major Sonya Kittynoir, I presume? It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Maya Curie, Marshall of the Larland Provisional Kingdom Office. A pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
As expected of Granny, she knows who the Major is, but is she underestimating her?
”How very polite. And oh, I only shake hands with those who have bare palms, so please, forgive me. By the way, it looked like you were having some sort of dispute with my child just now.”
The fact that the Major called me “my child” made the Marshall’s face twist slightly.
Was she hoping they were evenly matched, provided it was neutral ground? If the Major were to take our side—or rather, I think if it’s an opponent of this caliber, it’s fine to leave it entirely to the Major.
”A dispute? We were merely having a pleasant chat. Isn’t that right, Grand Duke?”
Did she finally realize the power dynamic?
Still, “Isn’t that right, Grand Duke,” indeed.
I wonder what kind of demands I should make of this old hag.
”Is that so? How boring.”
”What brings you here, Division Commander?”
Old hag, don’t say unnecessary things.
”Right, right. Thomas. I came to deliver maintenance packs to the platoon stationed out here, and I was told to pick up your wife. Also, the Grannies told me to bring along those girls, Olga and Elena, was it?”
What a put-on, acting as if she had suddenly remembered.
There’s definitely something going on.
”Thomas’s wife will be a handful if she goes on a rampage, so Sergei and Kenze should come along too. Helbert-chan, you have paperwork, so come with us.”
What does this mean?
And for some reason, even Pamela is gone.
”Grand Duke, it seems you’ve been left all on your own.”
The old woman said triumphantly and sat down.
That’s right. The Major took away every single one of my powerful allies.
Then, she began to behave in a way unworthy of a Marshall.
”Boy, you were saying some pretty spirited things earlier, weren’t you?”
”I don’t know. My memory has been getting quite poor lately.”
I couldn’t exactly stand my ground in this condition, could I?
”You’re a pitiful one, aren’t you.”
The full-plated knight who had crept up on me at some point lifted his face cover, offered a word of pity with a smile, and then burst into a cackling “Kyahahahaha!”
”So, what was it again? About the leaderless rabble?”
I was asked this while my head was being patted, rhythmically and hard.
”Well, I wonder what it was.”
For a while, I was pushed and shoved around by these people.
”Hey, do you know why your country is looked down upon?”
I no longer had the energy to answer every single point.
”Because you can’t make steel, so you don’t even have decent farming tools, and because you don’t have those, you can’t harvest proper crops. You have no iron, so you can’t make plate armor, and in this day and age, you’ve only got leather. You have no regular soldiers, only militia. The Polotsk Principality barely managed to scrape by as a country because they could grow wheat, but since they gathered together to become a ‘Principality,’ they just dragged each other down and stayed an uncivilized land. Oh, excuse me. Not a ‘Principality,’ but a ‘Grand Principality,’ wasn’t it.”
That was some serious trash-talking, but regarding industry, it wasn’t wrong.
It wasn’t wrong, but I don’t want to hear it from you.
”Your population is small, too. I heard it’s not even half of our territory, so how could you ever call yourself a ‘Grand Principality’?”
From halfway through, they just kept dissing my country.
”Well, for the sake of that Major, I promise you that as long as I draw breath, I won’t invade your country. Though, there’s nothing to gain from occupying it anyway. Hahahaha!”
While being bullied terribly, I at least managed to secure a promise that they wouldn’t invade.
Still, thanks to those plate-covered fists, my face was beaten to a pulp, and my mouth was filled with the metallic taste of blood.
After a while, we retrieved Thomas’s wife, Maria, at Chulpan’s field hospital and returned to the inn with everyone.
”Kyahahahaha, it turned out just like I thought, didn’t it.”
The Major’s laughter, directed at my face, would not stop.
What a sadist.
As for Maria, who I was worried about, she had calmed down and agreed to work for the Magic Armored Division. She left the city in the Major’s carriage along with Olga and her mother, but there is absolutely no way she actually agreed to that, right?
By the way, Olga and her mother were to be handed over to the hags at the former Larland Royal Capital along the way.
”Well then, Larry, you need to report the sequence of events to His Majesty, don’t you?”
Helbert Lieutenant Colonel, who was at the dinner table with me, spoke up in a serious tone.
”Well, I suppose that might be true, but…”
Right now, I am only worried about my own country.
”I figured you’d want to see Thomas, so I called for a transport to pick you up here. It should be arriving soon.”
”You want me to return home in this state? Leaving the Grand Principality behind?”
”Your country will be fine. Right now, the Fourth Sage is giving lessons on agricultural reform, and Second Lieutenant Veronia is establishing a Magic School in Cain. We are also thinking of establishing a military academy and a General School, so rest easy.”
”Whose idea was that?”
”His Majesty’s. He told me that for a country without resources, the only way to survive is to cultivate its people.”
Hearing that, I felt as if tears might start to flow.
Had he really been thinking that far ahead for us?
If that’s the case, then perhaps a Maid academy…
”And that is how it is. Please give His Majesty a report on everything that has happened.”
”So, I am returning to the Royal Capital then. That brings back memories.”
”No, it’s Obernbach.”
According to Helbert Lieutenant Colonel, the Turkic Empire occupied Harmonia, invaded the Imperial Capital Byzantium by land, expelled the Emperor, and destroyed the East Room Empire at the end of last month.
That same Turkic Empire is sailing up the Danube River, and there are reports of unsettling movements at the border with the Pannonia Kingdom.
At the request for reinforcements from our friendly nation, the Pannonia Kingdom, Marquis Sabaski has stationed three thousand Royal Army troops near the Pannonia Royal Capital, and His Majesty is leading five thousand soldiers to garrison the border trade hub of Obernbach as a reserve force.
”I doubt anything will happen, but it is better to be prepared.”
If I can go to Obernbach, my hometown, Strock Village, is close by.
”Once my report to His Majesty is finished…”
”Yes, go back to Strock Village and take it easy for a while. Teressa and Reinhardt are gone, but please forgive me for that.”
I had thought I would never return home again.
Everyone will probably be angry with me.
From my beaten-up face, from those swollen eyes, tears overflowed endlessly.

Summary:
