Chapter 34 Himezaki Rieslett ②
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Before I knew it, I was outside. I was just sitting there, plopped right down on the dirt. Based on the feel of the ground, I could tell it was leveled earth. But still…
”Where am I…?” Rieslett muttered.
I scanned my surroundings. A bunch of kids, maybe twelve to thirteen years old and draped in black cloaks, were keeping their distance and staring at me.
Wait. Is this a movie set? I wondered. But wasn’t that world-famous wizarding franchise already over? For that matter, where are the cameras?
I tried to play it off as a joke, but one look at a certain building told me this was no movie set. It was a magnificent structure, looking like a scaled-down version of the Sagrada Familia. At first glance, it looked like a temple, but it was too wide – more like a palace. Through the windows, I could see people dressed just like the kids outside. They were peering out at me, wondering what the commotion was.
”Um…”
A blue-haired boy – I figured it was a boy because of the shorts – approached me, looking like he’d squeezed out every drop of his courage. His face was beet-red and he was acting all fidgety. It was actually kind of cute… no, wait, focus.
Blue hair. That was the thing. Looking closer, there were kids with blonde or brown hair like mine, but then there was red, blue, green, and even pink(!?). Colors that were physically impossible back on Earth.
”Uh, hello? I’ve got a lot of questions myself,” Rieslett said.
”It talked!?” the boy cried.
”She can actually understand us!” another girl shouted.
How rude. Of course I can talk. And understand… wait. I realized something. I was speaking Swedish, and these kids were speaking Swedish too. Was this my hometown? No, I’d never seen this building before. Or was this really another world where Swedish was the common tongue? Regardless, I needed to settle one question first.
”Excuse me, but where exactly is this?” Rieslett asked.
* * *
A little later, an adult male – also wearing a black cloak – showed up. He said that to figure out what to do with me, he’d have to take me to see a certain person. Apparently, she was the Director of this Academy ¹ and a very famous sorcery-shi ². I’d suspected as much, but this really was an Academy. And a “sorcery-shi”? Yeah, this was definitely another world with magic and all that. I’d pieced that much together from the chatter, but still…
By the way, I was being forced to walk barefoot. I was still in my T-shirt and shorts – my pajamas, basically.
The man led me to a set of double doors made of wood and covered in magnificent carvings. He knocked.
”Director, do you have a minute? We have an abnormal situation on our hands…” the man said.
An abnormal situation? I thought. Harsh.
”I sensed a strange ripple in the mana ³, so I understand. Please, come in,” a calm woman’s voice replied from inside. It sounded like the Director was female.
”Excuse me,” the man said as he entered and beckoned me forward.
The room – the Director’s office, presumably – was a total 180 from the school’s flashy exterior. It had a very grounded vibe. Straight ahead from the door was a desk that wasn’t exactly gaudy, but definitely looked expensive. Several documents were piled on top. And there, a woman sat in her chair.
She looked to be in her early sixties, with chestnut hair streaked with white. The corners of her eyes crinkled downward, giving off a very gentle aura. She was the textbook definition of a “kind grandma.” She had some wrinkles, but you could tell she must have been a real beauty when she was younger. She wore loose, comfortable clothing, but her back was straight as a board.

When the woman saw me, her eyes went wide with shock. But it was only for a second; she immediately smoothed her expression into a warm smile.
”Ah, just as I thought. Hello there. Welcome, my lovely little Visitor-san ⁴. I am Minette Cornaut, and I serve as the Director of the Sorcery Academy Greedia ⁵,” the woman said.
”I’m Himezaki Rieslett. Oh, Himezaki is my last name. By the way, what do you mean by ‘Visitor’? And a Sorcery Academy?” Rieslett asked.
”Yes. We use the term ‘Visitor’ for anyone who arrives in this world from another realm through some turn of events. And this is the Sorcery Academy Greedia, an institution where we teach the magical arts,” Minette-sama explained.
From what she told me, there are two types of Visitors. One is “teleportation,” like what happened to me. The other is “reincarnation,” where you’re reborn in your old form. Teleportation happens maybe once a century, while reincarnation is almost unheard of.
On top of that, this world apparently has the concept of a “Status.” At this point, it felt less like an “other world” and more like I’d been dropped into a video game.
”Since you’re here, why don’t you check your own Status?” Minette-sama suggested.
”How do I do that?” Rieslett asked.
”Just visualize a Status screen opening in your head. If that’s too hard, just say ‘Status Open’ out loud,” Minette-sama replied.
Saying it out loud would be way too embarrassing, so I tried the mental image. I imagined opening a menu in a game. Luckily, it worked.

