Volume 2 Chapter 25 Quest: Azrael’s Pursuer II

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 (The pursuers──)

When he glanced back, Kian saw the 8 who had just killed his crow chasing after him.

They were all covered in blood.

 With a terrifying obsession.

 Not normal at all.

(The streets are becoming sparser compared to the market street. With this…)

Kian reached out to the magic sword that emitted a foreboding sound, as if sobbing behind him.

 Windsong Blade.

It was the magic sword he had obtained by defeating the knight who could become a dragon──Renaud de Châtillon.

The silver blade was riddled with countless holes, and the wind passing through produced eerie sounds like human voices.

Its unique and large straight sword appearance could even be considered grotesque by some.

If stood upright, it would reach about Kian’s chest in length.

(If I were to draw this, it would be time to counterattack)

His eyes narrowed slightly beneath the ‘glasses.’

He carefully waited for the opportunity, knowing that a single strike after drawing it could heavily damage the enemy.

 ”────”

Responding to Kian’s magic power tinged with killing intent, the magic sword wrapped a whirlwind of white wind around its blade.

The sound of the wind was constantly changing.

A thin, high-pitched sound, like a woman’s scream, reverberated from the Windsong Blade.

 ”Run without worrying about me”

He called out to Christy and the others.

The 8 pursuers from behind pushed the passersby’s shoulders away and caught up with him.

 ”Ayyad, Ghali!”

Kian had been paying attention to the pursuers behind him, but the sudden sound of the word “magic” made him look up to his right.

 It was the insect master.

The chubby man hiding under the roof of a tent in a street stall in treet and controlling bee-like insects.

He was jumping across the roofs of the houses on West Street with agility that was incongruous to his physique.

A swarm of bees like a black cloud all around him.

He then let go of the pipe he was holding and a puff of white smoke blew out of his mouth.

 ”Yeah, yeah!”

 ’Kiannn!’

 ”…Tsk…”

Following the Insect master’s command, the black flying insects rush in all at once.

 ”Don’t mess with me!”

”──Christy, just run, you’re in the way”

 ”Hey, you──”

The black-haired female magician said something back, but Kian couldn’t hear it anymore.

At the end of the West Street, at the corner, a large leap following Maribel and Christy, they emerged onto the central avenue.

In terms of the route, all that’s left is to go straight ahead to reach the heart of the East End, the area where the Adventurer’s Guild and the guard’s station are located.

By the way, along the way, they had passed by guards and adventurers here and there, but they hadn’t stopped to ask for help.

The reason they were being chased.

For now, he wanted an explanation but wanted it to remain hidden for the time being.

If they took the time to explain all that, they would be caught up with, and the low-level pursuers would be killed in one blow.

Unless they entered a small fortress where they could use the brute force of the guard’s station, it wouldn’t be a wise choice to spend time persuading them.

 ”Huh, …huh, ……huh!”

As soon as they reached the main street, Kian stopped and turned back.

 ”Kian?!”

Maribel’s voice was heard, but he ignored it.

He drew the Windsong Blade from the leather holder on his back.

 Whoosh!

An impossible gust of wind, according to the laws of nature, clung to Kian’s arm.

The belly of the sword reflected the sunlight, shining brightly and white.

The distorted sword with holes in it sucked in the raging storm and let out a sharp scream.

Like a mother crying for her lost child.

Or like the call of a Night Wraith, inviting the living to the graveyard.

As Kian held the sword horizontally, a swarm of black bees rushed at him like crooked arrows.

 ”Sword, be filled.”

The young man’s black pupils widened.

A part of the magic language engraved on the sword he held glowed orange, absorbing Kian’s magic power.

 ”Haaah!”

 He swung the sword sideways.

 The Windsong Blade screamed.

The wind that wrapped around the sword raged like a storm, forming a lump of wind and shooting out forcefully.

The small lump of wind blew away the swarm of insects and dispersed the strange white smoke that the insect master had exhaled.

 ”What, what’s going on?!”

 The other Azraelian man shout.

