Volume 3 Chapter 12 The Ninth Eastern Great Wall Defense Battle – Day One

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The densely packed members of the assault team spread out into the space that had opened up in front of the castle gate.

I also dodged the charge of the little boar (Woolly) that came at me alone and drove my spear into its side.

Looking around, Giuliana was smashing the ground with a huge hammer, causing large cracks in the earth, and knocking monsters down into the depths; the ground returned to normal afterwards.

It was as if the enemies had vanished into thin air, as if no one had ever been there to begin with.

 Whoa, that’s a brutal weapon.

But won’t using that leave no Materials behind?

Even though it’s an emergency, I thought to myself that I was being stingy. But after watching for a while, Materials started appearing as if they were bubbling up from the ground.

Oh, so Materials can indeed bubble up from the ground.

 This is a relief.

Since it’s a source of funds for special rewards.

I want to collect them safely when the time is right…

As I found myself lost in thought during the battle.

A goblin was attempting to leap at me, taking advantage of my lapse in attention.

 ”Sir Kent! Watch out!”

As Annabella struck the goblin that was about to pounce on me with her mace, the goblin’s skull caved in and it fell lifeless.

”Ah, thank you. I was just lost in thought for a bit. Sorry about that.”

”Sir Kent, this is a battlefield. Please save your thinking for after we pass through the castle gate.”

 ”Yeah, I’ll do that.”

”I’m glad you understand. Ines, Feria! Let’s move a bit further ahead.”

Annabella takes Ines and Feria and goes to fight the small group of monsters in front of me.

Annabella was fending off the enemy’s attacks, while Ines and Feria were finishing off the monster by chopping off its head when it lost its balance.

The scene was like a group of people working together in perfect harmony, like doing household chores, and the small group was defeated in an instant.

”Hurrah! The Blackdagger family’s Maid Warriors are the strongest!”

”Ms. Feria, everyone is watching. I’m so embarrassed”

Feria was holding up the head of the monster he had slain and letting out a roar.

Ines, who was next to me, shrank back in embarrassment.

 It’s Feria.

Rather than just being called Maid Warrior, that makes her more of an Amazon.

Next time, maybe I should ask Golerg to make a bikini armor for her…

While I was thinking that, I was bashing the goblin that had charged at me with my shield, keeping an eye on Feria’s movements from the corner of my vision.

On the other hand, Milly seemed to prefer fighting alone; she moved away from the vanguard and was darting between the monsters deeper in, swiftly decapitating them one after another.

Since there were only low-level monsters around, none of them could attack Milly; they all fell prey to her daggers and small knives, littering the grasslands with corpses.

”Milly! Don’t overdo it! We’ve still got a long way to go!”

It seemed she heard my voice and responded with a light wave of her hand.

She looked to be doing fine.

After a while, as the circle of the vanguard widened and the materials from the monsters began to scatter around, the expanded circle matched the range illuminated by the light balls Milly had launched.

It’s about time to pull back…

Looking around, I noticed more people in the vanguard were getting lightly injured.

I wanted to wrap it up before anyone ended up severely injured to the point they couldn’t walk.

I signaled Manon, who was nearby firing arrows, to prepare the retreat signal arrow.

”Manon, it’s about time to get ready to withdraw. Prepare the signal arrow.”

 ”Understood-nya!”

Manon notched the signal arrow to her bow and launched it into the sky.

 Peeeeeeeep!

The sound of the retreat signal echoed across the grassland that had become the battlefield.

”Okay! Let’s retreat. Don’t panic. Aida’s troops are in front of the castle gate to provide reinforcements. While closing the circle, head inside the gate starting with those who are lightly injured. I, Annabella, Milly, and Beatrice will be in the rear guard.”

The assault team, having devoured the monsters that had gathered in the center, narrowed the circle that had been expanded under my orders.

Meanwhile, the monsters were wounded and weak, scattering in all directions, greatly reducing their numbers, and the number of new ones attacking the assault force was limited.

The 4 of us who remained as the rear guard walked toward the castle gate, mowing down the monsters that approached us.

Even though their numbers are decreasing, there are still several hundred of them squirming within the visible range.

As we reached the city gate, the monster flinched thanks to Aida’s covering fire.

Taking advantage of that moment, I unleashed ‘Stone Blast’ without chanting.

 Boom! Boom!

Because I used No Chant, its power is low, but it has enough force to stop the monster’s advance.

Meanwhile, we began running towards the city gate.

 ”Now! Rush in!”

Annabella, Milly, I, and Beatrice started running.

The monsters, having taken their positions, ran headlong toward us through the hail of bullets and arrows.

Then, in a panic, Beatrice tripped and fell.

”Beatrice!! Milly and Annabella, don’t stop! Keep running! That’s an order!”

The two hesitated for a moment, but followed my ‘order’ and rushed toward the city gate.

I lifted the fallen Beatrice and threw her toward Milly at the city gate.

”Kent, that was rough! I’ll demand an apology later!”

Beatrice, caught by Milly, was angry.

However, the monster was closing in right behind me.

Looks like I don’t have time to escape…

I discarded my spear, shouldered my Elitzina, and started firing bullets at the monster.

”I’ll hold them off, so close the city gate! You two over there, hurry and get inside!”

