Volume 3 Chapter 13 Risa’s Whereabouts
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Perfect timing! I was just about to send Risa-sensei’s stuff with the other packages.”
Just like before, I called Yuki-san from the security room, saying, “I came to pick up Risa-san’s things.”
”Can you come over?”
After writing in the visitor log at the security room, I got a visitor tag. I walked down the hallway with Yuki-san guiding me.
When Yuki-san opened another security door, I found myself in a place that looked different from the outside.
”I’ll go get it, so please wait here.”
There were some long sofa benches against the wall, but I sat in the spot Yuki-san pointed to.
(There are a lot of people here…)
While I waited, medical staff kept passing by. Since I came in my uniform, I stood out a lot. They didn’t say anything, but I could feel their curious looks.
A cart with unfamiliar boxes labeled with names of disposable products was brought in, and people hurried by carrying what looked like medical coolers.
”…Um, is that…?”
As I watched, I caught the eye of 2 women in the distance. I didn’t know them, but they were coming over.
”Nice to meet you. I heard from Tadano-san over there that the person who made the apple jam is here.”
”So, we came to say thank you. It was really good. Thanks!”
I didn’t know these people, but they seemed to be Yuki-san’s colleagues. They must be the ones who got the 5 jars of “apple jam” I made after staying up all night.
”Ah… no problem.”
”What brings you here today?”
”I was told to pick up Risa-san’s stuff for delivery, and since I’m nearby and have some free time, I came to get it.”
I didn’t expect to be asked a tricky question here. But I had to answer. I had to be careful not to seem suspicious in my uniform.
”Oh, I see. Risa-sensei passed all but the last USMLE exam when she was a student, and she can use connections through the clinic director. So, she’s going to study in a residency program in America where it’s easier to get surgical experience than in Japan.”
”I heard she was going for an interview this year. I wonder if she’s already gone?”
”Maybe? She said she’d look for a place to live then. I heard it’s better to go early before the end of the year gets busy.”
America? I had never heard about that. What does it mean? Now I kind of understood why she hadn’t decided on how long she’d be away or where she’d live.
What Risa-san told me this morning was true.
(But even if it is…)
This situation reminded me of when I first met Risa-san, a time I didn’t want to remember but could never forget──when she tried to ditch me after our “thank you date.”
The only way we still had to contact each other was through a messaging app ID. If she went abroad, it would be hard to meet up, and our communication would drop a lot.
I had a feeling Risa-san didn’t plan to keep in touch with me.
(Still, nothing is decided yet…)
So, that’s what it means. Risa-san is going to set things up, so nothing is finalized yet. There’s still time to change things.
