Volume 2 Chapter 10 Bargain Find
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Starting the next day, various preparations for establishing the Hunting Group began.
I thought I would hold back on the previous night’s activities (activation of Sexual Prowess Skill) since there were preparations to do today, but I ended up giving in to everyone’s requests and went all out.
I was concerned about everyone’s condition, but in the morning, everyone’s faces looked shiny, so I thought they were okay.
After breakfast, we first decided to secure a location to use as the interview venue, so we all went to the mansion next door to where we currently live.
I hadn’t been informed, but the neighboring mansion also belonged to Milly, which explained why there were no partitions with the next house and why we hadn’t had a chance to meet anyone.
I asked Milly, and she told me that she owned a few more houses on Noble Street, but since they were currently rented out, the only one available was the one next door.
It was slightly smaller than the mansion we lived in, but it had a similar number of rooms like the reception room, living room, bedrooms, and guest rooms, and although the bath was a bit smaller, it was still there.
Currently, it was mainly used as a warehouse for monster materials, magic tools, equipment, and costumes, but I had called a carpenter to remodel the reception room of that mansion into the Hunting Group’s interview venue, asking for the usual mirror to be installed.
In the meantime, since there was only one guest room left in the main building that could be provided as accommodation for the new Hunting Group members, we decided to clean up the guest room that was being used as a warehouse so it could be offered as lodging.
We planned to hire 3 people, so we needed to secure 2 more rooms.
Annabella and Feria said that sharing a room would be spacious enough, but I asked Milly to consider my wish to avoid any differences in treatment for the girls who would become Hunting Group members.
”What kind of room is this?”
I looked at the room filled with things I didn’t quite understand and asked Annabella.
”Um, this is… the Materials room. The rare items are stored in the vault, so what’s here is mostly mid-level and low-level Materials. Lady Miriallia has been hoarding these Materials since before I got here.”
Annabella explained while holding a tusk that was near the entrance.
”No, I’ve been neglecting to cash in since I started, and it just kept piling up. I was running out of space, so I just tossed it all in here. That’s why I decided to get an Appraiser from the Hunter Guild today to finally get rid of it.”
”But if you put out this much, won’t the prices drop? This White Boar fur, if you put out this many, it’ll be worth half the price! And those Phantom Butterfly wings, they’re worth about a gold coin each, but if you put out dozens, they’ll probably go for less than 5 silver coins each.”
Feria, a former Waitress from the Hunter Guild, seemed to know quite a bit about the market for Materials.
”Well, even if I have them, they’re just in the way, and they’re mid-level and low-level for Equipment crafting. I think I should just get rid of them for any amount of money. Kent, you’re okay with that, right?”
Considering Milly’s fancy statement, I thought about it, but the reality is that these Materials are taking up space, and if the owner, Milly, clearly doesn’t want them, it might be better to sell them and free up some space.
”I think if Milly doesn’t want them, it’s fine to sell them.”
”Excuse me, but could you please give me the Horn Horse horn and the Blue Bear paw? They’ll be Materials for healing potions and elixirs, and it would be a waste to buy them, so if you could spare them, I’ll prepare them for you.”
Lana offered to take some of the Materials from the pile for potion ingredients.
It makes sense that if we’re going to sell them for a pittance, we should use what we can.
”Well then, can I bring those 2 items into Lana’s room? You’re going to mix them there, right?”
”Ah, yes. I’ll go buy the tools next time, so it’s fine to bring in the materials.”
”Is that all you need?”
”Yes, it seems the other materials can only make low-level potions.”
We sorted the Horn Horse horns and Blue Bear hands from the room and brought them into Lana’s room.
Since there were dozens of each, the horns and hands ended up occupying space in Lana’s room.
It was a somewhat strange sight, but since Lana seemed satisfied, I didn’t say anything.
When I returned after bringing the materials into Lana’s room, I overheard a person who seemed to be an appraiser sent by the Hunter Guild negotiating with Milly.
”Wow, you’ve really stockpiled these. If you flood the market with this much at once, it’ll crash the prices, and mid-level and low-level hunters will end up unemployed… We’ll need to send some to the main store in the royal capital.”
The man who seemed to be the appraiser was checking each material item scattered around the room, writing down the items and their quantities.
He was trying to look troubled, but I could see a slight smirk on his face.
