Volume 8 Chapter 21 Unstoppable Poison
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Bat-like wings sliced through the air.
Long golden hair and a black cloak trailed behind.
The intruder retracted her briefly glimpsed wings into her cloak, wearing a sly grin as she stepped forward.
”…Huh? Huh-huh? I thought I saw the cutest girl in human history, but Kis-Kis?! “
”Gross.”
The woman in the black cloak had arrived suddenly.
Facing Viola, Kispe frowned.
Apparently, this girl could make faces too.
The ever-smiling Kispe now showed what felt like her first genuine emotion.
”What are you doing here?”
”Heh heh heh. Of course, I came to kidnap Hero’s boyfriend. Work, work! Kis-Kis has a tough time too, so VioVio came to help, to make things a bit easier. After all, we’re—friends! Right?”
”Could you leave? You’re annoying, and in the way.”
”Guh?!”
Kispe shot a sideways glare.
Disinterest. Exasperation. Contempt. Pity.
The mix of negative emotions mirrored Suzette’s expression toward Klock when he flirted.
”Your outfit is as lame as ever, but walking beside someone in public is embarrassing. Why not stop wearing that outside the castle? I suppose it might highlight my cuteness, but that’s unnecessary. Ms. Viola, can you find no other purpose for your existence?”
”K-Kis-Kis…? Your tsun-tsun charm is usually cute, but today your attacks feel lethal. VioVio is practically on the verge of death from a single blow.”
Of all people, Viola…
This was bad.
A new, top-tier threat had appeared.
Viola’s arrival instantly tightened the tension in the room.
Klock, Meina, and Suzette instinctively grouped together, backs almost touching.
The two already seemed to understand the intruder without needing an introduction.
Meina bristled, ready for battle. Just facing this cute cat-girl caused her fur to rise, a testament to her vampire instincts.
Suzette, while mindful of the rear, kept her focus on Kispe.
Klock and the others were effectively caught in the middle.
A battle breaking out now would be disastrous.
Kispe’s combat abilities were unknown, but Viola was undeniably a threat.
”Sir Klock. That annoying woman is the fifth seat of the Council of the United Kingdoms, the vampire Ms. Viola. Among the council, she’s notoriously disliked. Girls like her, hitting on me for fun, are nothing but impure beings.”
”Kis-Kis? Why say that? There are better ways to introduce me, right?”
”If it’s acceptable, I recommend beheading her here. Display the head outside town, corrupt the body fully, and then burn it. Problem solved.”
”Uh… scary. Are you serious? Isn’t that… extreme? Kis-Kis, did I do something to anger you?”
Kispe proposed a gruesome punishment for a so-called friend.
The teasing provocations from before were gone. Her venomous words now struck with frightening intensity.
She claimed all her words were poisonous, seemingly capable of every kind of venom.
The two clearly did not have a friendly relationship.
”Hey, Kis-Kis!! You can’t stay defenseless here. You need to evacuate, now!!”
”…Yes? What do you mean?”
”Old man sent Monsters soldiers this way. They’re nearly at the edge of town. You need to flee before you’re surrounded!!”
”…Ah. I see.”
Kispe’s response was flat.
Perhaps unsettled by the succubus princess’s monotone, Viola flustered, struggling to find the right words.
Monsters soldiers, huh.
They had clearly been preparing an incursion.
Just as expected, this was bad.
They weren’t ready to repel an attack, and now two enemy leaders were inside the town. What were they supposed to do?
Klock thought of the most reliable ally in the world: his beloved.
Viola’s appearance might trigger Cianie’s detection. With her, even vampires would have nothing to fear.
Yet one uneasy thought lingered.
Why had Viola arrived now?
”They’re probably guiding the upcoming riots. Soon, troublemakers will appear in the streets. If cute Kis-Kis gets caught up and hurt, that would be bad. VioVio could carry you out—”
”That’s unnecessary. Anyone hiding in the town has already been dealt with by our people. Coup attempts and disturbances are preemptively stopped.”
