Volume 6 Chapter 41 The Rising Sun

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”Mmnh—ugh!”

Her cries of torment rang out.

 ”Ahh—nnnh!”

Each wet, pecking sound pulled another muffled moan from her lips. The girl clamped a trembling hand over her mouth while her slim legs kicked and scuffed the sand beneath her.

 ”Ah—no…!”

When she gasped out the faintest warning, her small body folded in on itself, trembling with sharp spasms.

”Hah—hah—stop already… don’t kiss me anymore…” she begged, voice breaking.

The girl, teased beyond her limits, finally raised the white flag. Her young face twisted in an expression her peers would never wear, and she stroked the place between her thighs as if to soothe it.

”F-fine! I’ll let you lick me again some other time—your loyalty is clear enough!” she blurted.

A final kiss landed, sharp and wet, and her body arched violently. She cried out with no shame left to hide and collapsed back against the rock behind her.

* * *

”Insolence. Your tongue is far too insolent.”

Soon after, the girl sprang to her feet with a sudden bounce, brushing her white hair streaked with black. Planting both fists on her hips, she scowled.

”You told me to do it,” Klock said flatly.

”I never told you to seduce me with your tongue. I never gave you leave to toy with me. Look what you’ve done—my breasts have hardened!”

Even with her cheeks still flushed, the Wolf Princess leaned close in accusation. Just as she claimed, the subtle swell beneath her chest betrayed its sharp peaks—her body unable to ignore what had been done to it.

”There are limits to everything,” she snapped. “I only meant to tease you a little, but you had to be so… passionate. Don’t tell me you were aiming to become my lover?”

”Not in the slightest,” he muttered. “I’m just thirsty. Give me some water.”

Still red-faced, she huffed, but waved her hand in permission. Whether from the insult of being toyed with or from the confusion of her own stirred body, she seemed too tangled to argue further.

Klock scooped water from the pond and drank. When he turned back, the Wolf Princess’s eyes were fixed on a thin rivulet running down the inverted triangle of his thigh. She glared, though her expression was clouded with something else.

”Because of you my body burns. My belly aches. Do you realize what it means to make a princess feel this way? Whatever comes next, you have no right to complain.”

”Ha—wait, wait! You never told me how far was too far. Even for a princess, that’s tyrannical!”

He gulped down the rest of the water and braced himself as she approached again. But when she stopped just before him, hands on her hips, she looked more like a sulking child than a predator.

”Don’t want it? Then flatter me. Say it. ‘Please, Lady Wolf Princess.’”

Klock grimaced. “Can’t I just stick to ‘princess’?”

”Princess is not my name. Call me that again, and my claws will dig into your flesh.”

Her voice dropped, sharp and cold. After a beat, he sighed. “Fine… Lady Wolf Princess. Happy now?”

She curved her lips into a small, satisfied smile.

”Good. I permit it. Now—I too am thirsty. Scoop water. Feed it to me.”

She wiggled her finger at him, like a child demanding to be spoon-fed by her parent.

Annoyance surged inside him. Is she mocking me? He swallowed his urge to strike her down and obediently cupped water in his palms.

 ”Like this?” he asked.

She leaned forward and pressed her lips to his hands. She sucked noisily, draining the small pool of water, then pressed her mouth to his palm again, latching on with mischievous insistence. A sharp nip made him jerk back, startled.

The Wolf Princess’s grin was wicked, delighted by her prank.

”Ha! What are you so shocked for—hm? Don’t tell me… you’re hard?”

Her eyes dropped, and there it was—his half-erection, impossible to miss at such close range. She recoiled, springing back.

”Hey! That’s forbidden. I’m royalty!” she barked.

”I didn’t say anything,” Klock shot back.

Her eyes stayed locked on him, wary now. Before, she hadn’t seemed to care, but seeing it swell made her retreat. Her throat worked as she swallowed hard, and she quickly covered her own lap with her hand.

”What just happened—that was only a reward for your service. Don’t misunderstand.”

”As if I would. It’s just a bodily reaction. Ignore it.”

She continued to eye him with suspicion, but his voice carried no hunger. He truly had no intention of touching her. She was a princess. That was a path leading only to disaster, and he had no death wish.