He was probably calculating the profits and knew he was going to make a good amount.
”You’re just going to adjust the stock at the Hunter Guild anyway, right? Well, I don’t care about the price, I just want you to take them. Payment doesn’t have to be immediate.”
Milly continued the negotiation, seemingly ignoring the man’s words.
”Immediate payment isn’t necessary. That’s a relief. Honestly, if you had asked for payment for this many items right away, I would have had to decline, so if you can wait, I’d be happy to sell them to you. If we bundle them together and add a little extra, how about this amount?”
It seemed the appraisal was finished, as the man rubbed his hands together excitedly and showed Milly the buyout price.
”You offered surprisingly high for the buyout. For a whole room of materials, 20 gold coins. That’s good. Please note it in the Guild’s account; I might buy more materials if I find I’m short.”
Wait, seriously?! One gold coin is about ten million yen, so that means there are about 2 hundred million yen worth of items in this room.
Milly was calmly handling that huge transaction.
”Wow, Lady Miriallia… to handle a transaction of 20 gold coins so easily…”
Aurelia, born into nobility, couldn’t hide her surprise.
I felt too scared to ask how much Milly’s total assets were, considering how ultra-rich she was.
Once the transaction was done, the hired hands from the Guild outside began to carry the materials out of the room on carts.
We left Feria behind as the person in charge and headed to the next guest room to clean up the rest.
”This room… is it the equipment room?”
When I opened the door, swords and armor were scattered all over the place.
”I’m sorry, it’s not very tidy. I could manage the main building by myself, but I couldn’t clean up the materials and equipment without Lady Miriallia’s instructions, so I couldn’t get to it.”
Annabella bowed her head apologetically.
I wanted to say that managing both the main building and this annex by herself would be too much for her, but I figured she’d just say that was her job, so I held back.
”The stuff crammed in this room is equipment I won’t use anymore or weapons and armor that don’t fit me. There are also equipment items I’ve been saving from another world monsters I defeated in quests. I thought I’d give them to my teammates once I had some, but since I was a solo hunter until Kent came along, they just kept piling up. If you want anything, feel free to take it, but there’s a lot of junk. Some of the armor is for men, and I’m planning to get new equipment for everyone, so if you’re going to pick something, stick to weapons. The rest, we’re thinking of selling.”
Hearing Milly’s words, Aurelia’s eyes sparkled as she began to rummage through the room.
It seems Annabella has also started looking for her weapon.
Lina and Lana began searching for a staff together.
Since everyone was looking, I decided to organize and search for my own weapon as well.
”L-Lady Miriallia… this sword is the Sword of the Diamond King, right? It costs at least 3 gold coins, but are you really going to sell it?!”
”If you want it, I can give it to you. Remember, equipment is fully funded. But as expected of Aurelia, that’s probably the most expensive thing in this room. Lucky you.”
”Really! Is it okay?! The Sword of the Diamond King will be my beloved sword, hee hee.”
Aurelia was grinning with a silly face, drawing the sword and rubbing it against her cheek.
”Elder Sister, where did you get this Inferno Magic Staff?”
Lina was holding a long red staff adorned with flame designs and was asking Milly.
”Wait a minute… um, I think it probably came from another world monster… maybe the owner was devoured, and only the staff was left undigested. Don’t worry, it’s been cleaned thoroughly.”
Hearing Milly’s answer, Lina looked shocked but seemed determined to take the staff since she really wanted it.
Lana, who was searching for a staff with Lina, apparently didn’t find anything good.
”Lady Miriallia, I would like to use this beautiful mace…”
Annabella was holding a mace with a spiked spherical head.
I thought it was the weapon called Morning Star from that other world.
”The Starlight Mace, huh? Ms. Annabella is going with a bludgeoning weapon. Since you’re primarily a shield user, you’re not required to have high damage, and choosing a bludgeoning weapon to deal with opponents that can’t be cut is a good choice.”
”Then I’ll use it without hesitation.”
It seemed Annabella decided to use the mace.
And it looked like Feria had joined us after finishing up with the materials.
”Everyone’s being unfair! I want it too!”
Latecomer Feria started browsing.
After a while, she pulled out a Double-Edged Axe that was about a meter long.
”Ms. Miriallia, I can just chop the monsters with this, right?”