”…Eh? Why…?”
Viola blinked at Kispe’s answer.
Klock frowned as he processed her words a moment later.
”Why, you ask? The vanguard is our domain, the Succubus. That was decided in the council. Demonkin may not interfere without our permission. Anyone meddling with our plans can hardly complain if dealt with.”
”Whoa,” Viola raised her hands.
In short, Kispe actively eliminated Demonkin spies.
Klock recalled the thieves’ hideout.
Klock recalled the thieves’ hideout.
Thieves lurking in the old town, possibly Demonkin spies.
All were dead when discovered, with a lone succubus present.
Kispe hadn’t interfered when Klock fought the demons.
Indeed, she seemed determined to remove Demonkin, even if they were part of the same Demon Lord’s Army.
”Ms. Bandanzine’s schemes are transparent. She’s laying groundwork to claim credit after the war while plotting against us behind the scenes. Not only Basselow, but everywhere, Demonkin have been manipulated. She wants it to appear we can’t act without their help.”
Bandanzine. Klock had heard the name.
Right-hand of Demon Lord Dainheorl, effectively second-in-command of the Demon Lord’s Army.
Second seat in the council, one of the Four Heavenly Kings.
A figure on par with the other high-ranking officer, former boss to Suzette.
”But won’t she get mad at such blatant sabotage?”
”I don’t know. The demons died outside our control. She failed the mission. That’s all.”
Did they realize they were speaking openly in front of the enemy?
From their conversation, it was clear the two despised each other.
They were divided internally. Perhaps they didn’t even consider themselves part of the same group, targeting each other by race.
Would humans see this as good news?
Maybe not entirely.
They were two sides of the same coin.
Humans constantly quarrel with neighbors. Even if a nation unites the world, internal conflict follows. Humans fight within organizations, between races, among colleagues, friends, even family. Conflict is inevitable.
Demons and humans alike quarrel even during wartime.
This was reality. Allies sabotaging each other during war; humans fighting over governance in wartime.
”Whether a warrior or a member of the council, any action lacking courtesy toward other races deserves criticism.”
”Well, that’s true enough.”
”Yes, precisely, Ms. Viola.”
”…Huh?”
Her voice was unexpectedly light, tilting her head as her blonde hair swayed.
”You are no different. I have entrusted my life’s fortune to this man. Right now, I am only thinking about being alone with him. I have no time to entertain you. This is a man-and-girl moment. Please, leave.”
”Ah… oh. …I see, that’s how it is?”
Viola’s expression shifted subtly, as if she had sensed something. Her gaze toward Klock carried a faint note of pity.
”Therefore, Ms. Viola, I wish to be alone with him. Since you’re here, could you keep company with those demon and the cat girl?”
”Ah, okay, okay. Got it. If that’s the case, I guess I’ll help. …Demon? And Beastkin? Seriously?”
”――Suzette!!”
Battle was inevitable.
Even as Klock braced himself, Viola’s movements were blindingly fast.
At Kispe’s request, she vanished from sight in an instant.
Her motion recalled a real bat—erratic yet swift flight—recreated by a human body.
Wind and slicing air sounds indicated she had ascended into the sky.
But she was too fast. Even looking up, she was gone.
Blending into the night, she vanished in a heartbeat.
”There!!”
Yet Beastkin vision far surpasses humans, including Klock’s.
Meina’s eyes tracked Viola’s movement.
She leapt onto a building.
A light flared briefly in the air.
”Sir Klock, hide behind the building!”
”Damn, right… she has the Cursed Eye!”
Suzette dashed off, ignoring Meina’s Fire Style.
It was clear defeating Viola alone was nearly impossible.
To confront her, Cianie’s presence was essential.
The correct strategy was to delay combat, buying time for Hero’s arrival.
”――Sir Klock, those others appear busy. Let us handle this conversation ourselves.”
It wasn’t that he had forgotten.
