”Well, I’m really worried about Maria-san, so should we pick up the pace?”
”Fair point… I’m sure someone as cheerful as Maria is holding her own, but the sooner we get to her, the better,” Kanade said.
”Yeah, totally! I love Maria-chi, she’s so sweet. I want to go save her right now!”
”You’re right, let’s move!”
We began to sprint through the Phase Three dungeon¹.
The first floor of this particular dungeon featured a landscape I could only describe as a vast, red-rock wilderness. f I had to compare it to a place back on Earth, it looked exactly like the Grand Canyon in the States.
Since the entrance opened into a narrow gorge, our only options were to climb the sheer cliffs or run through the valley floor. We didn’t bother fighting the terrain and just hauled it through the bottom of the canyon.
After we had been running for a while, Haruka-san’s expression shifted, as if she had picked up on something.
”Monsters up ahead…”
Haruka-san was currently using ‘Perception Enhancement’², giving her the sharpest senses in the group. If she said they were there, they were definitely there.
”Understood… Since these are our first encounters here, let’s stay sharp,” Kanade replied.
We cut our pace, creeping forward with light footsteps to avoid tipping off the monsters. Eventually, our targets came into view: Earth Golems³ made of solid rock, standing about ten feet tall.
”Earth Golems… They’re famous for being tough, but there’s no need for me to step in just yet… Haruka,” Mana said.
”Yeah. I’ll take this one,” Haruka replied.
When it came to raw melee power, Haruka-san and Minami-chan were our heavy hitters. Minami-chan excelled at high-speed shredding of soft targets, while Haruka-san was known for the kind of devastating, heavy strikes that could pulverize even the hardiest enemies. Against a Golem like this, one good swing from Haruka-san’s mace should do the trick.
Haruka-san gripped her mace, closing the distance inch by inch from the Golem’s blind spot. Once she was within a few yards, she kicked off the ground and soared into the air.
”(Mace Crushing Strike)!”
The mace swung down with a deafening crack. That single hit effortlessly shattered the Earth Golem into a pile of rubble.
”Heh, I guess that’s to be expected. We’ve already started our Phase Four⁴ trials, after all. Plus, we’re all under the effects of Kanade’s Portio⁵ (Rod-Type Pressure Point)⁶… These floor-one trash mobs in Phase Three don’t stand a chance against us,” Mana said.
”Yeah, you’re right. I was a little on edge since it’s been a while since we fought in a Phase Three zone, but at this rate, we can probably afford to move a lot faster,” Haruka replied.
With that settled, we started racing through the wasteland dungeon again. More Earth Golems cropped up along the way, but we didn’t even slow down this time—we just plowed right through them.
Haruka-san smashed one to bits, and Mana used her incredible martial arts to turn another into dust.
Minami-chan tore through several more by launching a flurry of (Sky-Ripping Slashes)⁷, and I even managed to drop one myself with a well-placed strike.
Since these were monsters that even I—the guy with the lowest combat stats in the party—could take down without a cheat, the other three were basically on a stroll.
As we kept moving, the variety of monsters started to pick up.
”Minami! Hungry Vultures⁸ coming in from above! They’re all yours!” Haruka shouted.
”Mhm, leave it to me! (Sky-Ripping Slash)! (Sky-Ripping Slash)!! (Sky-Ripping Slash)!!!”
The vulture-like scavengers dove at us with terrifying speed, but with Haruka-san’s ‘Perception Enhancement’ active, we could all see them coming a mile away.
Minami-chan was the best choice for soft, flying targets, so she swatted them out of the air with a few effortless slashes.
”Hirosawa-kun, an Earth Slime⁹! Those things are a total chore to kill normally, so I’m handing it off to you!” Haruka called out.
”Got it! I’m on it!”
If you’ve seen the Phase One dungeons, you know the biggest headache with Slimes is their defense. The Earth Slime is particularly notorious for being an absolute tank. But that kind of physical defense doesn’t mean a thing to me.
I locked onto the Earth Slime with my (Pressure Point Eye)¹⁰, searching for its Instant Death Pressure Point¹¹.
”Found it! It’s buried too deep for a strike, so I’m using the (Pressure Point Gun)¹²!”
Right in the center of the massive, thirty-foot-wide Earth Slime, I saw the glowing light of its fatal flaw. I summoned the (Pressure Point Gun) to my hand, took aim, and pulled the trigger.
The next second, the Earth Slime evaporated into a cloud of smoke.
”Haha, nice shot, Hirosawa-kun! I’ll take care of the rest of these Earth Golems!”
Haruka-san started punching the remaining Golems one by one, turning them into clouds of soot as she went.
We didn’t stop, pushing forward until we finally reached the boss floor of the first level.

Summary:
The party ventures into a Phase Three dungeon, a canyon-like wasteland reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. They are motivated by the need to rescue Maria-san, whose safety is currently unknown. The group quickly realizes that their combined strength, enhanced by Kanade’s Portio ability, allows them to easily overpower the floor’s inhabitants.
