Rerobaku 121

Chapter 121 Damn, That Was Unnecessary…

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Because the knights and riders guarding him had done their job too well, Ayumu could not slip away during the confusion of a bandit attack. Instead, he was dragged straight into an audience with Empress Sarendra, who looked hysterical, her hair wild with rage.

”With so many royal physicians and imperial mages here, what were you all doing?! You useless fools!!!”

Her furious voice shook the great hall where everyone had been gathered.

(This… someone is definitely going to be punished…)

That was how murderous her aura felt.

(Damn those knights and riders… they really messed things up for me…)

 ”Ah… Sanai!! You finally returned?!”

As soon as Empress Sarendra saw him, she let out a relieved cry, as if her savior had arrived. But the royal physicians and imperial mages immediately shouted—

”Your Majesty! It’s him! This is the one responsible!!”

”Yes! That boy must have held back during treatment of Crown Prince Aare, just to claim glory for himself! We were set up!!”

”That’s right! The prince’s sickness must be this brat’s curse!!”

They were desperate to save themselves, even throwing out wild conspiracy claims.

”What…! Such horrible things to say! Please stop speaking on baseless assumptions!!”

Still, he knew he could not relax. If Empress Sarendra believed them, he would be the one punished. Even though this was in front of the empress, he thought it best to argue back clearly, so he raised his voice.

”For one thing! The last time I met Crown Prince Aare was over a month ago! There is no reason at all to slander me!! More likely, it was your home visits that were insufficient, wasn’t it?”

But that only made things worse.

The physicians and mages grew angrier, shouting louder and louder. “What did you say, you brat?!!!”

”Don’t mock us!!! It’s because we noticed His Highness’s change so quickly that he is still alive! You fraud!!”

They hurled insults at him, words so foul he could barely believe his ears.

Thinking calmly, he realized—there was no way a mere student like him could win an argument against these educated adults in this world.

Their furious rage made him feel like they would tear him apart. Knowing he was at a disadvantage, he judged instantly and stammered out in a trembling voice,

”Eeeek?! Th-th-this discussion is pointless! I-it won’t help to argue with you here! I will go check Crown Prince Aare’s condition right awayyy!!!”

With that, he rushed out of the room, babbling and stumbling over his words.

It wasn’t running away, of course. (That was his excuse.)

Notes:

• Empress Sarendra – Aare’s mother who expresses quiet resentment towards Aare’s existence.