Nobles and royals—too dangerous to risk. One step, and you’d be chased forever. He’d always chosen carefully, even in his old life as a thief. Now he’d abandoned that path, and entangling himself with a princess was nothing but poison. Worse still, there was Cianie—the strongest woman alive, and his lover. To cross her would be madness.

Sleeping with a prostitute could be written off as release. A village girl could be dismissed as a passing mistake. But a princess? That could never be excused.

”The rut of a male… isn’t it unbearable? You’re not plotting to take me off guard, are you?” she asked, tone half-serious, half-testing.

”Not a chance. Leave it alone, it’ll settle down.”

She tilted her head, lips curving. “Then if you cannot bear it, why not assault that other woman? Yes… that would be best.”

Her grin turned feral, teeth flashing.

”Take her. Drive your spear into her, shatter her maidenhood as she cries and wails. Her tears would delight me,” she said.

But even as the words spilled out, her face shifted, laughter dying into sober stillness.

 ”…No, forget it. Never mind.”

”…What do you mean? If we attacked her, she’d fight back to the death and—” he asked.

”I said forget it. Don’t. Don’t even think about it. If you do, I’ll kill you,” she snapped.

Her sudden reversal hung in the air. Klock frowned, but she turned away sharply with a pout.

 What is with her?

Does she live entirely on whims?

Her mood had soured, her temper twisting without reason. A moment ago she had worn a wicked smile, and now she scowled as though struck by insult. Even noble children rarely switched emotions this quickly.

 ”I’m back,” she said.

The tense silence was broken by a third voice. Without sound of footstep, the Fox Princess had returned, exuding weary annoyance.

”You were late. I thought you’d died in a ditch somewhere,” said the first.

”Save the jokes. We need to leave now. The mole-soldiers are all gone—summoned upstairs for something.”

A brief silence followed as meaning sank in. Summoned… which meant the guards had abandoned their posts, leaving the Guard Room empty.

Summons? What could make every warden leave their station? Some dire emergency?

The development was strange, but if it was a chance, it was too good to waste.

Escape required passing through the Guard Room. A fight was unavoidable, and once begun, they’d be forced into a nonstop dash until freedom. Now the risk had been lifted, and with it came opportunity: to close the distance, to seize supplies.

The conclusion was swift. With no armor, no proper clothes, a woman in tow—no preparation—they slipped out at once. Together, the three of them stormed the first Guard Room.

* * *

A wet crunch followed by a strangled cry.

The whitewashed wall cracked like a spider’s web, then collapsed in a spray of plaster. A pair of clawed bird-legs flailed helplessly in the air.

 ”Answer briefly. Where is Klock?”

Crushing feathers under her heel, the gray woman fixed her icy blue gaze on the bird-woman. One hand gripped the captive’s throat, squeezing until the sound of cartilage creaked.

”Lady Cianie, please! She’ll die!” another woman cried, her dark blue-black hair falling forward as she rushed between them. Her hand rested gently on Cianie’s shoulder, begging restraint.

 ”C-Cattleya…” gasped the victim.

 ”No! Don’t move!” another shouted.

On the floor nearby lay another feathered woman, blood trickling from her lips as she stared up at the gray woman. A golden-furred girl sat perched on her back, tail twitching, keeping her pinned.

”I’ll ask once more,” Cianie said, voice like a blade. “Answer while I still have control. Where did you take my husband?”

Her grip tightened with a brutal groan of tendons. The woman’s face drained of color, her mouth opening and closing without sound. A faint whistling rasp forced through her crushed windpipe. Then liquid pattered from between her legs.

”It was by order of the state!! I’ll tell everything—just don’t kill my sister!!”

The prone birdkin, Charlotte, forced the words out through pain. At last, Cianie’s eyes widened and she released her grip.

* * *

”What do you mean, by order of the state? Was it on the Emperor of the Hundred Beasts’ command?”

Minutes later, Cattleya sat slumped in a chair, wings limp and discarded like broken fans. Her eyes were unfocused, her breath shallow—trauma painted across her face. Had Cianie pressed just a little harder, her neck would have snapped.

Charlotte spoke in her stead, trembling on the sofa, claws clicking anxiously against the floor.