”Oh, Feria, you chose a rare weapon. This weapon, if you press this mechanism here…”
When Milly pressed the protrusion in the center of the axe, it split into 2, becoming a One-Handed Axe.
”It became 2! Amazing, so cool!”
”It’s called a Twin Battle Axe, a bit of an unusual weapon. It can be used as both a 2-handed axe and a one-handed axe, so you can switch depending on the situation.”
Feria was showing off the Twin Battle Axe like a child who just got a toy.
However, Aurelia seemed to be in a different world, still rubbing her cheek against her sword.
Come back to this side (Grimoire).
While that was happening, I realized I was the only one who hadn’t chosen a weapon.
Before I could decide, the Blacksmith, who was supposed to take the items, arrived.
”Little lady Milly, it’s generous of you to offer unwanted equipment instead of payment. I’ll pick whatever I want without hesitation.”
A muscular, bald middle-aged man approached with heavy footsteps.
”Mr. Golerg, is that thing going well? If you need more funds, I can add as much as you want.”
”Surprisingly, it looks like I’ll gather the materials quickly, so don’t worry about the payment; I’ll take it with this equipment.”
The muscular middle-aged man, called Golerg, told Milly that and then started evaluating the equipment in the room.
We also helped Golerg load the equipment he would take back onto his cart.
After finishing his evaluation, Golerg sorted through the scattered equipment.
”The appraisal fee is fine as a service. The items on the left side of the pile can be put on the market, but the few items on the right side are too dangerous to sell, so Little lady Milly should keep them.”
Golerg was advising Milly.
I was very intrigued by a finely crafted dagger housed in a silver sheath among the few pieces of equipment on the right side.
”Was there really something that dangerous mixed in? I thought I was being careful about that.”
”Especially that silver dagger; it’s a creation from another world. Even I can’t understand how it’s made. So, it’s better not to sell it.”
”If Mr. Golerg says so, then we shouldn’t sell it. I’ll put the items on the right side in storage. Now, I’ll take the items that are going to storage. The remaining equipment will be sold to the Hunter Guild, so I’ll leave the transaction to Ms. Annabella.”
After saying that, Milly headed towards the main building with the equipment that was considered dangerous.
Mr. Golerg was discussing the deal with Annabella and the appraiser from the Hunter Guild.
Since Milly had entrusted everything to Annabella, she didn’t seem too concerned about the price.
I thought it would be settled soon, so I started moving the piled-up equipment out first.
By the time the transaction was finalized, the room was neatly cleaned up.
”Mr. Golerg, thank you for your help. I’m looking forward to the completion of that thing soon.”
Milly, back from the storage, thanked Golerg.
”Yeah, I’ll definitely have it done by the time of the Hunting Group’s founding ceremony, so just wait for me. Now, I’m heading home.”
Golerg left with the same heavy footsteps he had when he arrived.
The appraiser from the Hunter Guild, having finished the deal, was rubbing their hands together with a satisfied expression.
”Now, for the purchase of the equipment, we’ll offer you 68 gold coins. Should I also note this in your account?”
”Oh, it didn’t get that high, did it? It seems Mr. Golerg took quite a few good things with him. He seems to have brought enough to cover the costs properly.”
”Then, if you include what Mr Golerg brought, we could probably add over 80 gold coins.”
”But well, that’s fine. It’s equipment that we probably won’t use anyway.”
”Thank you so much for selling us the materials and equipment today.”
The appraiser bowed their head.
”Don’t worry about it; I just cleared out some unnecessary stuff.”
When Milly said that, the appraiser deeply bowed and started to prepare to leave.
”Anyway, we secured a room at the lodge. It ended up being past noon. So, shall we have lunch for now? In the afternoon, let’s split into the cleaning team and the office work team, Milly.”
I asked about lunch and the afternoon plans.
”I’ll go with Kent’s schedule. The cleaning team will be Kent, Aurelia, and Lana. And the office work team will be me, Annabella, Lina, and Feria.”
I tilted my head at Milly’s arrangement.
Personally, I thought Lana and Feria’s teams were clearly switched.
”Milly, isn’t it the other way around for Lana and Feria…?”
”Kent, we need to let them try it out first; otherwise, we won’t know their abilities. Feria might have incredible office work skills.”
I thought Milly had a point, so I agreed to the team assignments and headed back to the main house for lunch.