Viola’s movement had simply drawn all his attention.
A soft embrace wrapped around Klock.
A faintly sweet scent.
The softness of a girl, entirely inappropriate for the brutal situation.
Klock froze, unable to move.
Why, he didn’t know. His body seemed to accept the fragile hold from behind naturally.
”Sir Klock, despite my eyes, when Kispe expends her power, you return to normal. Her original appearance would merit the title of a beauty.”
”…Huh? What are you saying?”
Still clinging like a lover from behind, Kispe spoke softly.
Other sounds felt distant. The battle Meina and the others were fighting seemed to happen elsewhere, like a stranger’s skirmish.
Kispe and Viola were supposedly among the three great beauties of the Demon Continent.
Kispe’s appearance certainly matched that, but Viola… both in personality and her abnormal eyes, didn’t impress the same way.
She resembled more a free-spirited village girl.
”I mean Kispe’s feminine charm.
Originally, I was human.
I was kidnapped by vampires. After four years of confinement, a vampire noble transformed her. That is who she is.”
Originally human.
Klock had known vampires could turn humans into their kind, but he never imagined Viola herself was one.
”Kispe was transformed by a male noble. Kidnapped from her peaceful homeland as a sex slave, she was forcibly modified. She could not return to her former self. Soon after, she was chosen by the Moon Court as an apostle and killed the vampire noble.”
”…So what? You want me to pity you?”
”No. Not at all. Sir Klock, you mentioned enjoying acting irresponsibly toward unfamiliar girls, didn’t you?”
Her form was hidden behind him, but he could sense her smile.
”A lesbian-leaning girl, a sex slave, a bratty young woman with attitude toward men. Sir Klock, don’t you want to experience Ms. Viola intimately? To defeat her and have your way once she’s helpless? Isn’t the conquered girl the most pleasurable of all?”
She spoke with words far too vulgar for her innocent appearance.
Viola might have been a friend, but perhaps that was irrelevant.
Or maybe that’s simply what a succubus is.
”Let us hunt her. Capture her, throw her to the ground, tear off her finery, mess up her carefully tended hair. Satisfy your predatory instincts on her. Defeat the conceited vampire, remind her, even as a vampire she is ultimately just a female vessel. No matter her powers or strength, a female’s role is a receptacle.”
Her choice of words was deliberate, lascivious.
Not demeaning a friend’s body, nor childish mischief.
The act of speaking such words had purpose.
Because Klock could barely even speak.
It was a form of seduction, a mental invasion.
Using Viola to stimulate imagination, she extended her charm.
”In the end, she is a feathered receptacle suitable for a man’s pleasure. Teach her body its proper place. No pretending to be noble. Open your legs, obey—so I command.”
Her slender fingers traced Klock’s body.
Kispe’s playful touch crawled over his clothing, reaching the mound beneath.
”Sir Klock… it’s growing…♡”
Her fingers teased through the fabric, smiling mischievously, eyes upturned, provocatively poking.
”Oh my, exposing such a sight of a gentleman in public… what a disgrace for a female. However… Sir Klock, the receptacle you seek—Ms. Viola—is a bit wild and unruly. Capturing her is beyond a mere demon and a cute cat girl.”
Her words reminded him—they were in the middle of a battle.
Buildings were being destroyed before his eyes.
Fires ignited, lights launched skyward—something was happening.
Klock had already lost all control over his body.
Eyes vacant, legs frozen.
The Cursed Eye was irrelevant.
The critical mistake had been letting her touch him from behind.
Kispe could charm through every action, every word, gaze, and touch.
Klock had absorbed all of her provocations.
”The master’s desire is ready, yet no girls prepared? What a shame. Perhaps they are unfit to be by Sir Klock’s side♡”
Kispe moved to Klock’s front.
Her already beautiful face now seemed even cuter.
Too cute. Adorable beyond measure.
This was what it meant to be charmed.
”Let us welcome Sir Klock to the Crimson Spire. The invitations have already been sent. On their behalf, I shall serve you♡”
So that had been the goal.
