Volume 9 Chapter 10 The Fluffy Incident on Onigashima
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Early morning of the second day, I woke up.
Checked my whole body, no abnormalities. Not trapped in a dream.
Hinoki is floating in the air right above me, in their rare deformed style. Staring intently, but no reaction from Hinoki. This guy, could it be…
”Morning.”
’Ngho!? …Mornin’. No problems last night, ya know.’
You were sleeping just now, right? Trying to fake it with a “I was keeping watch all night. Sharp look” vibe…
”Really?”
’…For real.’
”Well, if I can still talk to you without forgetting Hinoki, guess it’s fine.”
I got out of the futon and stretched.
Pulled the curtain, and outside the window was faintly bright.
Knock knock, the door was knocked. Immediately after, Sawa’s voice called out.
”Minoru? You up?”
”Yeah, just woke up.”
”Ready to go.”
”Got it. Be right there.”
Sawa turned back down the hallway without entering. Yesterday, we promised to go morning fishing together. She came to call me.
I changed and headed to the entrance, meeting up with Sawa in her fishing jacket, and we went to the coast.
Feeling the refreshing morning sea breeze, the two of us cast our lines. Not much conversation. Not that it’s awkward like last year. This time, listening to the waves and spacing out feels nice.
Partway through, Tempura and the others gathered.
Maybe they thought free time was over. When I told them via Hinoki that they could still do as they pleased, they scattered again.
My catch was one small fry. Sawa got three times mine. All of it became breakfast for Tempura’s group.
After about an hour, the golden hour ended. Returned to the Villa.
Had breakfast with Manaka’s companions, the early risers who were already up and active, while confirming today’s schedule.
Morning is free time.
Swim, explore the island, laze around—everyone does what they want. In the afternoon, everyone will dive into the Onigashima Dungeon on this island.
Onigashima Dungeon is B-rank. My group’s record doesn’t permit exploration. However, just entering allows entry permits for high-rank dungeons too. Like normal dungeons, the area near the entrance is a safe zone. On condition of turning back there and leaving the dungeon, entry is permitted. It’s a procedure Tower Dungeon groups use to collect dungeon entry certificates.
It’s not a vow, so it’s technically possible to lie to the staff, enter, and explore anyway, but almost no one does that. Forcing exploration of a dungeon beyond your ability is suicide.
So, after breakfast, free action as desired.
Some changed into swimsuits to enter the sea again, some went for a walk toward the shopping street. I went fishing again with Sawa. Since she prepared a ton of my fishing gear, it’d be a waste to finish only in the morning.
We came to the sea again.
Cast lines side by side with Sawa on the rocks.
Maybe the timing isn’t good, bites aren’t coming. As I stared blankly at the float, Sawa spoke up.
”Minoru-wise, how were everyone’s swimsuits?”
”Good. Unique.”
”Satisfied?”
”Yep.”
”…”
After a brief silence, Sawa opened her mouth.
”Actually, what if I said I’m wearing a swimsuit too?”
”Wanna see.”
”Instant answer!?”
”Wanna see! Wanna see!”
”O-okay, got it.”
Sawa turned her face to me, pulling back slightly but smiling wryly.
”Keep it secret from everyone, okay?”
My gaze went to Sawa’s jacket zipper. Sawa teased, lowering the zipper bit by bit. But the swimsuit wouldn’t show up.
”???”
”Hehe…”
The zipper pull reached her chest swell, yet only cleavage appeared endlessly, no fabric emerging. Cleavage deeper than Chifumi’s appeared, making me want to worship it… Could she actually not be wearing a swimsuit? Don’t tell me she’ll say it’s a swimsuit invisible to idiots?
”It’s a swimsuit even a monkey can see.”
Finally the pull reached her navel. Sawa stopped her fingers there, and spread the jacket’s front left and right.
Boun! Two watermelons popped out.
”!!!! !”
What Sawa wore was better described as strings than a swimsuit.