He turned to the insect master, whose eyes were wide in shock.

Kian raised the corners of his mouth and captivated the insects buzzing around as if they had lost their leader.

 ”Kill that guy!”

”────!? Stop it! Ayyad, Ghali, can’t you see I’m in trouble? Stop it!”

The man blew smoke again toward the insects that had lost control.

However, it should take time to regain control over them.

That was enough to seal the insect master.

”Kian, I see it! The Adventurer Guild!”

 ”Got it.”

Kian gave a brief response before strengthening the beaks and necks of the crows that could fly.

He then commanded them to charge toward the stained glass windows of the Adventurers’ Guild and the guards’ outpost.

The crows, who had been waiting in the sky, seemed to look at Kian with an expression of disbelief. “No way, are you serious!?” was what they seemed to be thinking.

However, the crows who had become ‘friends’ with Kian had no right to refuse. Kian once again unleashed a massive amount of magic power, ordering the crows he had enslaved to launch a full-on assault on the central buildings of the East End.

 ”What the──”

 ”Haaa!?”

 ”The crows! The crows!?”

When they had headed toward Spoon Wing on previous quest, there was some pretense of helping Kian, who was still in a way a ‘friend.’

However, this window glass charge was nothing but suicide.

Following Kian’s merciless orders, the crows relentlessly charged at the Adventurer’s Guild’s front door, the stained glass, and the window of the Guild leader’s room on the second floor where Friedrich was supposed to be.

The same could be said for the nearby guard outpost.

The guards rushed out to greet Kian and his group as they fled down the main street.

 ”There’s an assassin!”

 Maribel cried.

”I’m being chased by thugs! Please help me!”

”What? Crows? That’s terrible. A mass suicide of crows?!”

Maribel’s words didn’t reach the guard, who seemed surprised at first by the dead crow, but her coming out was enough to intimidate the assassins.

Kian stopped running and prepared his magic sword to stand in front of their pursuer who was creeping out from the crowd.

”──! It’s the magic eye! Don’t look into his eyes!”

The first Azraelian man to crawl out shouted with a distorted expression around his eyes at Kian.

”Guards, please help us! The thugs over there are trying to harm us…!”

 ”Huh?”

The guard tilted his head as he looked down at Maribel, who was clinging to him.

Eight pursuers were lined up in a low stance in front of the square next to the Adventurers’ Guild.

They all had black hair and tanned skin.

Their faces were covered with cloth.

”What is going on? ……Your Excellency?”

 ”Friedrich!”

It had been worth aiming for the Guild Master’s office window.

From the main entrance of the Adventurers’ Guild, a man as thin as a skeleton descended the platform, flanked by a squad of battle-hardened Guild staff.

Seeing Maribel clinging desperately to a guard, Friedrich furrowed his brows. His sharp gaze then shifted to Kian, who stood ahead with his sword drawn, and to the eight assassins facing him. Once more, his commanding voice rang out, “What is the meaning of this?”

 ”The tables have turned.”

Kian grinned while pushing up his ‘glasses’ with his fingers.

’The instigator of the commotion seems to be saying something with pride.’

”Damn it… What should we do?”

The man standing in front of Kian asked the neighboring assassin.

 ”Fall back for now.”

 It was a woman’s voice.

The woman who seemed to be the leader of the group quickly glanced at the other 7 members and the insect master on the roof, then shouted again.

 ”Retreat! Out of town!”

”Friedrich, please pursue them! If possible, try to capture at least one of them alive! “

”Your Excellency. Even so, we cannot fully understand the situation”

 ”Assassin”

Christy, who has been running too fast and is panting, lets out a hoarse voice.

”They are assassins who are after Manon. Don’t let them get away.”

 ”……”

When Friedrich looked up again, the 9 assassins had turned on their heels and plunged back into the crowd.

 ”Follow me!”

 ”No, Kian, but…”

Kian kicked the ground, ignoring the voices of the two.

He has no intention of letting them escape.

 Kill them all.

Thinking so, he sent a command to the crow in the sky to pursue them.
