Volume 3 Chapter 57 Situation Explanation I
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
As morning turned into day, the summer heat slowly settled by the riverbank.
Above him──voices from wild birds in the forest echoed busily down from the cliff, while Kian was reporting the events from the memory world in detail to Natra and Rufna.
Around them were the mountaineers under Priscilla, who had been on watch with Natra all night.
They had spread out along the riverbank to protect Sarah and Priscilla, who continued to care for her.
”So, I see. You defeated Lady Sarah, but then Sir Jibril crashed the party, huh?”
”We were on high alert the whole time, but we couldn’t detect any sign of the magician or his magic. As Lady Priscilla said, Jibril must have tampered with the ‘Venomous Blade’ that was broken there.”
”Did Sarah visit Jibril before going on her mission?”
Kian asked Rufna.
The dark elf beauty thought for a moment before shaking her head.
”No, I don’t think she did right before. I didn’t know exactly what my lady was doing in her free time, so I can’t say for sure.”
”However, Sir Kian, Lord Jibril did call for my sister a few times. I think it happened since I was little. Every time, she came back with some kind of present.”
”Ah, now that you mention it. My lady was quite popular, but Sir Jibril’s gifts seemed the most extravagant… I don’t have all the details, but I feel like they were things that could easily build a ordinary house. Very different from young Shakerdoust.”
”But I remember that by the time I entered the monastery, she only met with him for business matters. By then, Almeisa seemed to be getting a lot more attention.”
”Sir Jibril was a genius, so no one said anything, but everyone whispered about how he probably loved inexperienced girls. Even Milady Natra was invited to his house. He had no principles when it came to that. Luckily, my master and Lady Sarah stopped him.”
”‘What does ‘even’ mean, what does ‘even’ mean?”
Natra pouted and placed her hands on her hips, wearing an Eastern-style outfit.
”Do you have to insult me every time we talk? Are you sick?”
”But, has Milady Natra ever been proposed to by anyone other than Sir Jibril?”
”Marriage is something parents decide. It’s wrong to even talk about proposals… besides, I’m not really leftover… probably…”
”You don’t have to sneak glances at me to lower my opinion of you. You’re my best partner, Natra.”
”…You say that to many women, don’t you?”
”After all this time together, and with our great chemistry in bed, you know I’m not lying.”
”……”
”It may sound bad, but I’m really lucky you’ve been single. You are my woman, Natra. I like to think that Azrael has guided this to happen. Don’t worry about the guys who don’t understand a woman like you. Those weaklings don’t deserve you. I know your worth and I can meet your expectations. So just keep your eyes on me.”
”Sir Kian is hopeless and has many messy parts in his personal life. I can’t say he meets my expectations.”
”Mmm…”
”B-but!”
Natra suddenly turned her face away.
Her cheeks were a bit red.
She pouted her lips and mumbled quietly.
”Sir Kian, I believe you need a woman to assist with the finer details of your care and training… If Sir Kian requires my presence for such tasks, Natra will always be here, just for you. After all, we’ve made a vow, haven’t we? I have no choice but to stay by your side.”
”Thank you. Natra is so kind.”
”…It’s nothing… You’re still as underhanded as ever, Master.”
(Her reaction is cute. She’s finally acting her age.)
Kian inwardly sported a dark grin.
Lately, he felt like he was understanding how to handle her better.
Perhaps this was thanks to their shared intimacy.
”Sorry to bother you in the middle of your rest, but is it okay?”
”Ms. Priscilla.”
Kian turned to the white-haired witch who had approached from behind.
Natra and Rufna also focused their attention on her.
”How is Sarah?”
”No problems. I’ve neatly removed the lace parts and restored her brain. Lady Sarah should soon awaken as the person you remember.”
The white-haired witch glanced back at the sleeping black-haired beauty on the makeshift bed.
Kian took Priscilla’s hand and bowed his head.
”I don’t know how to express my gratitude. Thank you, Ms. Priscilla.”
”Don’t mention it. But it was part of our agreement. You conversed with an unpleasant Dark Elf and successfully overcame the trials to help Lady Sarah. I’d say it’s a well-deserved reward.”
”Yes, Sir Kian worked hard. You seem to have been mastered ‘Pursuit of the Shadow’ quite well. Now it’s just a matter of modifying the laws to minimize damage and healing. Please continue to strive.”
”That condescending tone is something I think a guy would hate, you know… Really, you could be cute if you just acted normal.”
”You, as usual, are trying to pick a fight with me. I’ll buy it in a second, Rufna.”