A lime green V-string swimsuit. Two thin strings ran vertically from hips to shoulders; from the side, the strings formed a triangle with the n**ples, shoulders, and hips as vertices.
Sawa’s chest size exceeds Chifumi’s. Under the plain-clothed, bespectacled otaku girl’s clothes hid a tightly packed, plump, erotic body with devastating power. I involuntarily swallowed.
”Seems you noticed my charm.”
”Yes.”
”How is it? Nice?”
”Yes.”
Sawa took off her glasses, lightly bit the temple tip, and gave me a sidelong glance. The sight of her kneading her own magnificent spheres, changing their shape to show off softness and firmness, is extremely erotic. She still has plenty of belly fat, but her huge tits forcibly cancel out that minus.
My lower body inevitably reacted. Damn… It’s famous that Nieda’s Strong-Females (Shoji’s group members) have fleshy appearances fitting the word “bountiful.” I thought it wasn’t my type, irrelevant… but to think she’d slim down into this shape…!
Observing the Strong-Females (Shoji’s group members) beside me again, a well-ordered face, plump lips. A woman like the earth goddess image in my mind made manifest.
”Wanna see the bottom too?”
”Wanna see!!”
”Hehe. Sure thing…”
Just as Sawa put her hands on her pants, a voice came from behind.
”Minoru? You were here with Sawa, I see.”
”!!??”
Sawa moved faster than me.
With just her elbow and beyond, she yanked the zipper up to her neck in an instant, stashing both spheres and the swimsuit under the jacket in a flash, put her glasses back on, and turned around.
Manaka isn’t here. No, she’s standing about 15 meters away, at the boundary between rocks and sand, looking this way. Seems she only threw her voice here.
”Found you. There’s something I want Minoru to see.”
”I’ll watch the rod. Go on.”
”Got it. Stepping out for a bit.”
”See ya~”
My heart is still pounding, but Sawa acts normal as ever.
Realizing women are scary, I walked along the rocks, calming my heart, and moved to where Manaka stood.
”What’s up?”
”Found a Semi-anomaly in the sea.”
”Oh? Really?”
”Yes. Asunaro-san is handling it now. She asked me to call Minoru.”
”Understood. Thanks.”
In the direction of her gaze, in the sea too deep to stand, Asunaro and the others are floating. Apparently, they found a Semi-anomaly while teaching Asunaro to swim.
”Prince, over here.”
Asunaro waved, calling me.
I hurried over, and Asunaro pointed into the water.
”Look, it’s there. Dive and you’ll see.”
I put on goggles and peered underwater… there it was.
A fish body extended vertically from the seabed sand, its head at the end of a gently curving body was horizontal to the seabed. Distinctive shape. Felt like our eyes met somehow.
When I ran out of breath and surfaced, Asunaro nodded and spoke.
”Apparently it’s a Garden Eel.”
”Apparently?”
”That Semi-anomaly introduced itself as such.”
”By itself? Self-introduction?”
”That’s right.”
First time for this pattern.
On this beach, we’ve encountered Tempura and the current members, but all started with forced capture. Confining in Kaname’s domain and forced subjugation was the usual pattern.
Since Hinoki joined, conversation with anomalies became possible, but this is the first experience starting with negotiation and communication with a completely unrelated party. If the anomaly isn’t hostile, entry options increase. That’s good.
I put my face in the water again, and this time the fish clearly turned toward me. Certainly, it looks like the garden eels seen in aquariums. Ignoring the totally different size.
The garden eels I saw at an aquarium before were, from memory, about the thickness and length of a thin pencil. The Semi-anomaly before me, however, is at least the thickness of a plastic bottle, and sticks out nearly a meter from the sand.
”Prince, that kid wants to talk, apparently?”
”Talk?”
”Yeah. Wants to chat a bit before joining.”
”What they want to talk about… treatment? Whatever. Can you interpret?”
”Sure. No problem.”
Asunaro faced the garden eel (provisional).
