Volume 10 Chapter 5 The Proper Way to Handle a Demon

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

When the tent flap lifted, a small figure peeked inside.

In that bleak, empty world, it was as if a single flower had bloomed.

The plain tent suddenly felt brighter—like a stray cat had decided to visit the person who once fed it.

The girl smiled, the kind of smile that could be called angelic.

But the visitor was no angel. She was Kispe, the great demon of the Crimson Spire.

She wasn’t dressed in her usual frilly, dreamlike maid outfit. Instead, she wore a white blouse trimmed with lace and a dark jumper skirt that blended into the night—simple, neat, and somehow more dangerous for it.

Her presence alone made the air tighten.

Even though she was no longer an enemy, Klock’s body still reacted as if facing a threat.

His mouth twitched. A chill crawled up his spine.

”Good evening,” she said sweetly. “The moon is lovely tonight, isn’t it?”

 ”What are you doing here?”

”Oh my. I am your slave, remember? Surely it’s not strange for me to visit my master.”

”Yeah, skip the act. Why are you really here?”

”Why, to take care of you, of course.”

By now, his brain had it branded deep: this woman was trouble.

Kispe’s lips curved in a teasing grin.

Klock began calculating how quickly he could call Suzette for help—or if Cianie was still nearby.

It made no sense. They were the victors in that battle.

So why did the winner feel nervous, and the loser so calm?

”I don’t need any work done. Just… go somewhere else.”

”Oh my! How cruel! I came here, swallowing my pride, in the dead of night, just to show my loyalty to you—and this is how you treat me?”

”That’s exactly why I said it’s too late for this nonsense.”

She stepped closer, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

But until yesterday, she’d been his enemy.

And now, a succubus visiting a lone man late at night—who wouldn’t be on edge?

”Kufufu… What’s wrong, Master? Are you afraid of me? After binding me so tightly, what could you possibly fear now?”

With that, she loosened her collar and showed the mark on her shoulder.

The slave mark—her seal of bondage.

As long as that mark existed, she couldn’t harm him.

He knew that. Of course he knew that.

”It’s just… I’m too popular, you know? I try not to be alone with women.”

”Oh, come now. No need to pretend. I’m a very understanding girl. Even if my brave Master happens to be a little nervous around a weak girl like me, I won’t mind at all.”

 ”What?”

He almost snapped the pen in his hand.

Kispe leaned closer, smiling that infuriating, smug smile that made his brain short-circuit with irritation.

”Don’t look so scary, Master,” she purred. “You know I can’t oppose any of the Heroes. So if you act like that, I can’t help teasing you.”

 ”…”

Annoyingly enough, she had a point.

With the mark binding her and her own realm lost, she truly couldn’t defy them.

She was, in every sense, a slave.

If anything, Klock should have been the one standing tall.

”I’m not scared, alright? Just saying—you could at least earn your keep. Do something useful for the team, and maybe I’ll welcome you properly.”

He said it just to dodge the tension.

”Earn war merit?” she said softly. “That will be difficult. I have no plans to fight.”

”What? Don’t worry, there’s plenty of fighting ahead. We’re going up against those monsters that followed your succubus army.”

”No,” she said calmly. “I mean I won’t fight.”

 He blinked, frowning.

Wouldn’t fight? What was she saying?

”What do you mean, you won’t fight? That’s not an option. You’re a slave, not just by name. You’re going to pull your weight.”

”I will work,” she replied. “But not in battle. Fighting is for warriors.”

”Huh? What’s that supposed to mean?”

 Klock frowned, genuinely confused.

It didn’t sound like she was joking.

”Do you even understand what being a slave means? You don’t get to make that kind of choice.”

”I understand. But conflict is not my domain.”

The tent fell silent. She walked right up to Klock and stood before him.

She hadn’t said anything strange. Nothing was wrong.

With her small frame, she stood tall and asserted her claim with an air of confidence.

”…Then what kind of work will you do?”

”Naturally, I am a princess. My job is to be cherished.”

 ”What?”

His elbow, resting on the desk, slid off.

”If you have any troubles, please consult me. I will help you think them through. If you want someone to talk to, call me. We will laugh together, cry together, and I will bring flowers to your lonely room. If you feel lonely, call me. As my Master, I will specially lend you my lap.”

