Volume 10 Chapter 59 The Battle of the Wall Corridor
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”The Barreith regulars and the Demon Lord’s Army have already engaged?”
Klock’s eyes widened at the report.
”I had a feeling this might happen, but damn… this is a lucky break.”
The intel had come from Ada. Her scouts had confirmed the contact, though the soup-thick fog made a headcount nearly impossible. From what they could tell, the numbers looked roughly even. She was in a fine mood; to her, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
”But wait,” Alard interrupted. “Aren’t the Barreith forces technically our allies now?”
He had a point. The Barreith army was scheduled to participate as part of the unified Human front. If they were allies, then walking away while they were being slaughtered was a problem.
”Only on paper,” Raki countered. “On a battlefield, a troop you can’t trust is just an enemy in a different uniform. We’re better off if they disappear.”
Klock agreed a hundred percent. Barreith’s presence had been a drag on the Brigante-tai¹, slowing their pace and forcing them into these miserable mountains. Still, the fact that they were currently acting as a meat-shield against the main enemy force was a stroke of luck.
”I see,” Alard muttered.
”Something on your mind?” Ada asked, noticing Klock stroking his chin in thought.
”Just wondering why the hell a fight broke out so fast. No commander worth their salt chooses a head-on meat grinder in this visibility.” Klock gestured to the white void pressing in on them. “The Demon Lord’s Army must have sensed them first and lunged. Barreith never saw it coming.”
”So, what’s the move?”
”We’re going to ‘help’ them,” Klock said, a wry smirk playing on his lips. “Or more accurately, we’re going to annihilate the Demon Lord’s Army from the rear. Ada, take three thousand men and hit them from the east. I’ll take the three hundred veterans of the Brigante-tai and circle around to the Barreith rear. When we hit them, you spring the trap.”
”You’re taking three hundred men to the front of a demon army?” Ada blinked in surprise, her eyes scanning Klock’s ragged group. “Are you insane? Your men look like a pack of thugs.”
”We’re the elite,” Klock replied. “And I’ve got a secret weapon. Move out! We strike before the Barreith line collapses.”
Klock hurriedly summoned the team leaders. Soldiers were roused in the middle of the night, yawning and cursing as they struck their tents. The campsite was cleared in minutes, a flurry of activity in the dark mountain air.
”Sir Klock,” Suzette said, stepping up to the carriage. “What about the Dragon Flame?”
Klock raised an eyebrow. “We’re low on magic stones and manpower. We’re doing this the old-fashioned way. Keep Rachel and Kaitney close.”
As the sun began to crest the peaks, the Brigante-tai split from Ada’s unit. They navigated the treacherous slopes, descending toward the eastern edge of the corridor.
”Sir Klock! The Barreith regulars are breaking!” the scout reported, slinking back through the brush.
”Expected,” Klock sighed. “They’re green and they’re terrified. Let’s show them how a real war is fought. Primlena, get to the high ground. Suzette, you’re on her. Don’t let anything get close to her while she’s channeling.”
”Understood, Sir,” Suzette replied, her voice tightening as she gripped her blade.
There was no sense in letting her talent go to waste, so he decided to let Primlena cut loose. On the other hand, he doubted her power would do them much good in Orrid. He needed her to make a killing here – literally – so he could offer her achievements as a “gift” to Cianie later.
As Primlena turned on her heel, the maid stared him down.
”Don’t worry,” Klock said, putting a positive spin on her intense gaze. “We’ve got Meina and Flavia on this side too.”
Suzette let out a soft sigh, whispered a prayer for their luck in battle, and turned away.
Today was a total mobilization. Klock’s safety was all but guaranteed. Of course, “total” didn’t include Kispe. She’d already retreated into the Crimson Spire, leaving them with a parting shot: “Do your best with the filthy, stinky work.” He knew the second things went south, she’d be inside his head, mocking him.
”Klock, what’s the move after this~~?” Alice asked.
Her rabbit ears snapped to attention. Unlike her high-maintenance master, she had chosen to stay by Klock’s side, hefting a massive axe. For a succubus, she was a cute thing.
”We stay low and wait,” Klock replied. “If the Barreith military comes fleeing this way, let them through. We hit the Demon Lord’s Army the moment they show their faces.”
The Brigante² unit lay low in the brush at the base of the mountain. After a few minutes, the thunder of galloping horses faded, followed by the heavy rhythmic trudge of military boots.
”Barreith military passage confirmed,” Flavia reported from behind.
”Ugh, I’m so booooored~~. I just want to go roll around in bed~~.” Alice groaned.
