Volume 3 Chapter 120 Sarah’s Training!

”You should report to your superior regularly and summarize what is currently known. Send a letter to Yelmar.”
”But we don’t have a way to send a letter.”
”I’ll prepare Wing Cain.”
Kian said this and whistled toward the swamp, now sinking into the evening twilight at the entrance of the ancient temple.
A high-pitched sound echoed several times against the mountain, reaching the swamp below.
After a while, three black shadows appeared in the sky, grew larger, and eventually landed at the entrance of the ancient temple where Kian and the Wolfmen warriors were gathered.
”It’s still an amazing technique every time I see it. Not only does it stop movement, but it can completely control them… Do all of Azrael’s warrior monks use this?”
”No, only I can use it.”
”By the way, that girl used insects.”
”Actually, those aren’t insects, but golems.”
The warriors responded with a silly “Whoa” to Kian’s answer.
”Can you read and write?”
At Kian’s question, the five warriors present all shook their heads.
Among them was the young leader of the unit, but he too apparently couldn’t write.
Serena had been highly educated, reading and copying magic books at a very advanced level, so she had assumed the educational standards of the ‘Storm Herd’ would be quite high. However, it seemed that was not the case. There were graduates from the Royal Capital’s Academy, like Barghest, and then there were people like them.
”It must be difficult in the military if you can’t write… How did you communicate information?”
”Ozeas got a magic tool from some territory of Azrael that displays both voice and image, and we used it for communication. It was distributed to the unit leaders.”
”Is it a hologram?”
”What’s that?”
”Never mind. ‘Storm Herd’ is advanced one. Anywaym you can transmit information in real-time with both sound and video, huh?”
If that’s the case, it seems you can respond quickly to any situation.
The ability to respond quickly directly affects the strength of the military.
Not only are individual abilities excellent, but by mastering such advanced techniques, ‘Storm Herd’ has continued to maintain its position as the strongest in the West.
”But I hear no new ones have joined since Ozeas died. Right now… maybe they’re communicating by writing on paper.”
”Huh. Well, that’s fine, I’ll write it myself. Can you read handwriting?”
”I can read it.”
”Then, finally, confirm the wording I will write.”
Kian used the floor of the ancient temple as a desk and carefully wrote the message with a brush.
The brush was handmade after Oswald used one before.
It’s steadily useful because even on unstable floors, it can write neatly.
Kian created two more similar messages and showed them to the young leader.
”If possible, I want your signature. If you tell me your name, I’ll teach you the spelling.”
”I can at least write my own name.”
After confirming the message, the young man signed ‘Sven,’ took a seal from his pocket, and stamped it. He rolled up the cloth and offered it to Kian.
Kian tied it to Wing Cain’s legs.
As an extra, he also wrapped a conspicuous red cloth around their necks and added ‘Pet’ in brush-written characters.
”You guys are still monitoring the Great Forest, right?”
”Yeah. If you send it to that lake, it should be able to meet the scouts.”
”Got it.”
There was a high chance that Wing Cain’s group could be shot down by Yelmar’s troops, but as long as the letter was delivered properly, that was sufficient. Kian activated the vampire’s eye, instructed Wing Cain and the others, and they took off into the night sky as darkness approached.
”That helps.”
”Don’t worry about it. Are you guys going to complete Ms. Natasha’s request from now on?”
When Kian asked, the young leader, Sven, nodded.
”Yeah. She say she’ll show the crystal’s footage to some high-ranking members of the Beastmen Confederation. This doll──”
The young man took out a strangely glaring and creepy doll from his pouch.
”I will set up the scene with the Silverwooloo group petrified, the monsters endlessly spawning, and the entrance of the ancient temple with its exterior and interior clearly visible. As long as the atmosphere is conveyed, it should be fine.”
”Hey, Sven. How are we going to place the dolls where the captain is petrified? Colinna’s old hag won’t like it.”
”If it’s alright with you, I’ll sneak the dolls in while Mrs. Colinna is distracted. Could you hand me two or three? I apologize in advance if they get noticed and taken down later.”
”If they get noticed, then they get noticed. Please do it.”
Kian received two dolls and put them in his backpack.
”Still, placing these dolls will socially kill ‘Storm Herd,’ you know? Are you okay with that?”
”What do you mean by ‘are you okay with that’?”
”‘Storm Herd’ is your hometown, isn’t it?”
”Hah, I don’t care what happens to those who exiled us. I almost want to laugh seeing them fall to the bottom.”
”I see.”
”I’m not actually exiled, but that shitty group should just die off already.”
The man standing next to Sven said that.
He twisted his scarred mouth and smiled.
”If they crawl on the ground in front of us and say ‘please help,’ I might just help the young females, but that’s it. Uhyahyahyahya!”
Kian silently watched Sven and the others leave through the temple entrance to place the dolls near the gate.
Like them, Kian was also an exile.
He planned to return to Vahid’s territory eventually and kill his father Umar, who were imprisoned, and Jibril. What he intended to do wasn’t much different from them.
(However, no one wants to become like that. Even for revenge, I want to keep my reason intact to the end. Instead of letting rage turn the country into a sea of blood, I will aim and kill those who mistreated my father, brother, and me.)
Kian turned on his heels and began walking back along the corridor toward the courtyard.
Sarah, with whom he had promised to train, should be talking to Mrs. Colinna in the Great Hall.
He would stop by to pick her up and place the dolls on the way.
(The situation for killing is important. Just killing alone does not constitute revenge. One must make them aware of the mistakes they have made, throw them into the depths of despair, and then kill them in a gruesome manner.)
Killing through an ambush does not complete the revenge.
That is where he wants to have a certain level of obsession.
However, he does not have a concrete plan yet.
(Well, first, I need to rise to power. The problem is how far I can rise… The post of Defense Minister, which Maribel persistently recommends, would be something to acquire, but only at the very end.)
* * *
Sarah was talking to Mrs. Colinna in front of her sleeping bag about the outside world.
Kian, who had erased his presence and transformed into Mist Form, set up a doll on the inner side of the Black Onyx Roses bush and at the corner of the room──on the opposite side of where Mrs. Colinna’s sleeping bag was──so that he could see the object in the center of the plaza clearly.
It seemed that both positions were hard to detect from the range of movement of the madam.
After everything was over, he returned to the entrance of the plaza and entered boldly.