His muddled thoughts finally absorbed her darker intentions.
Everything until now had been a setup to confuse, to drive him mad, to bring Klock home.
The objective had been clear from the start.
The Demon Lord’s Army had been acting solely to counter Hero.
From the beginning, she intended to control Hero’s allies.
He had known it, yet couldn’t escape.
”From now on, your Kispe will attend to Sir Klock. There will be no limit to the girls at your side; my comrades will tirelessly serve your desires. Even the effort of thinking shall be handled by us. The rest of your life is simply to enjoy with us. And of course, I, Kispe, shall become your wife♡ I will even speak to your former lover, Ms. Anna, to ensure harmony…”
Her words were beyond comprehension.
All he could do was surrender himself completely to the girl before him.
”Now, Sir Klock, let us begin. Let us dream a joyful dream.
――Forever.”
”――Then, please take Ms. Viola from here.”
The girl held the man’s hand.
Smiling gently, she anticipated a reunion with her lover.
* * *
”Alrighty~! Do your best~. And you, little cat. Just because you’re cute doesn’t mean I’ll go easy. Oh, and don’t expect Hero’s reinforcements. That many monsters? He won’t come for a while. I timed this perfectly!”
”Ha… ha…”
”This is bad.”
Behind collapsed buildings, the cat girl and the demon maid hid.
Though shielded from the vampire’s Cursed Eye, their movements were restricted.
Whenever the vampire moved, they would hide immediately.
By avoiding the Cursed Eye, they delayed her advance successfully. But turning the tide was nearly impossible.
Viola’s strength wasn’t just her Cursed Eye.
Pure physical power, flight speed, and the uncanny ability to pinpoint the two in darkness—she excelled in every aspect.
To reach Klock, they would have to show their backs to Viola.
It was impossible.
They’d be shredded before arriving.
”――Ms. Meina, I’ll run. Can you use your full Water Technique to cover this area?”
”Ugh… I’m close to my limit. It might not be as powerful, but I can manage once…!!”
”Overusing your magic, I see. Your reserves are nearly gone.”
Meina had been overextending spells to counter the high-speed enemy.
She kept launching flames into the air, desperate to track her.
”…If Meina runs—”
”Stop. You’ll only die in vain.”
”Fuh-fuh! Having trouble, ladies?
Alright, alright, if you run, I might just let you go~”
A voice called from behind debris.
Suzette focused her magic with a grimace.
It was likely futile, but there were no other options.
”The demon girl’s beautiful, and the cat’s ridiculously sly. Killing them? Out of the question. I suggest you run.”
The two ignored the vampire’s words.
Holding their breath, they focused on the approaching sound.
Filled with unmistakable murderous intent, the cat girl and demon readied themselves.
”…Fine then. I suppose we’ll play a little longer.”
Not a final ultimatum, it seemed.
Perhaps she intended to prolong the fight just enough to force surrender.
Whether to see kindness in that was not the moment to consider.
Meina and Suzette appeared simultaneously.
Flames in their hands, likely to obscure Viola’s vision even slightly.
Viola bared her teeth in a grin.
Her abnormal eyes locked on the demon and Beastkin.
”Hmph. No need to play, Viola. You’re done here.”
The vampire’s body twisted unnaturally.
A trident struck her neck from the side.
Blown back by a high-speed surprise attack, she collided with a stone house.
Water pressure along the spear’s trajectory destroyed the surrounding area.
The collapsing stones crushed Viola beneath them.
”――――You are—”
Meina’s shocked voice rang out.
Attempting to take the man, she widened her eyes at the interloper.
Waist. Heels. Ears.
Fins so vivid no human could possess them.
Her orange hair flowing, she cried out—like magic.
”Rise, Humans!! Do not be swayed by the words of succubi!!”
The song echoed in Klock’s mind.
In an instant, his eyes widened, and he instinctively distanced himself from Kispe.
