Volume 2 Chapter 84 Azrael’s Death Sword User I
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The fortress in Châtillon Province was massive.
It was fortified with abundant stone and cement sourced from the surrounding area.
Renaud’s magicians embedded keystones and layered multiple magic power barriers.
Designed not only to block enemy teleportation but also to perfectly deflect great magic and projectiles from magician groups.
Just how many magicians were tasked with creating and maintaining this?
How much was being spent on defense?
Oswald’s finances seemed trivial compared to the serious fortifications in place.
Piercing through the night’s darkness, Kian muttered softly.
”The rear is a dense forest. The front is a winding coastline…”
”Welcome to my base. The fortress of Châtillon is a town of maritime trade and blacksmithing.”
Renaud said as he thoughtfully emerged from the halted carriage.
A relieved-looking Christy followed him out.
She must have spent an awkwardly tense moment with the Dragon Man inside the carriage.
She staggered towards Maribel, who had stepped onto the town road, taking Kian’s hand.
”Manon…”
”What is it, Christy?”
”It was super exhausting…. Lord Renaud was completely silent the whole time in the carriage!”
”Renaud isn’t fond of noisy conversations, you know.”
”Hmph, it’s not like I had anything to talk about with you witch, so there’s no reason to blame the silence.”
”Ugh…”
”There, there.”
While trying to soothe Christy, who clung to her as if not knowing who was the older sister, Maribel glanced at the carriage behind them.
”The drawbridge is up, so we can’t let monsters into the town.”
”My son will bring the carriage soon. The drawbridge will be lowered shortly.”
Just as Renaud finished replying, the drawbridge of the fortress city lowered with a heavy sound.
Maribel pretended to be casual and distanced herself from Christy.
The lingering scent of their intimacy was thoroughly removed by Natra’s magic, but it was possible that she might notice if he got too close.
After all, she wasn’t wearing any underwear beneath her dress.
It wouldn’t be surprising if a scent emanated from her groin.
When the drawbridge fully descended, the fortress gates opened, and a large carriage approached.
On the driver’s seat sat a big man in noble attire.
”My son!”
”──Father. It seems nothing happened on the way.”
A young man got out of the carriage and embraced Renaud.
He had the same fluffy black hair as the dragon man.
However, unlike Renaud, he didn’t sport a full mustache and seemed to have closely shaven it.
A light scent of men’s cologne wafted from his direction.
After separating from his father, the man walked towards them.
”Your Excellency. It’s been a while.”
”Good evening, Guy. I’m sorry for coming at such a late hour. They asked for a meeting before nightfall.”
”I have heard the circumstances. We are ready to welcome the envoy. Please come to my mansion within the castle.”
”Thank you.”
”Also, from Azrael’s side, we received a request for additional personnel for the delegation coming through the teleportation gate.”
”What? How many extra?”
”One. They say it’s a mercenary they personally hired, possessing the ability to break lies.”
The young man named Gi turned his yellow eyes towards Kian.
They were reptilian eyes, similar to Renaud’s when he was excited.
(This Guy fellow)
’Ah, just like Renaud, he’s not human.’
”They’re saying it’s to confirm whether Kian Vahid is truly the ‘Death Sword User.’”
”I’m fine with that. Is there any problem regarding defense?”
”The ability to break lies means a highly perceptive race is coming. It’s likely either Beastmen or specially trained Desert Elves. In either case, they are probably quite skilled.”
”Desert Elves?”
”We also call them Dark Elves. That’s what we refer to Azrael’s elves as.”
The young man named Guy resembled Renaud, but his responses were very polite.
He was likely the one managing the port area of Châtillon in place of Renaud, who lived in Izerland fortress.
Therefore, he must be capable of handling the bare minimum, from defense to negotiations with merchants and political maneuvering.
It was only natural that he would seem more approachable than the rough impression Renaud gave.
”Your Excellency, it’s dark, so please be careful of your step.”
Guy bowed respectfully and took Maribel’s hand, inviting her into the carriage.
Renaud followed behind.
Kian tried to follow as well, but Christy suddenly grabbed his sleeve from behind.
”What’s wrong?”
”…I smell Manon on Kian.”
”I were in the same carriage, so it’s only natural that you would pick up the scent of the perfume Her Excellency uses.”
”That may be true, but…”
Christy pouted and glared up at him.
”Don’t get too close to Manon.”
”I understand.”
”Hmph!”
The black-haired beauty raised her heels and pouted her lips.
It seemed she desired a confirmation of love.
There was no reason to refuse.
Kian confirmed that Maribel had entered the carriage, then pulled her close and captured her lips.
”Mmm… mmm…”
He quickly pulled away without going as far as to use his tongue.
Christy traced her lips with her finger, her cheeks turning red.
”Don’t cheat on me, okay? If you tell me what you want, I’ll do anything for you.”
”Thank you. I love you, Christy.”
”Yeah, me too.”
”Sorry to interrupt your moment,”
”Eek!”
Startled by the low voice suddenly thrown at her from the side, she jumped.
It was needless to say where she was startled──her chest.
The black-haired witch hurriedly jumped back, her ample bosom shaking in the aftermath.
When Kian turned his face to the side, he found Guy curiously staring back and forth at them.
”Get on the carriage already. If you want to flirt, do it back at Izerland fortress, at home.”
”Ah, I-I know! Let’s go, Kian!”
Christy hurriedly dashed towards the carriage with a flushed face.
Kian, expressionless, tried to follow her when he was called to a stop by the young Guy with “Hey, you.”
”What?”
”Nah, nothing in particular. But, hehe, I see. You’re quite a catch. No wonder you beat old man.”
”I didn’t lose or anything. I simply had to withdraw my hand as per the rules.”
”Doesn’t that count as losing, old man?”
Guy said to Renaud, who had come over after closing the carriage door where Maribel and Christy had boarded.
Renaud spat sparks from his mouth.
”That one’s my prey. One day, I’ll tear it apart and devour him. Guy, even you can’t lay a hand on him.”
”Of course. But if, by any chance, you get taken down, can I eat him then?”
”I won’t lose to this brat! Just get on the carriage already! I’m hungry!”
”Kian, aren’t you hungry too?”
”No, I ate at the soirée.”
”I see. But if you feel like eating anything, don’t hesitate to tell me. Tonight, you are a valued guest of our party. Regardless of status, we shall give you the best hospitality possible.”