After crouching for so long, she was finally cracking. Just because Alice could fight didn’t mean she was built for the grind. As a succubus, she’d played life on easy mode. Just lying in the grass was clearly driving her up the wall.
”Deal with it,” Klock muttered. “Just give me one good day.”
”Mī, I think I’m starting to get a little sleepy-wepy…” Meina said.
”Now?! Here?!”
Even the golden cat yawned. The bunny girl and the cat girl started snuggling up against him. For better or worse, there wasn’t a hint of battlefield tension between them. Klock glanced back and caught the eyes of Rachel and Kaitney, who were crouched with shortswords ready. Rachel glared at him, seeing him sandwiched between the two girls. Klock quickly looked away.
Meina and Alice’s ears suddenly twitched.
”Master nya,” Meina whispered.
The call from the forest princess followed from behind.
”–They’re here.”
A distant clamor swelled – the roar of a massive crowd of humans. Mixed in was the sharp, metallic ring of clashing steel.
Alice gripped the axe she’d been hauling on her back. Meina shifted her weight, tensing her body like a predator seconds before the pounce.
Crap, I’m actually getting nervous. I mean, my heart’s been thumping for a bit now, but still.
A war against humans. As the sounds of combat drew closer, Klock’s hands and feet started to tremble.
Don’t wimp out now. It’s not like you haven’t killed before.
He reached out to Meina. “Nya?” the golden cat chirped as he started petting her fur vigorously. When life gets hard, pet a cat. When it’s unbearable, get your fix of cat-huffing. The golden cat rolled around happily. As he pet her for all he was worth, the rabbit-demon pouted and wedged herself in from the other side.
”Captain ze!! The enemy’s right on top of us!!”
”Gah – ! Quiet! Don’t move from the brush yet. Stay calm and wait for them.”
He tried to soothe the frantic soldier. The man’s face was a mask of sheer panic. This wasn’t the Brigante unit’s first war, but that didn’t change the fact that they were green. The tension in the air was thick.
Klock felt a searing urgency in his chest. His nerves were frayed; he felt like he had to move now. It was an irrational hallucination – a feeling that if he didn’t stand up immediately, something would be lost forever.
”Captain ze!! Give the order!!”
”Cool it! If we go now, we’ll just get tangled up with the Barreith military. In this fog, we’d be killing our own men. We’re aiming for the flank of the Demon Lord’s Army. Let them get as close as possible.”
The words he used to steady his men were really for himself. His breathing was becoming ragged. He wondered why a guy like him, with no special power, was standing here leading a charge.
It’s fine. It’s a winning hand. Keep it together. I won’t fail. Don’t think about whether they’re human. Just for today… look the other way and run.
The battlefield had shifted east. Through the gaps in the brush, he could finally see shapes moving through the mist. And then, the moment they began to pass –
”RISE UPAAAAAHHHHH!!”
Klock’s order exploded. The Brigante unit let out a blood-curdling war cry as they burst from the thicket.
”Let’s go, boys! Rip ’em a new oneaaaaaahhhhhhh!!”
”OOOOOOHHHHH!!”
Soldiers poured from the foothills, screaming as they charged the Demon Lord’s Army.
”An ambush–?!”
Through the fog, the Brigante unit tore into the enemy’s rear and flank. Predictably, the Demon Lord’s Army was far too slow to react.
Yes. This is it. We’ve got this. We’re definitely going to win zo.
The enemy was already engaged with the Barreith military. Getting hit from the side while distracted in the front shattered their formation instantly.
”Hah!”
Meina’s lightning Cat Kick connected. With a thunderous crack, a demonkin soldier was sent flying so far he vanished into the fog. The soldiers nearby froze in shock, only to be sent hurtling into the sky a second later.
”Hyup!”
With a voice that was far too cute for the carnage she was causing, Alice cleaved through the enemy with her wicked axe. Helmets buckled like paper; her targets were finished in a single blow. Since she was a spiritual entity, she fought with suicidal abandon, her raw power grinding the enemy lines to dust.
”Ugh!!”
”Agh!!”
The demonkin soldiers fell one after another. Those who collapsed clutching their throats were the victims of leaping slashes.
People died simply by Klock readying his Cianie Knife³ and glancing their way. He could slash the very space he targeted, killing with clinical precision. Whenever he saw a Brigante soldier struggling, he sent a slash their way to clear the path.
The Brigante unit was breaking through with incredible momentum. The enemy tried to rally, but they were falling so fast they couldn’t even form a wall against the charge. Within minutes, the Brigante had forced the Demon Lord’s Army into a full retreat.