”I don’t know if it came from the Empress herself. But we were following the Nyan Law Corps’ orders. We never meant to harm the hero—”

”I don’t need your excuses. Only answers,” Cianie cut in.

”Mina. That outfit—you wear the Corps’ uniform, don’t you? Are you one of them?”

”Meow?! No, no, no! I’m an outsider, I quit!” Mina yelped, hopping with panic, golden ears flat. “I haven’t seen the leaders in ages—I don’t know anything!”

 Cianie’s gaze remained hard.

”Quit? Do you expect me to believe you? Mina, if you betray us—”

”I’m telling the truth! I was… I was bullied, okay? That’s why… why Mr. Klock helped me,” Mina stammered, curling her tail in shame.

Her fear softened even Cianie’s iron will. The hero looked away, her apology muttered through clenched teeth.

After all, Mina’s nose had led them here. If she had been an enemy, she would have fled long ago. But desperation sharpened suspicion, even against allies.

Suzette, calm and precise, stepped forward. “The Nyan Law Corps are the Beast Country’s dark arm—fighters and spies. Do you know their true purpose?”

”I don’t… I only know they wanted him unharmed. They planned to use Hypnotic Induction with Foot-Dragging Incense to lure him out and take him. Th-they said—ahh!”

Cianie’s killing aura flared, pressing like a storm. Even Suzette flinched, and Mina’s tail shot rigid, fur bristling. The weight of it was suffocating, heavier than mere warrior’s rage.

”Please… we couldn’t disobey! The Emperor of the Hundred Beasts brooks no defiance. The Empress has already crushed entire races. The Foxkin were destroyed not long ago—”

”I don’t care. Decide right now. Will you serve the Empress, or will you serve me? I alone can wipe out those creatures. You Beastfolk are wise enough to know which choice is correct, aren’t you?” asked Cianie, voice edged like a blade.

”I—I’ll follow the hero!! For life! I swear I’ll never betray you!” cried Charlotte.

Shaking as though seized by spasms, Charlotte declared she would abandon the Beast Country and pledge herself to the Hero.

Cattleya, the lord, sat slumped, powerless. When Cianie’s eyes cut toward her, she jolted like a startled bird and forced herself to speak.

”…I leave everything to Charlotte. Her answer is my will.”

Swift submission. There had never been a choice. It was life or death, and anyone who wished to live could only abandon the nest.

”Suzette, Mina. I’ll go to Slomvanilla. Guard things here in my absence,” said Cianie.

”Wait, that’s too rash! If the Empress orchestrated this abduction, charging in would be reckless!” cried Suzette, seizing her arm before she could rise and teleport.

”If this is open hostility toward Hero Anna, the Empress will use Mr. Klock as a hostage. Even you, Lady Cianie, cannot simply solve that. Not even you can protect someone who is not before your eyes, can you?” Suzette asked steadily.

 ”That…”

”You must go to Slomvanilla, yes. But go as an investigator. If the Empress knew nothing, you might even win her cooperation.”

”And if she did know?” asked Cianie.

”…Then we must hear her demands. She would not do such a thing without reason. Until Mr. Klock’s safety is certain, we cannot act by force.”

Suzette’s words resounded in the chamber. For an instant, time seemed to halt; silence descended, heavy as stone. Cianie sank back into her seat, strength drained. After a pause, she murmured,

”Ah, Klock… If only I hadn’t looked away… I should never have waited, never timed things so carefully. I should have forced my realm into him, so I could watch him always…”

 ”…Lady Cianie?” Suzette asked softly.

Cianie covered her face with both hands and bowed her head. Like a wife told of her husband’s accident. Like kin struck by sudden grief. So unlike her usual impassive self, she trembled beneath the weight of her own suppressed fury.

 ”…Lady Cianie…”

”…Forgive me. It’s nothing. At dawn, I’ll go to Slomvanilla.”

”Yes, understood. We’ll do everything we can here in the meantime,” Suzette said.

Cianie, who had slumped in despair, raised her head with renewed resolve to save Klock. Her face was still as doll-like as ever, but her eyes blazed with unyielding fire.

Thus began the war with the Beast Country.
