Volume 2 Chapter 14 Fashion Show
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The day of the entrance ceremony¹ was finally arriving tomorrow. To mark the occasion, the final fitting-slash-photoshoot session was currently underway-at the Totsuka house!
”Okay, Ma-kun, this one’s for you~” Mio said.
”Okaay,” I replied.
Mio-san handed me a set of clothes. It was the formal attire specified by the kindergarten we’d be attending. A white shirt, a navy blazer, and matching bottoms. White socks and a red bowtie-sadly, it didn’t come with a built-in voice changer.
Even though I’d already put these on and taken countless photos before, was I really the only one thinking, Again? …Wait, is it just me?
But honestly, if it meant getting to see Su-chan looking adorable, it was a small price to pay. I’d do it a thousand times over. That’s why I didn’t think this was a total drag in the slightest. Standing next to a dressed-up Su-chan required me to be dressed up too; it was just the natural order of things. Su-chan wanted it that way, too.
I understood that, but…
”What’s the matter, Ma-kun?” Mio asked.
”This… isn’t this a skirt?” I muttered.
”Yes, it is. Is there a problem?” Mio replied.
…Something was wrong.
I’d asked because I felt a serious sense of uncanny Madoka vibes², but Mio-san just stared back at me as if to say, “And?”
”Mother…?” I asked.
”What is it? Do you need Mommy to help you get changed?” Mother asked.
”…”
Hmm. My Mother, with her perfectly serious face, didn’t seem to find anything questionable about this either. Which meant it might have just been my imagination playing tricks on me.
In the memories of my previous life, I had a very strong impression that skirts were strictly for females. Perhaps the world I knew and this post-reincarnation world were slightly different. Then again, I’ve never really understood fashion to begin with.
…
No, wait. I’m not wearing that.
I’m not falling for it!
I can see the corners of Mother’s and Mio-san’s mouths twitching! I know you’re both intentionally avoiding eye contact!
These are clearly Su-chan’s clothes. I’ve seen them a dozen times already. I’ve seen Su-chan wearing them!
”Mother?” I said.
”…Yes?” Mother replied.
”Is it okay if I wear this to the entrance ceremony tomorrow, too?” I asked.
”…”
”I won’t wear anything else. Is that really okay with you?” I asked.
”…”
Alright, Mother is broken.
As expected, she couldn’t actually bring herself to let her only son wear a skirt for his big debut. I thought, Wait, then Su-chan won’t have anything to wear… but she’d probably just nonchalantly put on my pants instead.
”…Mio, I’m leaving the rest to you,” Mother said.
”Ma-kun, Su-chan would be so happy if you wore this, you know? Right, Su-chan? You want to see Ma-kun in this, don’t you?” Mio asked.
”Mm. I wanna see Ma-kun wear it. …Hehe♪” Su-chan said.
Once Su-chan said that, I was powerless.
”Mitsuhisa-san…” I muttered.
”…Just give up, kid,” Mitsuhisa said.
I tried seeking help from the only other male present, Mitsuhisa-san, thinking he’d surely understand my plight. But he just closed his eyes and raised the white flag of surrender, looking like a man who had attained enlightenment.
”It’s just the way of the world, son. A man can never win against his mother or his sisters,” Mitsuhisa said.
”You’ve really had it rough, haven’t you, Mitsuhisa-san…?” I asked.
”Well, you could say that…” Mitsuhisa replied.
If I recalled correctly, Mitsuhisa-san grew up in a house with two older sisters and one younger sister. From my perspective as someone who grew up with brothers, that sounded incredibly enviable, but apparently, being surrounded by nothing but women has its own unique set of hardships.
But that’s his business, and this is mine.
The jealousy and spite of a man with brothers shall be avenged!
”If Mitsuhisa-san wears one, then I’ll wear one. Borrow Mio-san’s skirt,” I said.
”Mii-kun in a skirt, huh…? I might actually want to see that,” Mio said.
”Hey! What are you saying?! Why are you trying to increase the body count?!” Mitsuhisa shouted.
”If I’m going down, I’m taking you with me,” I said.
”Where on earth did you learn a phrase like that?” Mitsuhisa asked.
”I saw it on TV,” I replied.
See? I’m clever enough to be called a child prodigy³. I remember words after hearing them just once. (Though I might somehow remember things I haven’t even heard in this life yet.)
”Alright, stop grumbling and get changed already,” Mitsuhisa said.
”Mitsuhisa-san, you too!” I shouted.
”As for me… oh, right! I’m way too big. I can’t fit into Mio’s clothes,” Mitsuhisa said.