”Haah… haah…”
The surprise attack was a textbook success. Beyond that, the sheer lethality of the Cianie Knife was the driving force behind their breakthrough. Meina was sticking to hand-to-hand combat to avoid hitting her allies with her spells. Flavia was focusing entirely on guarding, which left Klock to dismantle the enemy’s defenses. The Brigante soldiers ahead acted as his shield, while his own attacks bypassed them to strike every vital point. It was almost too easy.
”Haah… haah…”
The Demon Lord’s Army was in a panic. The noise from their rear was deafening now – the Ada unit must have struck. They were caught in a pincer. But because their lines were so stretched out, many of them hadn’t even realized they were surrounded yet.
If we’ve pushed them this far, it’s over for them. I’m gonna hit them until they never want to see a battlefield again. We break them here.
Just as the thought crossed his mind, a sound like crashing surf echoed from the mountains.
”FALL BACK!! THE TSUNAMI IS COMING!!”
That was the last order Klock gave in that battle. At that moment, the fight for the Great Wall Corridor was already decided. It was an overwhelming victory. That was the final verdict once the dust settled.
Klock and his team had won the information war before the first sword was drawn. They hadn’t known the enemy’s exact location, but the fake “leak” they’d planted let them predict the enemy’s moves. They had the high ground and the element of surprise. And the Demon Lord’s Army had already been softened up by the Barreith military.
They hit the flank exactly as planned. Emerging from the fog like ghosts, even a small force like the Brigante was enough to shatter their morale. The Demon Lord’s Army, who thought they were the ones doing the ambushing, never saw it coming. Then, the mountain unleashed the wave. The massive Land Tsunami⁴ tore right through the center of the enemy ranks. Between the Ada unit and the Brigante unit’s relentless pressure, the Demon Lord’s Army collapsed without putting up a fight.
The fog had turned the battlefield into a chaotic nightmare. But even in the mist, the soldiers knew when they were beaten. They used the fog to scatter and run for their lives. Before long, the Demon Lord’s Army had simply vanished.
Surrounded by the fallen, Klock looked around. When he finally realized there wasn’t a single living enemy left in sight, he finally let out a victory cry. The battle hadn’t even taken an hour.

Summary:
Klock learns of an unexpected clash between Barreith forces and the Demon Lord’s Army amid Brest Mountains fog, seizing the chance to use the crumbling Barreith line as cover for a pincer attack with Ada as Brigante-tai sets up a high-stakes ambush. Leading the fog-drenched assault at Great Wall Corridor, Klock overcomes intense anxiety with a fake mole decoy and Cianie Knife precision for a swift breakthrough, only for a massive land tsunami to sweep the battlefield and seal an overwhelming victory.
—
Trivia:
- The fog visibility is down to about five meters, which is why the ambush was so effective.
- Barreith forces are moving in a marching (snake) formation, not a battle formation, making them highly vulnerable.
- Klock is intentionally keeping his ‘Dragon Flame’ secret weapon in reserve due to a lack of magic stones.
- Kispe is present but being treated as a non-combatant unless she feels ‘whimsical’.
- The Brigante-tai is viewed by outsiders (like Ada) as a group of thugs rather than a disciplined military unit.
- Klock’s safety is managed by multiple girls (Meina, Flavia, Rachel, Kaitney), leading to romantic tension and jealousy from Rachel.
- Alice is a spiritual entity, making her effectively immortal in battle, which allows her to fight with suicidal abandon.
- The victory was largely due to an ‘information war’ involving a fake internal betrayer (mole) that Klock planted earlier.
- The ‘Land Tsunami’ was the final decisive factor that broke the enemy formation, not just the physical combat.
- Kispe is physically absent, having retreated into a location called the Crimson Spire, yet she remains mentally present for Klock

Character Insight:
Klock’s motive is pure pragmatic survival and efficiency; he sees the ‘allied’ Barreith army as expendable tools to weaken the Demon Lord’s forces. Suzette shows a mix of professional loyalty and personal sass, indicating a complex dynamic with Klock.
Klock shows significant internal conflict, struggling with the weight of leadership and his lack of ‘special powers’ while simultaneously being the most efficient killer on the field with the Cianie Knife. His reliance on ‘cat-huffing’ Meina highlights his need for grounding amidst the trauma of war.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The author uses the ‘fog of war’ both literally and figuratively to force a confrontation that Klock originally hoped to avoid by sneaking past.
The author uses the contrast between the girls’ casual, bored behavior and the bloody reality of the ambush to highlight the ‘easy mode’ nature of spiritual or high-tier entities in this world.
