Volume 1 Chapter 17-2 Each Of Their Intentions

I might get scolded for being too presumptuous, so I won’t say it out loud. But──
The central figure in question: the kidnapped Saint Cynthia.
──It’s possible she was taken on purpose, though it’s not completely certain.
The two confirmed they had all the information they needed and prepared to leave. Their trail ended at the Kingdom of Stras, so the investigation base would have to move there. Ideally, they wanted to quickly reunite with Tiet and the others who split off at Crotopone, but there was no word from Hermine. She wonder how they’re doing now.

”Hey, isn’t that Senior Tiet-ssu? Yo!”
”Clara. You still look as energetic as ever.”
At the knight barracks in Rocetta, the royal capital of the Kingdom of Crotopone, the male and female knights were housed separately for various reasons. In the female knights’ quarters, the holy knight from the hero party, who hadn’t visited in a while, met up with his juniors.
She hadn’t come specifically to see her, but she was genuinely glad to find her well.
”Is the captain here?”
”No, everyone else is out. Are you waiting for them?”
”…I suppose so.”
Tiet sat down in the barracks. She hadn’t been there long. After earning merits in Stras and joining the Crotopone knights, she was quickly promoted to holy knight and assigned to the hero party. The only knights she really got along with were juniors Clara, Licia, and Floriána. There weren’t any special memories between them, and today wasn’t a day for chatting, but she had an unavoidable matter to attend.
”Clara, how have you been lately?”
”Me? Same as always. I’m not getting any stronger, mostly stuck on barracks duty. Let the men handle the fighting—I’d rather watch from the sidelines.”
Still the same jokester. Tiet sighed at her lack of progress.
”Clara, aren’t you frustrated being left behind by the men? If you don’t train seriously, you’ll regret it someday. And what if a man tries to attack you?”
”Haha, don’t worry! Men are basically all about their stomachs and their d*cks. Once you have those covered, they’ll do whatever you want!”
”…I see.”
She thought she might get into serious trouble someday, but decided not to say anything. Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way.
To get hurt… huh.
Tiet remembered her own miserable situation from a few days ago. That was rough—even she thought so. She had overestimated her strength, assumed escape was impossible, and got too confident. She attacked a prisoner for that, got overwhelmed with pleasure, and fainted—and in that moment, the prisoner escaped. How could…
”Is it about time yet? No? Sorry for keeping you waiting.”
”Clara, I’m going now.”
”What? You’re leaving? Sorry! I’ll tell the Commander.”
”Just give this to them.”
Tiet handed Clara a shield bearing a distinctive dragon design. Clara looked at her, confused and unsure what was going on.
”I’m… quitting as a holy knight and leaving the hero party today. Tell them I’m grateful for his help.”
”……What?”
Tiet said no more and quickly left the barracks. Soon after, she climbed to the rooftop to get away from the commotion—it was too much trouble. She had already made up her mind. No one was going to stop her.
Well…
She thought about the other day again. Somehow, the man escaped. He got away but didn’t hurt Tiet. He could have easily killed the unconscious woman by strangling her, but he did nothing.
”Well, let’s go after him! Let’s go!”
She shouted to the sky and snapped her neck. Bending low, she soared eastward with a mighty burst.
”Hmph. Klock. You left without knowing my schedule. Sorry, but I’m good at finding people.”
Tiet smirked as she flew straight toward the fleeing bandit.
Tiet’s unique skill, which her grandfather named “Premonitions” because of how well she avoided danger as a kid, was real. Its power was knowing which direction she wanted to go. Now, with a clear goal in mind, Tiet’s brain knew exactly which way to head.
Many unique skills were kept secret because of their nature. As usual, Tiet hadn’t told anyone. If Anna and the others searching for the saint knew about her skill, they’d come flying back.
Tiet thought: I don’t think he’s the villain Anna said he is. I need to see him again to be sure.

”That’s a lie, Tiet…”
A few days after Tiet resigned.
In an inn room in Crotopone used as the Hero Party’s hub, Hermine, a magic user from the party, trembled in shock after hearing the news.
”What do you mean, leaving the party? Especially now… and without telling anyone!”
She sat down, holding a letter from the kingdom.
To summarize, since the reason for the holy knight’s resignation was unknown, it could not be accepted. They needed at least to hear her side. That was the natural reaction.
Why? How? What happened? Those questions flickered in her mind briefly, but she understood why Tiet wanted to quit. Completely. Yet she had been too confident that Tiet would recover, since she hadn’t shown much distress.
A few days ago, Hermine found a white-foamed Tiet in the detention house. It was right after the thief escaped. She didn’t know why it happened, but she knew Tiet had endured something unbearable.
Though in a dreamlike state at first, the girl soon returned to her usual serious self. Seeing her, determined and resolute, reassured Hermine.
”…Anna, how am I supposed to explain this…”
It would be one thing if she quietly gave up her national position. If something happened, Hermine and the others could protect her. But if she quit the hero party too, everything changed.
There was almost no one else who could stand shoulder to shoulder with Anna. With just three people left, the balance was unstable and the party was practically in danger.
Above all, Tiet was the youngest, a junior to everyone. To Hermine, she was like a little sister, and it broke her heart to see her suffer silently and leave.
”Damn you… Klock Livorno… I’ll never forgive you…”
The third princess of the Dusselhelm Empire, great magician Hermine, suspended her contact with the hero party and left the royal capital to rescue her friend and seek revenge.