Kispe smiled, maintaining her elegant posture.

”I am a princess. Please cherish me. If you wish for me to wield a blade on the battlefield like a warrior, I will refuse. I would rather break my contract of absolute obedience and die.”

Silence fell again. It took time to process such an outlandish statement.

His brow furrowed as he tried to understand what she was saying.

 ”Are you… serious?”

”Completely. Even if I am made a slave, I am still a princess. A princess’s role is to show her lovely appearance to everyone. So, I will be that. Even if I end up kneeling as a loser, I will not compromise my pride as a princess.”

 Klock was dumbfounded.

 Kispe’s smile didn’t falter.

Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding me, he thought.

Two Stellar Skills. The Unique Skills of all Six Noble Ladies were available to her.

Her Cursed Eye of Charm possessed incredible power. Her abilities were immense.

If her power became an ally, it would be a significant advantage going forward. He had honestly been counting on her strength.

And yet, she refused to fight.

”Of course, even as a princess, I am bound. I cannot disregard my Master’s intentions. I am well aware that men wish to keep me by their side at all times. It is the desire of every man in this world to have me at his beck and call. If you wish to parade me around town, to show me off, or to have me sit on your lap when you are lonely, I will do my best to accommodate you.”

 ”What are you even imagining?”

She presented a thought process far beyond the reach of ordinary people with a serious expression.

Don’t treat me like a warrior. That was the gist of it.

”Even if you say you’ll ‘do your best to accommodate,’ you still won’t fight?”

”If you absolutely must have me fight, then I ask you to order my death. With my blood, I shall create a magnificent crimson blossom in this wasteland.”

With that, she knelt on the spot.

She knelt on the floor before Klock, clasping her hands as if in prayer.

Like clergy offering themselves to Goddess Teekua.

She closed her eyes and offered her neck in prayer.

 ”Master. Please, make your judgment.”

 ”No… what are you doing?”

She opened her eyes and looked up at him.

 She smiled sweetly, adorably.

Try to kill me if you can, my lovely self, her silent plea seemed to say.

Klock was bewildered, meeting Kispe’s steady gaze.

 The tent was silent.

When Klock remained silent, she stood up.

 She brushed off her skirt.

 Bending slightly forward,

”Living as a lovely princess. That is my pride. You must think, She lost, yet she’s still like this, right? But this is who I am. I’m sorry for being a selfish girl…”

She clasped her hands behind her back, pushed out her chest, and stuck out her tongue.

She acted as coquettishly as she possibly could.

Kill me, or treat me like a princess. What kind of choice was she forcing on him?

This was a refusal to fight, backed by the willingness to offer her life.

Klock’s frown deepened, like a valley in a pool of moonlight. Surely she wouldn’t say something like this as a joke.

”Purely out of curiosity, but what if I or someone else were in mortal danger, and you were the only one who could help? Would you just stand by and watch?”

”Of course, I will support Master with the tips of my fingers.”

 ”Fingertips…? You mean you’ll help?”

Perhaps she meant she would provide support with her skills.

 He could accept that much.

”…So, what you’re saying is, you won’t go out onto the battlefield like a soldier with a sword. But you’ll handle things around me?”

”I will serve by Master’s side, so I will do my best to protect you when you are in danger…”

Why was she acting like she was in charge of Klock’s personal affairs?

”Then, for example. You don’t have to fight directly, but what about standing on the battlefield as a captain?”

 ”Absolutely not.”

 She refused outright.

Kispe made a face as if she had seen a disgusting bug.

”Why not? Look, a captain’s job is to command. You don’t have to fight yourself—”

”No. Soldiers on the battlefield are dirty and smelly. I don’t want to go near them. It’s physically repulsive.”

What a harsh thing to say.

All the soldiers in the world would weep.

”Hey, don’t say that. Soldiers are doing their best to protect the country.”

”If I can’t, I can’t. I don’t want to get close to such filthy people.”

Kispe hugged herself as if enduring a chill, her face showing genuine disgust.

Filthy, she said.

I see. Perhaps she spoke from experience of the battlefield.