The garden eel moved its neck, then shurushuru shrank and approached Asunaro. The body that came out of the sand was more than double the imagined length.
We moved to the water’s edge, had Sawa bring an empty cooler box.
Put the garden eel, now the thickness of a cotton swab, and seawater in, and returned to the Villa. Perhaps out of curiosity, everyone there followed.
Placed the cooler box on the cafeteria’s big table and opened the lid. The slender fish stayed docile without resisting.
As I observed its shape and pattern, something nagged at my mind. For confirmation, I called Hinoki.
”Hinoki, want your opinion.”
’This guy’s identity?’
”Yeah. Is this garden eel last year’s sea snake?”
Stir, Chifumi and the others reacted.
A year ago, a sea snake tried to harm me in a dream. Looks different, but my gut says it’s the same individual.
’Uchi feels the same. Think it’s part of that sea snake.’
”Part?”
’That sea snake was smashed to bits by Tempura-han’s hit. Definitely, it completely ended once. What’s here is a piece of that scattered flesh that regenerated due to some trigger, a newly born Semi-anomaly.’
”Persistent…”
’But… something’s off…’
Hinoki stopped moving.
’Scent signature of Conspiracy.’
”Meaning?”
’Timing’s too good. Also, a familiar presence…’
”You know something…?”
’Specifically, Ancient Land Deity.’
”!?”
’Is it their doing? Let me try talking for now.’
”Counting on you.”
Asunaro and Hinoki peered into the cooler box, mumbling something.
From Asunaro’s expression, it doesn’t seem serious… but feels like it’ll take a while.
Leaving it to them, we stepped away. When I returned from washing hands, Hinoki immediately reported progress.
’Bro, can I talk directly?’
”Directly? With this fish? Can you talk?”
’As is impossible, so in a dream.’
”…Only bad feelings about this.”
Asunaro also turned to me.
”We will keep an eye on you so you won’t be able to cause trouble.”
Everyone around Chifumi nodded.
’So, I’ll support you in your dreams.’
Well, if that’s the case…
’Okay, let’s get started.’
”Huh? Already?”
’Isn’t it better to do it sooner? Come on, get your hand out.’
In response to Hinoki’s request, I cautiously put my right hand into the cooler box.
A nearby sand eel opened its mouth and touched my fingertip with its snout. At that moment, the world went dark.
”…Huh?!”
When I realized it, there was no one around me.
The place hadn’t moved. I was sitting in a chair at the canteen. In front of me was the cooler box. And a small centipede.
”In a dream?”
”Yep.”
The centipede spoke clearly. Yes, it’s a dream.
”Should we change too?”
”Yes.”
It was the first time I heard a voice in response to Hinoki.
Did the sand eel speak?
The centipede shuffled to the edge of the table and jumped down. Before landing on the floor, the centipede transformed.
”…Hinoki?”
”Huh? Oh, now that you mention it, this is the first time you’ve seen my form.”
Short hair of dark red. A boy with a plain folk build, about a height of a lower-grade elementary school student.
”Hinoki, you were able to become humanoid?”
”If it’s in your dreams, it means I can use transformation techniques. This form is one that humans let their guard down around. I used to rely on it a lot.”
It’s clear that this is a transformation by a supernatural being, yet it gives off a rather unreliable impression. It appears to be a humanoid form used for deceiving sorcerers by inducing carelessness through its appearance.
”Well, let’s talk about that later. More importantly, over there.”
The humanoid Hinoki pointed across the table.
A sand eel, which had crawled out of the cooler box, was about to transform. In humanoid form, it also had a plain folk’s body shape, but it looked to be about my age. It had dull gray, messy long hair. The facial features resembled Mitsuki, with an overall impression of a strong-willed demeanor. They weren’t tall. The word “little demon” came to mind.
While it’s fine that it becomes humanoid, there’s one issue.
”Talking to a naked woman is a bit… could you please put on some clothes?”
”Understood.”
The sand eel’s hair grew to cover its body and formed clothes.
