Chapter 8 Physical Change

3rd POV
Kato Ayano had been in a bad mood for days.
Even though it wasn’t that time of the month, she found herself easily irritated, snapping at anyone who came too close. Maybe it was because of that argument with her parents about five days ago. Or because she’d caught a cold after that and had been stuck at home ever since.
Ayano didn’t know the reason herself. All she knew was that something was bothering her, and she couldn’t shake it off.
Her mother, however, had been particularly insistent today. She’d told Ayano she had to go and thank Shuu properly for helping out the other day. Even packed a little gift for him. Ayano thought it was unnecessary after all these years, but realizing it would only lead to another argument, she relented and decided to go.
”What’s up, Ayano? Running away from home again?”
Shuu’s teasing voice greeted her when he peeked through the door.
Ayano sighed. The wind rattled the flower pots on his porch as if they were laughing at her too. It wasn’t even winter yet, but the chill in the air made her regret coming outside. She tugged her heavy coat tighter around her, suppressing the urge to turn back.
Still, she rang the doorbell. And when Shuu opened the door, something strange coursed through her—her body shivered, though she wasn’t cold anymore.
”I just wanted to thank you… for the other day,” she muttered, holding up the small package her mother had prepared.
Their parents had always been close. Shuu was an honor student, well-mannered and responsible—almost too serious for Ayano’s taste. When they were kids, it was easy being friends. But growing up, Ayano had drifted away from people like him, choosing to date rougher, wilder guys like Sakaki instead.
Still… the last time she saw Shuu, she noticed something different.
”Heh… Didn’t know you’d turn into such a proper young lady. Come in,” Shuu said, his tone more confident than she remembered.
(He’s changed… His voice is deeper. He sounds more… grown-up.)
Ayano hesitated. It wasn’t that she disliked him, but there was something unnerving about how easy he made this feel.
Inside, the warmth of Shuu’s house was comforting.
”Sit wherever. I’ll make you some tea,” he offered.
”Thanks,” Ayano replied, a little surprised at how easily the words came out.
On the table was an enormous sushi platter. She blinked at the size of it—way too much for one person. Shuu explained that the delivery guy wouldn’t deliver for just one, so he had ordered enough for several people.
”Well, I haven’t eaten yet…” she said, staring at the neatly arranged sushi. “If it’s good sushi, I won’t say no.”
”It’s pretty high-end,” Shuu assured her.
She picked up a piece of uni—her favorite—and popped it into her mouth.
”Wow… This is amazing,” she admitted.
They talked casually as they ate, Ayano finding herself more relaxed than she had been in days. She envied how freely Shuu lived without his parents hovering around. Not that she hated her mother… but sometimes, the quiet seemed like something she desperately wanted.
As she sat there, a strange sensation tugged at her again.
Her chest felt tight, and a restless heat pooled in her lower body.
(What…? Since when have I been feeling like this?)
It wasn’t exactly unpleasant—just… distracting. She shifted uncomfortably on the sofa.
(Maybe it’s because my cycle’s close. I haven’t, um… taken care of myself lately. I guess I’ll handle it when I get home.)
Ayano shook the thought away.
She didn’t dislike intimacy. On the contrary, she considered herself someone with a strong desire for it. But she also had rules for herself—lines she wouldn’t easily cross.
Shuu returned from the kitchen with dessert. “Pudding from Yokado. Your mom brought it.”
He ate one in front of her, spooning it slowly.
”Where’s mine?” Ayano asked.
”Didn’t bring it,” he said, smirking.
”You’re stingy,” she muttered.
Without missing a beat, Shuu handed her the half-eaten pudding. She sighed and took it anyway. And then… something unexpected happened.
As she took a bite, a sudden jolt ran through her.
Her body tensed sharply. She dropped the spoon.
Ayano’s breath caught in her throat as she fought to steady herself. Her heart was racing. A tingling warmth spread through her body, her skin prickling as if she’d just been splashed with ice water—except it wasn’t cold at all.
(What… what is this?)
For a moment, it felt as if her whole body was burning from the inside out. Her hands trembled as she set the pudding down, struggling to stay composed.
”Ayano?”
Shuu’s voice sounded distant, like an echo.
”I… I need to use the bathroom,” she blurted and hurried down the hall.
Inside the bathroom, she shut the door and leaned against it, breathing hard.
Her face was flushed. She stared down at her skirt, feeling dampness she couldn’t ignore.
(What… what happened?)
Her mind reeled.
She peeled her skirt off with shaky hands. Her underwear was damp—too damp.
She felt a pang of embarrassment, but it was soon overpowered by the odd sensation lingering between her thighs. Her body still felt hypersensitive, as if waiting for something to happen.
And then, she saw it.
Her clitoris was swollen—more than she’d ever seen before.
It pulsed with every heartbeat, as if begging for attention. Below, her folds quivered subtly, betraying the desire she usually kept carefully in check.
(If I touch it now…)
She clenched her fists at her sides, fighting the urge.
It wasn’t the time. She was still in Shuu’s house.
But the temptation was nearly overwhelming.
Then came the knock.
”Ayano, are you okay?”
Shuu’s voice brought her back to reality.
”Y-yeah. Just a bit of a stomach ache,” she answered quickly.
She hurried to clean herself up as best she could, wiping the dampness away with toilet paper. It wasn’t enough, but it would have to do for now. She pulled her clothes back into place and left the bathroom, praying Shuu wouldn’t notice anything unusual.
”I’m heading home,” she said, grabbing her coat. “Thanks for dinner.”
Shuu nodded. “Anytime.”
She stepped outside. The cold air hit her skin, clearing her head slightly. But Ayano knew the feeling hadn’t gone away entirely. As she walked home, she realized something had changed.
Something inside her had awakened, and it wouldn’t be easy to ignore.
