Volume 2 Chapter 37 Invitation To Izerland Fortress III

And then.
The carriage travels along a smooth road for about 10 minutes.
Christy suddenly stood up and knocked on the glass window behind the backrest, making the driver stop the carriage.
”It’s okay to go home first. If Sir McCutchen asks, say that I’m showing a guest around the town.”
”Oh, are you going to show me around?”
”You asked me to show you around.”
”Thank you, Ms. Christy.”
”…Hurry up and get down!”
The lady magician rushed, and Kian opened the carriage door.
Since the carriage was painted black, no light came in, so when he stepped outside, the bright sunlight made his eyes squint.
Kian squinted but reached out his hand to Christy as she came down the steps of the carriage.
Christy stuck out her tongue and jumped down from the carriage, ignoring Kian’s hand.
”So hot…”
”It’s really warm, isn’t it?”
Kian replied and looked around the town of Izerland Castle again.
The cobbled street went uphill.
On both sides were beautiful stone buildings.
In the sky, there were ropes for drying laundry with many white cloths hanging down.
Through the gaps in the white cloths, he saw a tall stone tower far away.
That must be the main castle of Margrave Izerland.
”────”
He doesn’t know where in the town this street was, but it was about as wide as a central street in the East End.
That is, 2 carriages can run side by side.
The population density is higher than in the East End, with white-skinned westerners passing by and chatting noisily.
There are many different races.
Humans, Beastmen, dwarves.
Occasionally, elves could be seen doing business.
Half and quarter races with mixed blood are seen here and there.
The color of streets is mostly white.
Compared to the East End, with its colorful roofs, it has an inorganic and personalityless image.
Weapon shops, clothing stores, and other stores were lined up in an orderly fashion, and like the huge castle Wall outside, it was a ‘planned city’ that had been carefully constructed with calculations and earth magic.
The degree of development is about the same as the central street in the East End, but when you think that it is spread out endlessly on many sides within the fortress, it even gives rise to a sense of awe.
This town is smaller than Azrael’s town, but since it is the Margrave’s home, it is definitely different from other towns.
”Kian!”
Christy called him by name for the first time.
When he turned around, she was standing on the steps of a big white decayed shop under the Margrave’s red flag.
She still looked very annoyed.
”This is it. A clothing shop. Let’s go in here for now. If you don’t like it, I can show you another place.”
”Thank you.”
”That’s fine, but… Are you buying clothes for your friends? What does it mean that you can’t buy clothes for yourself?”
He followed her into the clothing shop as she complained.
The person he was dressing was a ghost, so he didn’t need to worry about physical protection.
For now, he wanted clothes that would hide the body’s shape.
But…
Unfortunately, the first shop Christy showed him had clothes that didn’t match the mask Kian made last night at all.
There were nice shirts and pants made of good fabric, and the owner said he could make them if he paid extra, but what he wanted was colorful kimonos like the ones from the Eastern countries.
If he was going for a Franz Kingdom style, it would be better to wear a mask like the ones used at masquerade balls, as ‘glasses’ suggested.
’See? Just like this one said.’
(Don’t go around criticizing my sense of style every time. But…damn, it’s frustrating, but it seems that my design was really poor.)
It was a fairly hard mask to make, but he was wondering if he should carve a new one, when Christy, who was watching next to him, said, “Okay, let’s go out.”
He thanks the shopkeeper and leave the shop.
The two of them retreated to an alley behind the store so as not to get in the way of the flow of people.
The white sunlight shines through the back alley like sunlight filtering through the trees.
The white shadow of laundry in the sky.
That’s what’s blocking the sunlight.
In the air that was a little cooler than the main street, Christy put her hands on her hips and sighed.
”May I ask what kind of clothes you like? If you don’t even know that, I’m at a loss.”
”…The shop earlier had very nice clothes, and I could have found something good there.”
”You looked unhappy, though. Am I wrong?”
”……”
”I made a mistake by bringing you here without asking what you wanted. So? What kind of clothes do you like?”
Kian thought for a bit and then snapped his fingers.
”Clothes that fit these two familiars.”
When called by their master, the two ghosts that were hiding below answered right away.
As expected, they seemed to not like the sunlight, and black mist seeped from the ground, quietly rising in the shadowy back alley.
A red tengu mask and.
A white fox mask.
A large shadow and a small shadow formed a human shape in the back alley where the sunlight fell at an angle like pillars.
Christy opened her eyes wide.
”What…!?”
”Be quiet. Don’t make a fuss.”
”…! Ah, do you know what these things are!? Night Wraiths! Night Wraiths! Monsters that attack people!?”
”Yes. But they are my servants. They won’t attack anyone without my command.”
”B-but…”
Christy looked anxiously at the two black ghosts.
The two familiars, wearing red and white masks, literally stand there like shadows, not trying to move.
Combined with the pillars of sunlight descending on the back alley, it makes her feel as if she has wandered into another world.
The sounds of the crowds on the main street were far away, and the temperature in the alley had dropped due to the presence of the ghost.
Christy watched the ghosts for a while, and when she was convinced that they really weren’t going to attack, she returned her eyes timidly to Kian’s face.
”Who are you?”
”Are you finally interested in me?”
”You’re trying to play dumb? I’ve never heard of any magic to deal with ghosts! It’s not like taming a crow. They’re…”
Christy pointed to the Tengu mask with the tip of her stick.
”They are monsters and predators at heart. How do you tame the enemies of man?”
”I can tell you if you want. But you won’t ask for a free.”
”Compensation?”
”Yes, of course, right?”
When Kian said this, the black-haired witch shook her head softly.
”I’ll stop it. I’m not interested in magic that controls ghosts.”
”I would appreciate it if you could keep this to yourself.”
”…What if I tell?”
”Before that, I will have to make you ‘stop talking’.”
”────”
”I guess it’s clear that I am not just an ordinary person. Kuku…”
”You said that yourself, so why are you saying this? …Anyway, you wanted clothes for those 2 familiars, right?”
”Yes. It’s not just about the design… I need clothes that can also be worn by ghosts.”
Christy seemed to quickly change her mind.
She took a deep breath and moved closer to the two wraiths to start checking their mask designs and bone structures closely.
”…I see. You need thick clothes that block sunlight during the day and don’t let others see that they have no bodies.”
”I’m glad you’re quick to understand.”
”Certainly, if you want clothes for these two, the shop we went to earlier won’t have enough. They only sell regular shirts and pants.”
”I think if I layer the clothes, I can hide their body shapes.”
When Kian said that, Christy shook her head.
”If you want a ghost to sneak or teleport short distances, it might be a problem if they wear too many layers of clothing. Their movement is similar to the magic of teleportation that I use.”
”Really?”
”I’m not an expert, but I once read some literature in a library. I won’t go into the details, but if you layer clothes like a snowman, it will be difficult to hide underground or teleport a short distance when summoned. A mask won’t be a problem, but if they wear clothes thick enough to hide their body lines, they’ll need something made of special fibers.”
”Can I get it in the fortress?”
”Of course. If you can’t get it here, you’ll have to go to the royal capital. What’s your budget?”
”Up to 5 gold coins”
”That’s a bit tricky… Well, maybe we can negotiate it. Come with me. It’s a bit of a dodgy place, but I’ll introduce you to it.”
Christy said this and turned her back to Kian as she left the back alley.
Kian hid the two familiars back underground and followed the caring magician girl.