In contrast to Hinoki’s bright red patterned short sleeves, the sand eel had shabby hemp short sleeves.
”So, let’s begin.”
”I look forward to working with you.”
The sand eel in humanoid form bowed deeply.
”First, self-introduction. I’m Tatemiya Minoru. I’m the master of these guys.”
”I’m Hinoki, a supernatural being related to Centipede-chan.”
”I’m a sand eel. I don’t have a name, so please call me China.”
The self-proclaimed sand eel girl smiled brightly. So cute. No, this is a supernatural being. A fish. I must not be fooled. That said, calling a visually beautiful girl “sand eel” might lead to misunderstandings. Rejected.
”So, I’ll go by China.”
”China…”
”Is that okay?”
”…Well, understood. It’s easier to call someone with two characters than four, isn’t it?♡”
China quickly accepted the name change.
Leaning forward slightly.
”You’re too close… So, what is it? Do you want to talk?”
”Oh, right. Actually, I have a message!”
China clapped her hands in front of her body and tilted her head to look at me. How coy. What’s up with her? Despite being a fish, she knows how to entice a human’s heart. The atmosphere suddenly became fluffy. But then, everything was blown away by the next words.
”I have a message from the Ancient Land Deity for you and Hinoki.”
She got straight to the point.
”If you wish to invade the Otherworld, you need to come to Kamikake Gorge. She said she’d be waiting forever.”
”Oh?”
Hinoki’s eyes narrowed.
As her hair swayed, it reached towards China, and the ends stopped right in front of China’s eyes. Hinoki’s hair had transformed halfway into something resembling centipede legs.
”Did you send that? Did you meet her?”
”I haven’t met the Ancient Land Deity directly. I was picked up when my consciousness was sinking to the bottom of the sea and was given a body, but I only heard her voice at that time. She told me to meet you and pass on this message. I guess that’s the price for bringing me back to life.”
China giggled.
She completely ignored the cold hostility emanating from Hinoki.
”So?”
”If you come to Kamikake Gorge, I will guide you to the Ancient Land Deity. If you don’t plan to come, you’re free to do as you please. That’s all.”
Hinoki stopped projecting hostility toward China, who maintained her smile.
”China, do you still have the memories from when you were that sea snake?”
”If you’re talking about what was the basis for this body, then no. I am a different being now.”
”Hmm…”
Hinoki’s hair shrank down and returned to its original length.
”Hinoki, didn’t you ask for details?”
”She said she wouldn’t tell everything until she talked to you directly, and that’s why I’m hearing it for the first time.”
”Got it… So, it’s an invitation from the Ancient Land Deity. You’re going to go, right?”
”Sure. I have no idea what she’s thinking, but we have no choice but to meet her.”
The course was quickly decided. Given the situation, there was no option to ignore the invitation from the Ancient Land Deity.
I’ll check with China on our next move.
”Are you going to take me to Kamikake Gorge?”
”I’m tasked with directing which Otherworld to enter. It’s outside my job scope to guide you into the target Otherworld. Honestly, I don’t even know where this Otherworld is… I’m sorry.”
China apologized cutely.
Even her apologetic gesture had a little demon feel to it. It had the same movement that connects with a playful gal.
”Understood. For now, can we just stick together until we reach the dungeon?”
”Huh? Huh? You’re not going to make me your ally?”
”Ally? Ah, in some sort of binding? No, from the stories so far, aren’t you a subordinate of the Ancient Land Deity? It would be troublesome if you got bound.”
”You’ll be fine, right? I’m not a subordinate of the Ancient Land Deity, just a message bearer. I’m grateful she gave me form, but since I delivered her words, I think that obligation is done. Since you seem like you’ll be fun, I don’t mind at all!”
”I see…”
I glanced over at Hinoki.
”Seems fine, doesn’t it? Could be useful.”
Can a sand eel be useful? Do they have any special abilities? Well, if Hinoki doesn’t mind, that’s fine. I was originally planning to catch it and make it part of us anyway.
