Volume 3 Chapter 110 The Sadistic Monks
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Kian”
Upon entering the eastern plains, after running several hundred meters, Serena peeked out from the depths of the woods. Kian scanned the surroundings cautiously as he slowed down, rolling Ninini under a bush and took a breath.
”You’re covered in blood.”
Serena had rushed over, her complexion altered.
Kian had wrapped a bandage around his face to hide his identity, but the bandage was soaked a deep red, indistinguishable between his own blood and that of the Wolfmen.
”…You’ve killed a lot, haven’t you?”
”Sorry, I’ll explain later, but it turns out our attack was expected. There were traps. The one I thought was Rean turned out to be a Wolfmen magician.”
”Huh?”
”Ms. Ninini was stabbed. The enemy magician seemed to plan on taking her captive, they even did something to stop the bleeding.”
”Her body temperature is low, her breathing is weak, and her face is pale.”
”It seems she’s lost too much blood.”
Kian bowed his head over the motionless cat Beastmen.
Serena was touching Ninini’s forehead and neck, checking her pulse.
”We need to evacuate quickly from here. There’s a chance pursuers will come.”
”What about Ms. Sarah? No way…”
”Sarah was supposed to help Mr. Rean escape and meet up with us first.”
After saying that, Kian suddenly fell silent.
Kian had used the sleeping curse in his ‘glasses’ to escape the crisis.
Even the Wolfmen with their strong magic resistance had blacked out.
There was no reason the curse wouldn’t have activated against Sarah, who should have been within its range.
Is Sarah safe?
Considering the rough terrain, the water, a misstep during a leap could have meant death.
’It must be she was merged with a Wraith. If not purified, they’d be shattered to bits, not even leaving scraps behind. For example, breaking a neck bone wouldn’t be fatal.’
(Then, is she okay?)
’Unless the Wolfmen grab her while she’s asleep…’
”Serena, you feeling sleepy?”
”…? No way. My heart’s racing. I was so worried about you guys, I didn’t know what to do.”
”No dizzy at all?”
Kian pressed, and Serena gave him a strange look.
”Hmm? What kind of dizziness are we talking about? I stumbled a few times because the ground was bad, but I don’t remember falling. Why are you asking?”
”Ah, sorry. No reason.”
”…? Well, whatever.”
(Did the power light? Did it have no effect? Did she get the curse but not remember?)
Christy and the others had no memory.
However, Owl, who could resist the sleep curse a little, had vague memories.
It was unknown whether Serena was affected by the curse.
Unfortunately, Serena’s basic abilities were far inferior to the Wolfmen warriors who resisted the curse.
”Hey, how many did you kill?”
”I don’t know. A lot. Me and Ms. Ninini were surrounded, attacked one after another. We had to kill them or we’d be dead. Sorry I couldn’t keep my promise.”
’Glasses’ Kian never intended to keep the promise in the first place, but he made the excuse anyway. Serena was a party member, and they would be working together, so he wanted to avoid being hated.
”I smell the Bajot brothers’ blood.”
”Those 3 with the halberds? I killed them after a tough fight. They were strong.”
”…Why are you smiling?”
”────”
Kian’s dark eyes behind his ‘glasses’ met Serena’s gaze.
He was thinking of an excuse, but Serena didn’t seem to feel that way.
Her silver ears bristled, and she recoiled in fear.
She reached for the sword at her waist, but stopped her arm just as she touched the handle.
It didn’t seem like she was reaching for her weapon in anger.
Was this fear?
(Did I really look that scary?)
’You looked at her like she was a bothersome fly.’
(Looking at her that way isn’t something a gentleman would do.)
”Serena. Honestly, when the plan failed, I was so excited about fighting tough enemies. It’s true I would have been killed if I didn’t kill them first, but I also took every chance to kill in the heat of the moment. I thought I couldn’t kill because of my promise to you, but when the situation changed, I felt happy to be able to kill.”
”R-Really…?”
”Look at this.”
Kian pulled out the head of the man called High Warlord from the Night Wraith in his pocket and held it up in front of Serena’s eyes.
”Master!? …N-No, Master…. …!”
”Sorry. I’m really sorry.”
Kian stepped closer to Serena, grabbed her shoulder as she wobbled to run away, and stick out his tongue awkwardly before shoving the face of the dead old man in front of her.
Tears welled up in Serena’s eyes, trailing down her pale cheeks.
Kian watched her silently from the side.
’Stop it, you monster.’
(I’m just confessing my sins.)
He absolutely do not get any pleasure from seeing Serena cry or playing with her like a naive virgin showing her penis.
’Fine, remove this one.’
When ‘glasses’ sounded genuinely frightening, he obeyed and took off his ‘glasses’.
Kian quickly felt his blood drain and hid the head inside the Night Wraith.
Whatever is inside the Night Wraith stops time, so the head won’t decay.
”Se-Serena, I’m sorry.”
Kian, even scared by his own actions, hurriedly pulled away from the wolf girl.
He could have been killed by Serena and wouldn’t have complained.
His actions were so reckless that he fell into self-hate.
After all, he didn’t want to believe that this was his hidden desire.
This makes him just a monster.
He had always been a lowlife, but this time, his actions were on a demonic level that couldn’t be excused. Indeed, wearing glasses should be kept to a bare minimum, or things could end horribly.
”Master…! Master… he’s… he’s dead…”
”────”
(What should I do…?)
Just as he was panicking, he felt Sarah’s scent approaching from the marshland.
She also carried the strong stench of Wolfmen’s blood, and seemed more than capable of easily overkilling Serena.
As he stood there helplessly, Sarah appeared from the west of the plains, carrying Rean. She tossed him aside, repeatedly performed short-range teleportation, brushing the blood off her body and gear, and then slid closer, carrying Rean again.
Sarah, though careless in her private life, was usually meticulous when it came to work.
”Sorry to keep you waiting. I know I’m late.”
”You managed to retrieve Rean, huh, Sarah?”
”Yeah, it seemed like you guys messed up, so I switched to solo action instead of joining up. Mr. Rean was transferred to Barghest’s lab. Ms. Vestacia’s whereabouts are still unknown.”
Sarah dropped Rean with a thud and slapped her hands.
”Treat him more carefully.”
He crouched next to Rean, who had rolled onto the grassy ground.
The young man with blonde hair was dirty with sweat and grime, but there were no visible major wounds.
However, he was quite weak.
His face was as pale as Ninini’s, and beads of sweat from pain were visible on his forehead.
”Was he captured while still wearing his armor?”
Kian, glancing at the oddly shiny Horn Cup necklace, quickly checked his pulse.
”Breathing is normal. Heart rate is normal. But… for some reason, his face is completely pale. What’s going on?”
”I don’t know. His abdominal wound seemed to have been healed by their shaman, but… he was too weak to even stand on her own. Even when I said, ‘If you don’t walk, you’re leaving Ms. Vestacia to die,’ he couldn’t move. So it’s probably not fake. Likely――.”
Sarah shot a meaningful glance at Kian.
She already knew from Kian about Rean’s previous dealings with a mysterious Azraelian merchant, and how Rean had handed over a ring woven with what appeared to be Vestacia and Lyritisse’s hair during that transaction.
Sarah’s eyes narrowed as she looked down at Rean.
”Something must’ve gone wrong, I suppose.”
”I see. By the way, this Rean is the real one, right? The one we found was a fake—an enemy magician disguised as her.”
”That’s why there was such a flashy showdown.”