…………Wait. Hold on a second.
”Um, I have a weird question,” Rieslett said.
”What is it?” Minette-sama asked.
”About these ability scores… what’s the average for a Level 1 person?” Rieslett asked.
”Let’s see… usually around 20 to 30. If you have 50, you’re fairly talented. Once you pass 100, you’re considered exceptional in that field. On very rare occasions, someone might exceed 200, but those people are flat-out geniuses,” Minette-sama explained.
In other words, except for Dexterity and Mind, I was below average for this world. I seriously felt like collapsing in a heap right there on the floor.
Let me explain this a bit more. Name, Race, and Gender are exactly what they sound like. “Class” is basically your job or combat role, but…
”Shut-in”?! Seriously?! I mean, yeah, I was staying at home, but come on!
I don’t think Level needs an explanation. LP stands for Life Power – if it hits 0 you don’t die, but you’re in critical condition and need first aid immediately. If you drop below 10% of your max, you die. MP is Mental Power. If that hits 0, you just get tired. You can’t use magic, though.
”Condition” is your current health or mental state. Usually, it’s “Normal” or “Good.” STR is physical strength. VIT is stamina and durability. DEX is dexterity, and AGI is your quickness and speed. MAG is magical power; apparently having a 10 is plenty, since most people start at 1 or 2. MIN is your spirit.
My DEX and MIN were probably decent because I used to hand-sew my own cosplay outfits and stay up all night gaming. Not exactly something to brag about, I guess. But everything else was bottom-of-the-barrel. I knew I wasn’t athletic, but still…
Next are the Skills. Skills have rarities, ranging from C (Common), UC (Uncommon), R (Rare), SR (Special Rare), to UN (Unique).
The “Language Comprehension” skill is why I can understand everyone. Even written text is converted into Swedish for me. Plus, anyone I talk to can understand me too. It’s like a built-in translator. If I had this back home, I could have made a living just doing that. It’s a “Unique” skill because only Visitors have it.
”Appraisal” is exactly what it sounds like. I can check items or monsters, but if the level gap is too big – specifically more than twenty levels – it won’t work.
”Item Box” is your standard infinite storage or inventory. You can’t put living things in it, but everything else is fair game. Plus, time stops inside it, which is awesome.
Then there’s “Cosplayer.” This is a weird one where my Class and stats change based on the clothes I’m wearing. The only reason my current class is “Shut-in” is because of this skill.
Finally, the Titles. “The Teleported” and “Hero” are literal. I thought they might give me some hidden buffs, but nope. Nothing. Total letdown.
Basically, what does this all mean? It means right now, I’m useless! Can I cry? I’m allowed to cry, right?!
But this is reality. Crying won’t change anything. I guess I should be glad I didn’t wake up alone in the middle of a forest. If I’d teleported into a forest with these stats, I’m 100% sure I would have died instantly. Thinking about it that way made me feel slightly better.
”So, Rieslett-san, regarding your future… do you have any requests?” Minette-sama asked.
Requests? I thought about it. This was an Academy that taught magic. Which meant…
”Um, you teach magic here, right?” Rieslett asked.
”Of course,” Minette-sama replied.
”Then please let me attend this Academy! I want to use magic!”
”I see… I don’t mind. Normally you’d need to pass an entrance exam, but since you’re a Visitor, we can waive all that,” Minette-sama said.
Score! It actually worked. My request went right through. Now I can finally use magic!
”However, you’ll be starting as a first-year. Everyone else will be younger than you. Is that okay?” Minette-sama asked.
”That’s not a problem at all!” Rieslett replied.
As long as I can learn magic, I don’t care if my classmates are kids.
And that’s how I ended up enrolling in a Sorcery Academy.

- LP dropping below 10% of maximum results in death.
- She is barefoot throughout the entire encounter