Leaving the two familiars still fighting as always, Kian turned to the white-haired Witch.
”About the ‘Parasol of the Night Queen’ and the ‘Holy Sword of the Sun’ that Jibril used…”
”Ah, yes. I’m curious about those 2 divine weapons he had. The parasol seemed to properly cross into the spirit world, just like mine. I want to believe it’s just a replica with the same effect.”
”What about the holy sword?”
Kian asked quickly.
”Is Lord Oswald safe? It’s possible Jibril defeated him and took his Qualification. After all, Oswald has lost control of his body and his magic power is greatly suppressed by the contract.”
”We need to visit Lord Oswald and check if the holy sword’s sheath is safe. Even if it’s a replica like my parasol, we can’t just dismiss it. We should also check the holy sword kept by Lady Eleonora. Unlike the sheath, sheathed swords can be stolen if wrapped in thick cloth or something.”
”If Jibril has stolen the holy sword, that’s serious. It would ruin Her Excellency Maribel’s reputation.”
”Reputation aside, if the ‘Holy Sword of the Sun’──a strategic weapon──falls into their hands, we’ll have to rethink all border defenses. If Châtillon gets burned down by the ‘magic sword of the sun,’ I’ll have no choice but to work permanently under Lord Kian.”
”Lady Priscilla, this is no time for jokes.”
”I know, Natra. No one else can do this. Once Lady Sarah is stable, we’ll set the appointment and teleport there. Will Lord Kian come with me? If it’s just me, the stubborn Lord Oswald might not see me. Dad says you’re Oswald’s favorite, right?”
”The quest in Châtillon is done. Now, we just need the reward and then head back. I planned to pick up any quests I can while returning to East End, so going to Izerland fortress is perfect. I’d be happy to join you.”
”It’s settled then.”
”Natra, Rufna. Any thoughts?”
As Kian asked his 2 familiars quietly,
”──Ugh… where am I…?”
The beautiful Azraelian woman lying on the simple bed behind opened her eyes with a soft groan.
* * *
”Where is this…?”
At that faint female voice, everyone’s expressions changed quickly.
They’re waiting around the bed peeked at Sarah and shouted, “She’s regaining consciousness!”
Kian and the 3 others hurried toward the bed.
”What? Where am I? Who are you!?”
The woman spoke cautiously to them.
She looked down at herself and whispered, “A bed…? In the forest?”
”Sarah!”
Kian felt his heart pounding hard and fast.
He called her again.
”Sarah!”
Peeking at the bed, the awake woman looked at him with black eyes.
Thin, gentle eyebrows curved softly.
Unlike Natra, the outer corners of her eyes drooped a little.
Her nose was slender and high, showing a mature woman.
Her lips were thin and slightly cracked.
With no makeup, her natural beauty stood out even more.
She looked intently at Kian and whispered, “No way…”
”Kian, is that you?”
”Yes. I’m Kian. It’s been a while, Sarah.”
”…! Kian… ──────!”
Once, Sarah had called out a name, tears in her eyes, but she quickly snapped back to reality and jumped out of bed──more like tumbled out.
Kian hurriedly reached out, but Sarah brushed his hand away lightly.
”Sarah!”
”Oh dear.”
Priscilla sighed beside her.
Sarah, who had fallen from the bed, grabbed a sharp stone from the riverbank and pressed it against the neck of the mountain soldier who had been caring for her.
She looked like a cornered beast, glancing around at Priscilla and the mountain soldiers from Châtillon.
”Franz Kingdom soldiers!? And the head Witch is here too…! What is going on!?”
”Sarah! Wait!”
”Stay back! If you come closer, I will kill this man!”
”Eek!?”
Sarah seemed serious.
She poked the soldier’s throat lightly with the stone blade.
His skin broke, and blood began to seep out.
Kian’s face changed when he saw Priscilla silently pull out an umbrella.
”Stop it, Sarah! We are on your side! We came to help you!”
”You came to capture me as a prisoner, I know that!”
Sarah backed away, glancing nervously at the mountain soldiers surrounding her.
Even she seemed to realize that fighting against so many in her exhausted state was impossible.
It was clear she was trying to find a way to escape up the cliff.
Seizing an opportunity, she pulled a falchion from the soldier’s waist and aimed it at Kian, glaring at him.
”I remember losing to Oswald. Kian, I know you were called to Châtillon fortress as an important witness. …Is my father safe!? What about everyone fighting the enemy Dark Elves? If you’re here, then Rufna, who was heading for the assassination… Rufna, is…?”