”So then, I’ll bind you.”
”Yes!♡”
As China stood up from her chair and came closer around the table, she took my hand and leaned her face closer.
”I look forward to working together!♡”
The moment China gently bit my fingertips, the world went dark again.
…Huh?!
My consciousness came back.
Currently, I’m in the canteen, fingers still inside the cooler box. The position I was in right before the dream ended remains unchanged. Chifumi, perhaps worried about my confusion, pulled on the hem of my clothing and asked.
”Minoru~? Is something wrong?”
”Chifumi… How much time has passed?”
”How much, you say…?”
”I want to know how long I’ve been stuck in this position.”
”Hmm, about 10 seconds maybe?”
Chifumi’s expression was quite serious. She didn’t seem to be joking. I looked at the clock in the canteen. Indeed, no time had passed.
”Prince, as Chifumi said, no time has passed.”
”Asunaro…”
”The passage of time in dreams isn’t constant. Sometimes you feel a moment as eternities, while inversely it can also feel like it’s rushing. The time you experienced this time was just a split second for us.”
Asunaro must have sensed my question and gave me the answer I wanted before I even asked it.
’If it’s going to end sooner, it’d be better, right? I initiated the process.’
Hinoki in centipede form on the table also provided me the explanation. I remembered reading something in materials about sorcery that affects consciousness and the mind. So this is how it feels. I get it.
”So? What’s this kid?”
”Can you tell me?”
Chifumi and Manaka were seeking an explanation from me. While organizing my thoughts, I informed everyone about the next course of action.
”First, this sand eel. Its name is China. I’ve bound it under my influence.”
”The name feels cheap.”
”She introduced herself like that. It’s not about my taste.”
”Is that really so?”
Chifumi looked at Asunaro, who nodded.
”Seems like it.”
”Is that so? China, I’m sorry.”
Chifumi apologized to the fish. Hey, what about me?
”What’s up?”
”Nah, it’s fine… I heard from China that she is a semi-anomaly born from the Holy Land Deity messing with part of the sea snake from a year ago. China’s purpose is to deliver messages from the Ancient Land Deity to me and Hinoki. If we want to enter the dungeon, we need to come to ‘Kamikake Gorge’, she says.”
”Kamikake Gorge, that’s a dungeon closely related to Futami’s family, right?”
I nodded, adding to Manaka’s words.
”China is supposed to serve as a guide once we enter Kamikake Gorge. Until we get into the dungeon, she said I can decide what happens. If we don’t need to enter the dungeon, she also said there’s no need to come to Kamikake Gorge.”
”I see— so what are we going to do?”
”Of course, we’re going. I don’t know what the Ancient Land Deity is thinking, but there’s no option to decline this invitation.”
”Right?”
Chifumi supported my decision.
The other members present, Mitsuki and Asari, also agreed.
”We’ll help too. For now, let’s talk once the others return.”
”Agreed.”
Manaka and Sawa were also cooperative.
Yui, Yurina, Megumi, and Miku were out exploring the island. They were likely admiring swords at the archive museum.
I would explain it to the two of them later, but for now… it’s about handling China.
Like other supernatural beings, I’m temporarily storing her in the shadow.
It feels like a missed timing to head to the sea again. A bit early, but I’ll start preparing lunch.
As the fried noodles were finishing up, the exploration group returned.
I explained earlier events to Yui and Yuu, and asked for information regarding Kamikake Gorge.
”…A dungeon we have to dive into when we inherit from Futami’s house.”
”Is that so… maybe…”
Unlike Yui, who maintained her character, Yuu forgot hers for a moment.
Instead of the upper-class geisha character, she somewhat resembled a yandere character holding a machete.
”Anyway, since we’re going to Kamikake Gorge, I’d like to ask you to arrange the hotel as we discussed earlier.”
”Understood.”
”Leave it to me!☆”
Everyone ate lunch together, and during the break after the meal, the two of them immediately used the phone provided to contact home.
