Volume 2 Chapter 42 Bow And Gun

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

By the afternoon, my excitement over acquiring the Magician and Healer jobs in the morning had intensified even more.

So, I decided to grab Manon, who had just returned home for a meal after practicing her bow, and ask her to be my teacher.

”Manon, I want to ask you to join me for something…”

As I spoke, Manon jumped slightly and turned to face me.

”W-Wait, Sir Kent. I’m on my period, so… I can’t really engage right now-nya… but if it’s with my hands or mouth… I might be okay with that-nya.”

It seemed that Manon thought I had called her over because I was feeling randy during the day and wanted to have some fun with her.

Having lived like a stud for a while, this perception she had of me was probably a result of my usual behavior.

”No, no, that’s not it. I’m asking because I want to practice archery, and if you’re feeling okay, I thought it’d be helpful if you could act as my teacher.”

”Oh, I see-nya… I totally thought you were going to say, ‘Let me borrow your thighs so I can get off!’ and drag me into a room for some adult play, so I was a bit panicked. But if it’s just for bow practice, then I should be fine-nya.”

Her words gave me a glimpse of how I was perceived in her eyes.

I tried to behave like a gentleman… but as I reflected on my recent actions, I realized that while I might be a gentleman, it might also come with the added label of ‘pervert.

This is something that needs to be improved as soon as possible.

”I wouldn’t say something like that… Hahaha. You can be my archery teacher.”

 I smiled at Manon.

After that, the two of us were together at the shooting range for bows and guns that had been built for Red Valkyrie in the Blackdagger family’s garden.

Looking into the garden, I saw Giuliana running on the grass with a dozen or so members of Red Valkyrie.

As Giuliana took over as the leader of the Hunting Group, she participated in the training day required for the members.

From a distance, I could hear Giuliana’s loud voice.

”Hey! You at the very back! Right now, you’re being turned into monster bait. If you don’t want to die, RUN! If you stop, you’ll die!”

She was slapping the butt of a girl who was running at the back and looked like she was about to start walking.

It seems Giuliana imposes a Spartan-style training on the members.

Still, the outfits that Giuliana and the other members of Red Valkyrie are wearing look nothing but like gym clothes and bloomers. Is my head contaminated by some kind of germ?

Moreover, the white gym uniform is tightened around the chest area, leaving the stomach fully visible, and the bloomers are so tight they seem to dig into the flesh of their butts.

”Is that the training outfit ordered by Lady Miriallia-nya? It looks easy to move in, perfect for the upcoming season… I think I’ll wear that outfit when I train too-nya.”

I couldn’t help but be concerned about the bouncing chests of the Red Valkyrie members as they continued running, and how their bloomers dug in.

Since I was watching them from a distance without my glasses, I found myself doing a face check on a girl with a physique I liked.

 Not good!

 This is not good!

I brought my thoughts, which were about to drift towards perversion, back to focus, and with a heavy heart, I put my glasses on and turned to head to the shooting range for archery practice.

”Alright, Manon. Shall we start our training too? By the way, how do you draw a bow?”

”Sir Kent has never even touched it, has he-nya? Well, first spread your legs and make sure they are parallel.”

As Manon, the teacher, says, spread your feet shoulder-width apart and stand parallel to each other.

”You’re amazing-nya. Now, please raise your bow-holding hand up to your shoulder-nya.”

As Manon told me, I raised my hand holding the bow to shoulder level.

I had a lighter bow chosen for me, but it still felt heavy when I held it in one hand.

”Next, please draw the hand that’s pulling the string, the draw hand, back to your chin. At this time, don’t move the pushing hand-nya.”

I held my pushing hand steady, while drawing the string with my draw hand until it was under my chin.

Thanks to Manon adjusting the string for me, who wasn’t accustomed to the bow, I was able to pull it back quite easily.

”At this time, it’s important to keep the left hand, right hand, and the elbow of the draw hand in a straight line when viewed from above-nya. This straight line action is called ‘keeping the arrow line’-nya. If this arrow line isn’t straight, it’ll be almost impossible to hit the target-nya.”

”Oh, I see. That sounds pretty difficult. I thought it was just about pulling and letting go.”

”If you’re in a large-scale group battle and don’t need to hit a small target, that’s okay-nya. But the basic principle of using a bow as a hunter is aimed shooting-nya.”

Manon, who had circled around behind me while I was holding the bow drawn, straightened up my back, which had been slouched.

”Also, posture is important-nya. Sir Kent tends to slouch, so please consciously keep your back straight-nya.”

 ”Okay, Miss Manon!”

”Alright then, Sir Kent. Now all you have to do is relax the strength in your draw hand, and the arrow will shoot out, so go ahead and try it.”

I let go of the string of the bow without an arrow.

 Whoosh.

”For now, this is the basics of shooting a bow-nya.”

Continuing from that, I nocked an arrow and repeated the previous motion.

Then, I pulled the tightly drawn bowstring and released it towards the target 5 meters away.

 Whoosh.

The arrow was shot to the right of the target and pierced the earthen wall.

”Oh, it didn’t hit. It was so close! “

”If Sir Kent hits the target right from the start, Sir Kent will stop practicing-nya. If you don’t practice your bow every day, your skill will quickly deteriorate-nya.”

Manon, who had begun practicing her own archery at a shooting range 2 meters away, was shooting arrows at a single point on the target from a distance of 20 meters, 4 times that of me.

For someone like Manon, who does 100-meter sniper practice, it must feel like shooting up close.

After being shown Miss Manon’s technique, I shot arrows dozens of times, and I got to the point where I could hit the target once every 5 shots at 5 meters.

However, there’s no way this is a usable weapon level for real combat, so I thought I should practice archery every day as part of my morning routine.

”Let’s just leave it at this for today-nya. The quickest way to improve in archery is to practice every day-nya.”

As Manon and I collected the arrows we used, we talked about archery practice.

”I see, it’s not so easy to get a [Hunter] job, huh? This really made me realize how much practice I need.”

Despite practicing archery for nearly 2 hours, I was unable to acquire the [Hunter] job.

Since it was my first time handling this weapon and I lacked the base experience points, it seems I can’t easily acquire it like I could with [Swordsman] or [Scout].

If I continue practicing for a few more days, there’s a chance I could acquire the [Hunter] job through weapon experience points, so I decided to keep up the training.

Once we finished cleaning up, Manon said she had some errands and took her equipment back to the mansion.

With nothing to do, I was about to watch Giuliana and others mock battling on the ground when someone called out to me.

”Excuse me, but you’re Sir Kent, right? I’m sorry if I’m wrong, but I only caught a glimpse of you at the Red Valkyrie registration meeting.”
