Volume 3 Chapter 120-2 Sarah’s Training!
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Okina, Mrs. Colinna.”
”Good day, Mr. Kian.”
”My apologies, did you come to pick me up?”
Sarah tried to stand up hurriedly, but Kian stopped her with his hand and sat down beside her. Kian performed a brief courtesy toward the madam.
”I apologize for the earlier commotion; it was inexcusable. Let me reintroduce myself: I am Kian of Izerland.”
”I heard from Okina. You’re a knight of Izerland, I presume? It’s rare for someone from Azrael, isn’t it?”
”I’m fortunate to have such an acquaintance.”
”Thank you for protecting Serena.”
”Protecting her is an overstatement. She and I are party members, and she’s helped me a lot. I’m the one who should be grateful.”
”Is that so? But isn’t she causing trouble without even realizing it?”
Kian shook his head lightly.
”That’s not the case at all.”
”I see. In fact, I didn’t know Serena was adventuring outside the flock. When she showed me her adventurer’s license, I was so shocked my eyes nearly popped out.”
”Huh, what do you mean?”
”──Barghest told Mrs. Colinna that he was protecting Serena at his place and even mixed in false reports about her condition.”
Sarah explained.
The madam nodded, her dog ears drooping sadly.
”When I parted with Barghest here, I told him, ‘I’m asking you to take care of Serena.’ He agreed wholeheartedly. But in reality, he abandoned her. Why would he do such a thing?”
She twisted her mouth in self-mockery after saying that.
”Why would he do such a thing? Who am I to ask that? Considering what I did to him, it wasn’t strange at all.”
”What do you mean?”
He asked, though he mostly knew the circumstances.
The madam began to speak bit by bit.
”Barghest and I were originally companions who pledged our future to each other. But while he was studying at a school in the Royal Capital, I became part of Glen. To avoid shocking him when he returned, I gradually mixed stories about Glen into the letters I sent, subtly conveying that I could no longer belong to him. But he didn’t understand at all.”
”Is this a high-level cuckold play?”
He swallowed that phrase.
If Barghest noticed the discomfort conveyed through the wording, he was probably quite psychologically shaken.
At the very least, if Kian received such a letter from Sarah, he would have been overwhelmed with anger, sorrow, and anxiety.
While striving to succeed as an adventurer, he reads letters from Sarah, gradually increasing in talk about her being in love with Jibril. And then, at some point, the letters suddenly stop coming…
Just imagining it would drive someone insane.
”Then, when Barghest returned to his flock, he must have felt terribly hurt seeing Lord Glen together with you.”
”Yes. But I also believed Barghest would find someone better than me. There must have been many adorable noble daughters dressed in beautiful clothes in the Royal Capital. And in general, it was impossible for a love to last three years apart.”
”Barghest was not as realistic as you are.”
”Yes, because he is a romanticist.”
”I quite understand how Mrs. Colinna feels.”
Sarah smiled kindly and offered words of sympathy to the madam.
But that was her reaction when she could understand nothing.
Probably, Sarah saw Colinna as a creature from a different world than herself.
”Did you reconcile with Barghest?”
”Yes. There was a bit of a quarrel, but both Barghest and I accepted each other’s circumstances, and that matter was supposed to be over… but it seems that was not the case.”
”A man whose woman has been stolen from him will never forget that grudge.”
”I see…”
”Did you know that Bloodsucking Kind are proliferating massively in Nordende and causing trouble?”
When Kian asked, the madam made a movement of her neck that could be interpreted as either denial or affirmation.
”I witnessed abnormal occurrences when I came here, but I did not know that monsters were overflowing into the wetlands and causing damage to nearby villages. It was something I could have understood if I thought about it a little, but I blindly believed that Barghest, under Glen’s orders, would somehow handle it. Um, could it be that the war is also caused by the mass outbreak of Bloodsucking Kind?”
”That is only one of the multifaceted factors, madam.”
Sarah explains.
”It’s about Oswald, the knight protecting Ramsey, being defeated. Also, since Ramsey is approaching harvest time soon, the United Hairkin Races are exerting pressure on fortifications across the land so they can raid at any moment, I suppose.”
”Oswald—the Knights of the Sun—has been defeated!”
”Did you know about that?”
”He is a formidable warrior who easily defeated Isthbaran and Arminus. I hear that fighting him during the day is extremely dangerous. Just approaching him will set you ablaze, and even if struck by a magic sword or magic spear, you won’t even get a scratch thanks to his iron Wall (defense). Moreover, he is said to destroy our defenses with a magic sword like the sun. Many Beastmen have been burned to death because of him.”
”Isthbaran and Arminus?”
”Isthbaran is a warrior of our ‘Storm Herd.’ Also called the ‘High Warlord,’ he’s an elderly man. Arminus is a hero of the black panther tribe, a fierce rival and a close friend of Isthbaran.”
”I see.”
Perhaps Arminus is also strong enough to be a ‘High Warlord’ class. If that’s the case, it’s only a matter of time before Ramsey falls.
If this Bloodsucking Kind disturbance subsides and the Black Panther Tribe invades Ramsey, Owl probably won’t be able to hold out. The Owl on the scene probably understands that, but the people in the executive government, including Maribel, probably do not know.
At least, Maribel, who is communicating in her dreams, seemed to be relaxed, thinking that Owl would keep things somewhat under control.
”If Oswald has been defeated, then our victory is near. It looks like this winter will be bountiful. …I would have been pleased if not for these circumstances…”
The madam directed her light blue eyes toward Glen and moistened them.
”If anything happens, Sarah or I will consult with you. In two days, we plan to capture Barghest and talk with him, and it would be helpful if you could be present.”
”Yes. Thank you very much for everything. I’m glad to know about the outside world. Barghest doesn’t talk much.”
Kian and Sarah stood up, bowed to the madam, and left the hall.
As they walked together out into the corridor, they were silent.
What Colinna did to Barghest was terrible, but she also understood Colinna’s circumstances. To be separated for three years and continuously think about the other person—that’s only possible with true pure love. Living in a closed flock, it must have been difficult to keep refusing Glen’s invitations.
Their love was probably one that couldn’t be fulfilled due to the circumstances around them.
Barghest and Colinna were—could have been—the possible future images of Kian and Sarah.
”Hey, Kian?”
”What?”
”Suppose, while you’re an adventurer, I marry another man and have children. Would you raise those children?”
”I don’t even know the situation first. Children are raised by you and your husband, right? Why would I be the one to raise them?”
Sarah furrowed her brows.
”No, I mean, if Mr. Glen has many children and in a way you become their guardian, and you are asked, ‘Take care of the children!’—would you accept that gladly?”