I advised the members of Aida’s team, who were rescuing me in front of the castle gate, to retreat, but the gate was closed to my surprise.

”You’ll be left behind if you dawdle…”

I shoot bullets at the approaching monster and approach the two who were too late to escape.

”No, this is a leader’s order, so Sir Kent, hold on to me.”

I grabbed her, half in doubt, and pulled the rope to signal.

I was suddenly seized by the sensation that my body was floating in the air.

The girl next to him seems to have been pulled up as well.

Underfoot, monsters unable to move due to being blocked by the castle gates, fall prey to bullets, arrows, and stones, piling up corpses.

I also shot all my remaining bullets at the monster.

”You’re amazing, Aida. Thank you too. You really helped me out.”

I, pulled up on top of the wall, thanked the Gunsmith’s girl.

Then, I joined up with everyone.

After that, the tally of the battle results began on top of the wall.

”My lord, the archers sustained no damage and seemed to have taken down about 1,100. Although about ten bows are no longer usable, we have an ample supply of backups, so it shouldn’t be a problem. We still have plenty of arrows stockpiled as well. Right now, we’re letting everyone take turns for a quick nap.”

 Akebus quickly finished the report.

I was satisfied that we had exterminated over a thousand monsters without any losses.

”I see, good work. Please continue to stay vigilant.”

 ”Understood.”

 Next, Aida reported.

”Kent. That was a close call. Well, we don’t actually dislike someone like you.”

I felt embarrassed, so I urged Aida to continue with the report.

 ”Aida, what’s the report?”

”Yes, yes. We also had no losses and no gun malfunctions. We used quite a bit of ammo this time, so there’s about 250 rounds left per person. We should have taken down roughly 400 to 500 enemies. Right now, I’m having everyone reload. It seems Kerstin has also obtained the [Gunsmith] job. I’ve never seen anyone acquire it in such a short time before. She must have had a talent for it.”

”Oh, so Kerstin is a [Gunsmith]…”

”Since she’s a Majin, she levels up quickly, and right now she’s helping to make ammunition.”

It’s a blessing to have more people able to supply ammunition.

I think this assault would not have succeeded without the firepower of Aida and her team.

”I see. I don’t mind using magic stones, but please stock up on bullets as much as possible. Thank you.”

”Understood. Also, the girl with the gun who helped Kent earlier was happy that she was embraced by Sir Kent, but you didn’t make her a Carrier, did you?”

I was shocked for a moment, but when I checked the log, I found that she had not been made into a carrier, so I told Aida about it.

”Don’t worry. I wouldn’t lay hands on someone so random… hahaha”

”Really? She’s cuter than me, so I thought Kent liked her.”

 What… that’s something I can’t stand to hear… She’s cuter than Aida.

Once this defense is over, let’s check it out from a distance.

…No, maybe a magic mirror room would be better.

Having gained a new desire, I found myself filled with motivation that could break the meter.

After finishing her report, Aida walked to the barracks where she would make her own bullets.

Next, Milly came to report about the assault team.

”The casualties of the assault team are ten with minor injuries, and two of them need to rest, but treatment has been completed. And it seems we were able to take down between 900 and 1000 monsters. Thanks to Lina’s magic, the monsters that were gathered into small groups were picked off one by one by the assault team, which contributed to our success.”

”Well then, we should definitely offer a special reward…”

”That’s right. It would be fine if Kent pays for the Crimson Bride members with his body, but the girls from Red Valkyrie who participated in the assault team would probably be happy if we give them the right to live in this facility, right? Since we plan to have them live here anyway.”

”I see, so a place to live is better than cash. We can let them choose what they prefer.”

”Red Valkyrie intends to build a new office and dormitory here, so they would probably be pleased if we offered that as a privilege, right?”

 ”Yes, let’s do that.”

After deciding on the contents of the reward, I focused on eliminating the current monsters so that we could implement that reward.

During the several hours of this offensive, we managed to defeat 2500 out of 5000 vanguard monsters, and out of the remaining 2500, only about 1000 appeared to be maintaining fighting spirit and coordination, while the rest were just wandering around the grasslands.

Despite being weak enemies, our defeat of a group of 5 thousand monsters with less than 100 and 50 of us had boosted everyone’s morale.

Also, when I checked the log just now, my [Combat Commander] job level had increased and I had acquired a new skill.

 Skill was [loud voice].

 Check the contents.

[Loud voice]…Combat instructions always reach allies. Consumes 10 skill points

It’s a skill I need right now, but I’m not sure.

But if the Resident Defense Force that will arrive tomorrow comes under my control, the scale will be larger.

At that time, I thought it would be a problem if the instructions didn’t reach them, so I used up some Skill points to acquire it.

With this, my voice can now reach allies who are quite far away.

After that, there were sporadic monsters approaching the wall, but since there were only dozens of them at most, I entrusted the defense of the wall to Akebus and tasked Milly and the others with scouting the enemy in the rear.

Then, after using Mana Transfer on the girl who had exhausted her magic while reloading ammunition, I headed to the public bath with Kerstin and Lina on either side of me, followed by Aida.

The Great Wall is a barrier that stretches continuously from the walls of Abyss Vena to the sea.

I would appreciate it if you could imagine something like the Great Wall of China.

This time, the small number of Kents won a great victory thanks to the high defensive wall and the enemy’s concentration on the castle gate.
