Chapter 11 Lil ③
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Ten days have passed since I came back to life. I am still living like a parasite, relying on Lil for everything. In truth, I do not do anything. My days consist of playing with Leki and finding water to drink. Luckily, I found a Traveler’s Tree¹ nearby – I did not think they were in this world too – so water has not been a problem. As for food, the monsters Lil hunts are more than enough to keep me fed.
Though I am not actually eating them with my mouth.
Most of the catches are Goblins². Other than that, she has brought back Orcs, Almiraj, and even an Ogre once. Among the things she has brought me that I have not used Predation³ on yet is a massive Raging Elk. Actually, there was a Goblin Mage among the Goblins once, and I managed to get fire magic through Predation. But when I tried to roast an Almiraj with it, I could not get the heat right and burned the meat to a crisp. Since then, I have just been using my Predation arm. I also saw that Lil was not eating because she was putting me first, so I had to tell her to catch and eat her own share.
Aside from that, I just focus on moving my body. At night, I curl up against Lil to sleep. She is warm and fluffy, and it feels good – even if I cannot do much about the smell of a wild beast.
I was starting to think it might be fine to live like this forever, never meeting humans again. I had almost completely forgotten about my Vengeance⁴. But fate is a hard seller, and it was time to pay.
* * *
Lil was the first to notice the change. Her ears moved, and she began to growl, looking toward the cave opening. Leki went into the dark of the cave, looking scared. Sensing something bad in the air, I put on my only piece of armor that was not broken – the left glove of the Living Armor – and put my sword in my belt. I stayed hidden and looked outside.
A big wolf stood there. The Barghest⁵. The same wolf that killed me. If he was here, it meant his pack was near. I could see many wolves in the shadows behind him.
”Woof.”
Lil gave a short bark as if to say, ‘Leave this to me,’ and went out. But it was no use. I went out beside her and held my sword. Lil looked at me with a face that seemed to say, ‘Why are you here?!’ I told myself I should be able to fight now, but my body would not listen. My legs were shaking. The sword in my hand made a clicking sound against my armor. I was scared of that Barghest. I had used Predation, I had grown stronger, but the memory of being killed was not something that could be wiped away easily.
”Haah… haah…”
My breath was short. Seeing me like this, Lil made a choice. She ran toward the Barghest, jumping high into the air to hit him with her claws. But –
”WOOOOOOOOOON!”
The Barghest gave a loud howl. The sound stopped Lil for a second. In that moment, the Barghest hit her with its claws.
”Gyan!”
Lil took the hit and was sent flying, hitting the ground at my feet.
”Lil! Are you okay… what?”
There was a big cut across Lil’s stomach. Blood was coming out fast, making a pool.
”Wait, no… Lil? Lil!?”
She was still breathing, but she looked like she might die. I held her in my arms. My clothes were soon red with her blood.
”Lil, do not die! Lil!”
She did not answer. Her breath was soft, getting weaker.
”Ah… no…”
How did this happen? I knew the Barghest was in these woods. I should have left this place right away. I was so happy playing house with Lil and Leki that I forgot the world was a nightmare. That was my mistake. Everything that was happening to her right now – the blood and the pain – it was all because of me.
It was my fault.
”U… aah… UAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
I screamed with all my voice. Lil was going to die because of me. I held her close.
”I am sorry… I am so sorry, Lil… It is my fault… all my fault…”
The pack was not going to wait. The small wolves moved in to surround us. They had hungry eyes. One of them jumped at me, trying to bite my neck. I blocked it with my left arm. Because I had the glove on, its teeth did not go in. I grabbed the wolf by the neck with my right hand. It could not breathe and let go. I lifted the wolf up. It moved a lot, and its claws cut my skin. I did not care. Lil had felt more pain than this.
I broke the wolf’s neck. As it went limp, I changed my arm into the Predation form and ate it. The sound of bones breaking and eating filled the air. The Barghest and the pack stopped, looking at me like they did not understand.
”Which one is next?”
I took a step. The wolves went back, looking scared.
”If you will not come, I will come to you.”
I raised my left hand and used magic.
”Judgment Bolt!⁶“
Black lightning came from my hand. It hit the wolves in front of me. They turned to ash before they could even cry out. The power was great – it did not even leave a body. I thought I could not use Predation, but I felt power come into me. It seems killing with a Skill counts as eating.
But I did not care. I only wanted to kill the Barghest and his dogs.
”G… GRRRR… WON!”
The Barghest told his pack to attack. They came from all sides. I did not move. I let them bite my arms, my legs, and my side.
”Ugh… grrr!”
I felt a lot of pain. If I was the old me, I would be dead. But now, I can take it. Lil’s pain was worse.
Vengeance started. LP⁷ difference was added to my attack damage.
That is right. I will give them the pain we felt. Wind started to blow around me and Lil. The wind turned black and loud.
”Now, wind, cut them. Take the blood, the meat, the bone, and the soul. Wind of Greed!⁸“
The black wind hit the wolves on me. They cried out in pain as they were cut, but the wind was too loud. When it stopped, the air was red with blood. I had eaten them too.
”What is the matter? Is that all?”
I looked at the pack. They tried to run, but I would not let them.
”Do not run!!”
They stopped. Royal Authority⁹ from the Pride category made them listen. They could not move. The Barghest was caught too.
Then, it was a one-sided fight. They could not run and just stood there to be killed. I killed some with my sword and some with magic. Finally, only the Barghest was left. He was very angry, but I did not care. He killed me once. He hurt Lil. I will not forgive him. I put my sword down. I did not have a skill for my hands, but my power was enough.
”GRAAAAAAAA!”
The Barghest jumped at me. I caught his leg with my left hand. His stomach was open.
”Wrath Impact!¹⁰“
I hit his stomach hard.
”GGYAAAAAAAAAN!”
He flew through the air and hit the ground. He was not dead, but he was spitting blood. I walked over and put my foot on him. He was scared now. If I let go, he might have tried to show his belly to say he was sorry. But I would not let him live.
My right arm turned black. It opened like a mouth.
I ate the Barghest while he was still alive.

Summary:
The protagonist enjoys a peaceful life in a cave with Lil and Leki until the Barghest wolf pack that previously killed him attacks. Lil is severely wounded while defending the protagonist, triggering a massive emotional breakdown and the activation of his revenge skills. The protagonist systematically annihilates the pack and brutally consumes the Barghest alive using his Predation ability.
—
Character Insight:
The protagonist undergoes a sharp shift from a passive ‘parasite’ to an active, vengeful predator. His initial cowardice and trauma-induced paralysis are overcome only when his safe domestic life with Lil is threatened, indicating that his attachment to his new companions has replaced his sense of self-preservation. The brutality of the Barghest’s execution shows that his ‘Predation’ is not just a survival mechanic, but a tool for psychological retribution.
—
Behind the Scene:
The chapter highlights the ‘Predation’ mechanic’s growth, showing that skills like ‘Judgment Bolt’ and ‘Wind of Greed’ automatically trigger the consumption effect, streamlining the protagonist’s power-up process during combat.
