Volume 3 Chapter 15 Kind Bystanders
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I arrived at the gate for my flight and looked around the lobby. But I couldn’t see Risa-san anywhere.
(Is she in the lounge?)
It would be terrible if Risa-san changed her plans and took a different flight after I came all this way. I don’t think I’ll feel better until I see her with my own eyes.
(Should I look up hospitals near New York… with surgery facilities?)
I felt restless, so I sat on a bench and started searching for hospitals on my phone.
”Excuse me. Is it okay if I sit next to you?”
A woman in a suit with a hard case asked me.
”…Oh, sure.”
Even though there was no announcement yet, the area in front of the gate was getting crowded since it was close to boarding time.
”You’re a high school student, right? Studying abroad?”
She figured out who I was right away because of my uniform. I stood out here too.
”No, I’m looking for someone.”
”Is that person… in a hospital?”
I was surprised and looked closely at the woman sitting next to me. I couldn’t tell what her job was just by looking at her, but she seemed sharp and professional.
”Looks like you’re searching for hospitals.”
She pointed at my phone, which showed hospitals in New York City, with her nicely manicured fingers.
”Ah… yes.”
”Is there a reason? If you’re not studying abroad, do you have a place to stay?”
”No, I don’t. If I can’t meet her, I’ll have to find a place to stay there.”
”…That might be tough.”
Saying that, the woman took out a business card from her case. She started writing something on the blank space with a pen.
”I’ll be in New York for a while too, so if you need help, contact me. I wrote down the hotel I’m staying at.”
The business card had her phone number and email, along with the name of a famous international hotel I recognized, written by hand.
”Are you the president…?”
There was a title “CEO” between the company name and her full name.
”Yeah, it’s a small company though. By the way, is your seat in economy?”
”Yes.”
”Then, how about we go to New York together? They might still be able to change your seat, so we could sit next to each other.”
Can they really change seats at the last minute? Well, it seems like I won’t meet Risa-san on the plane anyway, so I’d just be bored.
I planned to spend the time trying not to spiral into negative thoughts by sleeping. Talking to this woman might help distract me a bit.
Just as I was about to pull out my ticket from my passport, I heard a small voice behind me say, “Shuu?” It was Risa-san.