”A skirt would be fine,” I replied.
”…The waist probably wouldn’t fit, so it’s a no-go. Man, Mio just has such a great figure, you know?” Mitsuhisa said.
”Ugh, what a convenient excuse…” I muttered.
”If you’re that frustrated, work hard and grow up big like me. I made it happen,” Mitsuhisa said.
Is that the reason Mitsuhisa-san is so tall? Can you actually trigger a growth spurt purely through childhood spite…?
Ultimately, my resistance was futile. I was forced into the girl’s uniform and subjected to a photoshoot.
”Okay, Ma-kun, look over here~” Mother said.
”It looks so good on you, Ma-kun~” Mio said.
”Why don’t you try doing a little twirl?” Mother asked.
Mother and Mio-san were having the time of their lives. They were so good at showering me with praise-and the women all looked so genuinely happy-that I ended up giving them a little extra “fan service.”
…
I must have lost my mind.
This is going to be a total dark history⁴ moment. I absolutely have to delete this photo data. This is exactly the kind of situation where I should use my “prodigy” powers for the greater good.
There are too many witnesses right now, so I’ll have to do it secretly later. It’s definitely not that I’m paralyzed by the sheer mental damage of it all.
”Ma-kun, don’t just lie there in your underwear! Next, we’re taking pictures in your actual uniform~” Mother said.
”…No response. It’s just a corpse,” Mitsuhisa said.
”Wait, what?!” Mother shouted.
”No, sorry. Ma-kun’s acting was just so realistic…” Mitsuhisa said.
”Ma-kuoon, wake up~” Mio said.
”Su-chan, what are you supposed to do to wake up a sleeping prince?” Mother asked.
”Kiss him!” Su-chan shouted.
And just like that, I was revived by Su-chan’s kiss and changed into the boy’s uniform-the pants version.
As someone who was used to wearing suits in my previous life, there was a different kind of uncanny Madoka vibe to wearing a crisp, formal blazer with… short pants. It felt sharp and professional, yet my kneecaps were just out there for everyone to see. It was a whole new sensation.
Mio-san mentioned that long pants don’t really suit kids with big heads and short legs. Since the blazer makes the shoulders look broad and stiff, the short legs would really stand out and ruin the balance.
In any case, pants are definitely better. With a skirt, it’s all breezy between the legs and I just can’t relax. Women who wear those things as if it’s perfectly normal and go out on the town… they’re truly formidable.
That’s why Su-chan is amazing, too. …Amazingly cute. It actually hurts how cute she is.
I mean, she’s always cute. But today, her hair was braided all fancy. On top of that, the outfit seemed to make her act the part, as she kept showing me this adorable, prim-and-proper little face.
”Su-chan, you look really cute,” I said.
”……Mufuu,” Su-chan muttered.
Sorry, Su-chan. I know you were trying your best to keep that “elegant lady” face on. But you’re cute when you’re blushing, too.
”Ma-kun looks… cool, too…” Su-chan said.
”Thanks. Do I look like I’m a good match for you?” I asked.
”Mm. ……Myufuu,” Su-chan replied.
What is this adorable creature? Lately, she’s been trying to act like a big sister more often, so the number of times she goes all squishy and embarrassed has been decreasing-but today, she was in rare form.
”Ma-kun, same. ……Mufuu,” Su-chan said.
Su-chan seemed incredibly satisfied that we were in matching formal wear. Once we actually start kindergarten, we’ll have even more matching things… but pointing that out now would just be boorish.
”Okay, Su-chan, Ma-kun, stand together nicely~” Mother said.
”Ma-kun, over here,” Mio said.
”Ma-kun, put some life into your eyes! Work on the expression!” Mother shouted.
”……Like this?” I asked.
”………That looks so fake! More natural!” Mother shouted.
”Give me a break…” I muttered.
The moment I’m trying to change my expression, “natural” is already out the window.
”Lean in a little more! Yes, perfect~. Now, let’s try holding hands,” Mio said.
”Ma-kun,” Su-chan said.
”Aye-aye, sir,” I replied.
”Su-chan, try tilting your head just a bit? Toward Ma-kun,” Mother asked.
”Li-ke this?” Su-chan asked.
”Ma-kun! Stand up straight!” Mother shouted.
After that, we took a flurry of photos while being bombarded with instructions by the two noisy mothers. I was pretty exhausted by the end of it, but as long as Mother and Su-chan were happy, I was satisfied too.
I’d better get to sleep early tonight to be ready for tomorrow.
Wait… I feel like I’m forgetting something…
