”Onee-chan!” Nana cried out. “I’m sorry, Haruto-kun… I didn’t bring you here for that reason.”
”But Nana!” Suzume stepped forward, voice trembling. “If your leg can get even a little better—”
”That’s enough!” Haruto said firmly, cutting him off. “Both of you, let’s calm down for a second.”
During his residency, Haruto had seen families like Nana’s more than once—people clinging to hope even when the one hurt had already given up.
Maybe Nana was being honest. Maybe she really hadn’t meant for things to go this way.
But deep down, Haruto felt that Suzume-san had always intended for him to look at Nana’s leg.
”Are you attending rehab now?” Haruto asked, turning to Nana gently.
”Haruto-kun…” Nana said quickly, her voice soft. “Let’s talk about that later.”
The air in the director’s office turned cold. The mood was heavy, awkward.
Trying to lift it, Haruto shifted the topic.
”By the way, when did you come back? Was it another job transfer for your dad?”
”…Ah. Yes. Something like that.”
(Something like that…? Wait… I made it worse, didn’t I…?)
”Nana,” Suzume said quietly. “Since wehe’ll be supporting you from now on, you should talk about it.”
”…Yeah.”
”Oh! But don’t force yourself if you’re not ready,” Haruto said quickly, waving his hands.
”It’s not like that…” Nana whispered.
And slowly, Nana began to speak.
She had moved to Hokkaido for high school.
But on the very first day, she was in an accident. When she woke up, she couldn’t move her lower body. No sensation. No strength.
But the worst was still to come.
Her parents—who had gone with her for the entrance ceremony—passed away in that same accident.
After that, Nana stopped going to school.
She was taken in by relatives for a while, until her older sister graduated from university and brought her home.
From that point, the two sisters started living together.
With time, Nana slowly began to recover—inside, not her body, but her heart.
She felt like she couldn’t just stay helpless forever.
She decided to try working.
She applied for a job through a company that hired people with disabilities. Somehow, she passed the interview and was hired.

But the company that hired Nana wasn’t kind.
In truth, some companies only accept disabled employees to receive government subsidies. They don’t prepare the environment or support their workers at all.
Even basic things—like using the bathroom in a wheelchair—became a struggle.
Nana, who had finally found the courage to move forward, ended up quitting.
Watching her break down again, Suzume made a decision.
She would take Nana back—to the town where they’d lived during elementary school.
A place full of warm memories.
A place where Nana’s heart could finally rest.
Thanks to her sister, Nana began to recover once more.
She visited Hello Work, searching for a new job.
There, she found it—a listing posted by Haruto himself.
At first, she hadn’t told him that they were classmates.
She didn’t want him to see her like this.
She was scared he’d treat her differently. That he’d pity her.
So, she stayed quiet.
”That’s why… I barely have any work experience,” Nana said, looking down.
”I see…” Haruto nodded. “But even just talking like this, I can tell you’ll be fine. It doesn’t matter if you have experience or not.”
That was all he could say.
He’d wondered before—why she never replied to his letter back then.
But never once did he imagine this was the reason.
”So… Nana hasn’t really done rehab yet,” Suzume said softly. “I’ll pay for it. So please, could you help her?”
”Onee-chan…” Nana whispered.
Haruto stood up, his voice steady.
”Understood! I’ll handle Nana’s rehabilitation from here on!”

• Nana – The one dating Haruto before she goes to Hokkaido.
• Suzume – Female. Nana’s companion, who is just as beautiful as Nana. She has a husky voice, which makes her age and relationship to Nana (sister) slightly ambiguous. She is supportive and polite, accompanying Nana to the job interview.