Kispe had fought alongside the Demonkin in the Demon Continent. She had likely had many opportunities to witness the reality of the battlefield, behind the scenes of the soldiers’ exploits.

Well, I can hardly imagine her standing shoulder-to-shoulder with others on the battlefield. But I see. Fighting is impossible for her.

It might be difficult to deploy her on the battlefield. Regardless of her wishes, if she, with her Cursed Eye of Charm, were put on the front lines, it would be obvious that she would end up brainwashing her allies as well.

Furthermore, her strengths would be useless against monsters. The Cursed Eye of Charm only works on humans.

At least against monsters, Kispe might not be very useful.

”Were you like this when you were with the Demon Lord’s Army? I didn’t expect you to be leading troops and fighting bravely, but…”

”We Succubi did not engage in large-scale troop movements. My subordinates primarily conscripted from occupied towns and streets. We left field battles to the Monsterstroop, and during city sieges, I would use my Cursed Eye to open gates. Generally, the Majin led the troops.”

I see, he thought, clapping his hands mentally. They pushed all the war damage onto the monsters and didn’t make their own kind fight much on the battlefield.

She herself acted as support. As a dream race, they didn’t harm their own kind. As a racial leader, it was the best possible choice.

With Kispe’s methods, only the monsters would suffer.

Come to think of it, she… even at Crimson Spire, she only used her skills and left the rest to her subordinates.

It was Celes and the others who fought. She herself didn’t do anything that could be called combat.

So that’s why her skills don’t include direct attack abilities. Divination, tracking, analysis, hypnosis, illusion—they were all support-oriented.

”Understood. You can be that way.”

”Oh my. What kind words! You understand, don’t you!”

”You have the job of espionage, and Cianie will be on the battlefield, so we don’t desperately need you right now.”

”Fufu… It’s good to have a Master who understands. A Master who can be kind to girls is so wonderful…”

Her knowing smiles made him suspicious.

Her smug, enigmatic expression made it hard to tell if she was being genuine or deceptive.

Her claim of not wanting to fight might not be entirely true.

However, the set of skills she possessed seemed to prove her assertion.

 Celes. Athena. Lily.

Melfi. Alice. Princess Juju’s is unknown, but the Unique Skills of the other five are all abilities with a strong support aspect.

If Kispe had wanted to, she could have acquired abilities with higher lethality or specialized in combat.

Perhaps the pride of living as a princess, which didn’t suit Kispe’s personality, was the reason she didn’t choose those.

Did she propose the snake demon’s espionage because she didn’t want to fight? She must have planned to contribute in that way beforehand since she had no other place to be useful.

If what she said was true, Kispe was a possessor of considerable magic power. It was a shame she wouldn’t fight, but if she had no motivation, it couldn’t be helped.

She could be considered a support role with absurd magic power.

”Well, now that it’s decided, I must show my sincerity as well.”

 ”Sincerity?”

 Kispe said something strange.

She took a step back and suddenly let her shoulder straps fall.

With a soft thump, her jumper skirt fell to the floor, forming a circle.

 ”…What are you doing?”

She pulled the front ties of her inner wear, loosening them.

She grabbed the collar of her elegant, embroidered frills and pulled it down.

 Kispe began to undress abruptly.

She met Klock’s bewildered gaze and simply smiled wordlessly.

Without hesitation, she removed her inner wear, and finally, her bra fell to the floor with a soft sound.

”The inspection of your slave is not yet complete. Please, examine her.”

With an utterly confident demeanor, she revealed her body.

His eyes were drawn to the breasts that were presented to him.

Hidden by the bib of her jumper skirt was a large, prominent swell that belied her small frame.

A heavy sway. Her skin was so translucent, and her nipples were plump and taut.

Lowering his gaze, she wriggled her legs.

As if showing off, she displayed her lovely pearl-colored underwear.

It had a refined look, but the fact that she was still wearing it was likely not to show it off or out of shyness.

She had deliberately left room for it to be removed.

Looking up, he turned back to her.

”You have acquired your spoils. What will you do with them, Master…?”

With that, she smiled, her gaze full of hidden meaning.

Concealing intentions that could never be discerned by one captivated by her form.
