Volume 6 Chapter 11 Southern Crisis

The Western Language classroom (brainwashing) for the captured ogres was run by Giuliana and Nannie, who collected [Ring of Intelligence] from ogres that had learned Western Language and rotated them to newly untrained ogres for Equipment and sent them into the classroom.

As a result, it took about 2 weeks for all 8 hundred captured male and female ogres to be able to speak Western Language.

During that time, the encircling Ghost Clan was defeated by various Hunting Groups.

I armed the ogres who had been enslaved and had learned Western Language (brainwashing complete) and had them participate in the extermination of the encircling Ghost Clan.

The ogres participating in the extermination were made to wear [Cloaking Collars] as proof of my personal slaves (pets) and to eliminate the risk of monsterization from magic elements.

This group of ogres performed remarkably well.

They were born warriors, and their physical strength was believed to be the strongest among humanoids, second only to the Black Dragon tribe, and they were powerful.

When wielding 2-handed weapons like greatswords, large spears, and scythes, they mowed down goblins and kobolds as if cutting grass, and when equipped with large shields and heavy armor, they became a meat wall that shut out enemy attacks.

I decided to hire the group of ogres, who demonstrated high combat power, as members of a Private Hunting Group, with the condition that when they paid off their debts, I would arrange work according to their wishes.

I named this ogre Hunting Group ‘Red Devil.’

The members of the Hunting Group expressed their gratitude to me uniformly, with some even bursting into tears from joy and others fainting.

Since I had left the details of the Western Language Education (brainwashing) that Nannie and Giuliana conducted to them, I was too scared to question the content now.

However, it was decided that all Ogres who became members of the ‘Red Devil’ Hunting Group would receive their preferred Equipment, so orders for Ogre Equipment were placed at the Golerg workshop in Abyss Vena and at Equipment shops in Estfort, with Dragonewts airlifting the completed items.

The originally combative Ogres were pleased, but the cost of the supplied Equipment was firmly added to their debts.

To avoid future troubles, the supply was confirmed with the Ogres’ consent beforehand.

Lina questioned whether the Ogres, who received ‘high-level Equipment,’ understood that they would remain Kent’s slaves indefinitely unless they hunted monsters.

I only caught a glimpse of the content from the Western Language Education that Nannie and Giuliana conducted, so they might not have taught the meaning of debt.

I checked with the two acting as teachers, but both reported with cheerful smiles that they had provided ‘perfect Western Language Education,’ so I couldn’t pursue the matter further.

I decided to let it slide since the Ogres were happy and it would strengthen our forces.

Thus, the ten thousand Ghost Clan surrounding Felward vanished without a trace, leaving only the ‘another world monster’ that had flowed in from around the Abyss Gate to prey on the Ghost Clan, and the young beast monsters born from their hybridization with the monsterized Ghost Clan.

Meanwhile, in the hall of Felward Fortress, representatives from the Hunting Group and the military participating in the extermination operation had gathered.

”Still, to think that ten thousand Ghost Clan could be wiped out in just 2 weeks… When I was holed up, a thousand was the limit. Moreover, capturing 8 hundred Ogres and turning them into soldiers is an outrageous act that a normal human wouldn’t even consider.”

Garvey sighed at the achievements I had made in the defense of Felward.

”…Yeah, normally, it would be standard to hunt the ogres together since they are violating the treaty. I can’t tell if Kent is a fool or a great Lord.”

Soumei was exasperated by my ogre capture operation.

”Well, it’s fine, isn’t it? If Kent liked killing people, I wouldn’t have married off my precious Beatrice. Kent’s charm is that he loves people. The ogres seem to be quite enamored with Kent too. Hahaha.”

Matthew was giving a follow-up that I couldn’t quite tell if it was a compliment or an insult.

”More importantly, shouldn’t we be discussing the extermination of the beast monster larvae that have been breeding outside the castle and the ‘another world monsters’?”

Hendric asked with a slightly irritated tone.

This time, the ‘Golden Apostles’ had been the skirmishers outside the castle, so they had missed out on the ogre capture operation and lost out on earnings.

Because of that, I had heard that Hendric was in a really bad mood.

”Right. As Mr. Hendric said, we’ve finished off the Ghost Clan, so let’s discuss what to do next with the monsters that have gathered around the corpses, the ‘another world monsters’, and the beast monster larvae that have interbred with the Ghost Clan.”

I decided to proceed with the conversation carefully to avoid further upsetting Hendric.

”First, let’s have a report on the reconnaissance results. Ludmila, please.”

I had Ludmila, who was in charge of reconnaissance, report on the enemy situation.

”Ah, yes. Then I will report. According to the reconnaissance, there are about 4 hundred to 5 hundred monsters, including shell gunners, longhorn beetles, storm dogs, and fire falcons, gathering as the main forces. They are currently scavenging the corpses of the Ghost Clan, but they will soon head towards the ‘another world monsters’.”

”Whoa, a formation that can handle both long-range and close combat on land and air. Having storm dogs in there is just cruel!”

Garvey was confused upon hearing the composition of the monsters.

”Next, we have ‘another world monster’. The Small-sized ones mainly consist of Silver Ants and Silver Rats, totaling around 3 hundred. Medium-sized ones include Silver Mantises, Silver Giants, and Silver Wolves, amounting to about 2 hundred. There are around 50 large individuals resembling masses of tentacles. Reinforcements from the Abyss Gate seem to have stopped.”

”…Tentacles? …Those are Predation Tentacles. There are 50 of them…Hey, Kent. We need to crush them quickly or the southern region will be swarming with beast monsters. They use the females they’ve preyed on as nurseries, mass-producing beast monsters.”

Soumei’s face changed color upon hearing Ludmila’s report.

”Seriously…Mr. Soumei, how quickly do beast monster younglings hatch?”

”They hatch in a day. That’s 50 of them. It’s a nightmare. Beast monster younglings are as strong as Medium-sized individuals when they’re born. Once they grow, they’ll become as strong as that which Kent knows.”

Upon hearing Soumei’s words, I felt a chill run down my spine.

It was the first time I had heard that beast monster younglings could be born in just a day.

”This is way more troublesome than the Ghost Clan. The idea that ‘another world monster’ Medium-sized individuals could increase by 50 each day is a nightmare.”

”If that’s the case, we must first defeat the Predation Tentacles…otherwise, any other battles will be almost meaningless.”

Both Milly and Garvey had dark expressions.

”Ludmila, where are the Predation Tentacles located?”

”Yes… unfortunately, the small-sized and medium-sized individuals have taken position in the center, solidifying their defenses in a circular formation. My ‘Black Wing’ attempted a dive-breath attack, but the young beast monsters shielded their parent by putting themselves in harm’s way, and it was blocked.”

”So, it’s no good from above…”

”Yes, and the monsters are also being drawn in by the scent of the predation tentacles and are starting to gather around the outer perimeter.”

The monsters are gathering as if being drawn in while scavenging the corpses…

While it is possible to enter from above, it would be meaningless if we cannot defeat the crucial predation tentacles.

Even if we were to attack head-on, it seemed unlikely that we could secure the necessary strength to annihilate the enemy with our current forces.

”…What should we do? Just leave it like this?”

Milly asks in a voice that sounds like she has given up.
