Chapter 33 Brutal Cure
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
’Then let’s fix that chest wound, okay?’
The moment I returned to my room, the voice spoke up right away. It stripped me naked without waiting for an answer. Fear of what would happen next mixed with the shame of some unknown thing staring at my bare body. My face grew hot.
”…Ah.”
I had learned something new lately. The voice was not alone. When I looked at the broken mirror in the room, I could see a strange shape in the reflection of my magic eye, the one I acquired from Haruka. It kept changing form, hard to remember. If I looked away or got lost in thought, I forgot what it had looked like just a second before.
The voice controlled me like a master, or maybe like someone playing with a favorite toy. And the moment I noticed it, a loud noise filled my ears.
‘Taa-raa, seriously now’
‘Hey, don’t be like that’
‘Whoa, that was kinda crazy’
‘Sheesh, you’re such a goof’
It sounded like being thrown into a busy crowd. I could not make out single words, but the sound of many voices reached me all at once. My head hurt badly.
There was no reason to hurt myself or feel all those eyes on me. I quietly looked away from the mirror. Soon I would have no time to care anyway.
’Then first, let’s remove all the bad parts,’ the voice said.
”Eh, ah—i i i i i i i i!?”
My arms moved on their own, with no pause. They dug into the soft, damaged flesh of my chest and tore it out. Like scratching skin or pushing through mud, the meat came away in chunks.
Each time the pain hit my nerves and blood vessels, I almost passed out, but something woke me up. I wanted to go mad, but it pulled me back to clear thought. I had to face the wild pain with no way to escape. My chest flesh, damaged and raw from Cliff’s attack, was peeled away. Then, the burnt bone was scraped, and part of my scorched lungs were crushed.
”Ah, ga…! I…—gup!”
’Behave! Close your mouth!’
I couldn’t pass out, couldn’t go mad. The extreme stress made me look up at the ceiling and vomit. The fountain of vomit from my mouth soiled my face, ran into my ears, and spilled onto the wound.
’That’s a lot of bad statuses, lol.’
My lungs were crushed. Vomit clogged my throat. I thought I might suffocate. Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad.
”But it can’t be helped. The wounds from Cliff’s attack can only be treated with brutal methods right now.”
Though I had no will to move myself, my arms wouldn’t stop.
’Cliff-bōchan’s attack had a nasty side effect: recovery inhibition. It leaves a spark in the attacked area, burning continuously using the target’s blood oxygen as fuel. So no matter how much you recover, it’ll just burn again unless the spark is removed.’
My hands then removed more flesh, this time from my uninjured stomach and thighs, to replace the damaged tissue in my chest.
’And even if you remove it cleanly, if you perform any recovery or treatment while the spark is still there, the target’s body will mistakenly think the spark is the normal state. That’s a secondary effect. Talk about overkill.’
I pressed the fresh, uninjured meat I’d taken from my stomach and thighs against the gaping hole in my chest. It sizzled.
’My body has regeneration capabilities due to my (Evolution) blessing, so the recovery inhibition effect was particularly devastating… That’s why we have to completely excise the affected area, including the spark or its influence, and then regenerate it with fresh meat taken from another part of your body. Your stomach and thighs weren’t affected, so they’ll regenerate just fine.’
It felt disgusting, my body, my chest, taking in the fresh meat to replace what was missing. Tearing flesh from my body, pressing it to my chest, and having it absorbed… tearing, pressing, absorbing… tearing, pressing, absorbing…
’Look at this, a beautiful girl reduced to a mess, eyes rolled back, wetting herself while naked.’
When it was all over, perhaps from the relief of the hell finally ending, I slumped into the puddle I’d made and passed out.
’It’ll take about five minutes for your body to adapt and stabilize. After that, we’ll proceed to see Harold.’
I would realize only a few minutes later that this was not a brief respite, but merely an escape from reality.
